7950X efficiency lower down the power limits is insane. Awesome to see what can be done if you need to cram everything into a tiny case and can only use a lot profile cooler. Still faster than pretty much everything out there! Interesting 105W vs 170W too - I guess as you say the lower power means lower temps which in this case means higher boosting albeit still slower than with better cooling. But if I wanted better cooling, I would own a bigger case and that defeats the point!

Good review, thanks for sharing. I am thinking 7950x + nr200 + c14s and was concerned about thermal throttling. Its a shame that the am5 mobos all have (noisy) chipset fans. Would defeat the purpose of having a quiet system

Looks like you had more space for a bigger cooler, maybe could have handled 105W ECO mode. The ID-COOLING IS-55 is popular for SFF builds and would still have 10mm clearance

I have two builds using the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4. One is a 5700X and the other a 5600X. I run the cpu's at stock. I upgraded the fans. Those tiny coolers weigh a ton and are surprisingly good with these cpu's.

what did you upgrade the fans to?

Hi very informative video!! Can I ask you if you had to choose thr 7900x and the non x version for a formdt1 v2 case with a low profile air cooler which one would you choose? Running the 7900 at stock or the 7900x at eco? Because as far as I can tell basically it's the same thing. Thanks in advance

I'm guessing that this is good news for using the 65w 7900 no-x with a low profile air cooled ITX.

Specifically with cooler limitations in this kind of scenario both 65w and 105w modes have big benefits compared to stock. Definitely worth doing. It’s still getting much higher scores at 105W TDP than the 7900X which is all that matters really!

so potentially you could put this cpu in a K39 case and combine with a Alpenfohn Black Ridge when they bring out a AM5 version combine with single fan gpu and you'll have a portable beast of a rig am i wrong you could even get it in a velka 3 with this cooler and have better performance then the 5950 x i would say that is worth it

Yep! This in eco mode or even a 7900 65W would be great for that

So say you get a smaller cooler because you plan on running at 65w or 105w, will you fry things before you have the chance to change the power settings...will it still try to run at 95?
@CrazyTechLab
@CrazyTechLab Ай бұрын
Nope, it will only run as hot as it's allowed to and it will only run at higher temperatures if you put it under heavy loads. If the higher power limit is set to start with and the CPU gets too hot, it will simply throttle itself to cool down.

@@CrazyTechLab thought so but ya never know, I am torn between a 65w 12 core 7900 & the 7950 @ 605 or 105w in an am5 b650 board, Dont really have the space for a 3 fan AIO, so either 240 or 280 just, or 3 fan aircooler...but after reading all of the chips prefer to be close to 95, I think I might aswell get the 7950

That's interesting - I was planning to try out 65w and 95w limits on my 5950x with the Noctua NH-L9a and Alpenfohn Blackridge in a SFF box next week

Was a fun test tbh! Definitely worth doing if you're constrained by your cooler - probably using a very small case that needs something low profile and has no room for an AIO. The 7950X still beats the 12900K and 5950X even at 65W where the L9a kept it at 75'C! That was crazy! 105W offered better than stock performance thanks to slightly higher boosting. Definitely fun to play with, especially if you've already played with undervolting or curve optimiser

@@CrazyTechLab thanks very much appreciated. in the Total system power consumption graph what cpu comes near the 7900 non x model ? i'm interested in seeing the 7950X in 65W eco vs 7900 stock. if equal or tiny bit more more cores means more vm's running slower is no problem. When i need speed for a build i can always ramp up..

These CPUs should be bigger (more surface area), so we can have more efficient cooling with air coolers. I dont want to switch to watercooling...
@CrazyTechLab

It’s what they sacrificed for cooler socket compatibility. In many ways I think it was the best call because socket AM5 is already expensive with a need for DDR5 and high motherboard pricing. If you needed to buy a new cooler as well that would have put even more people off. But yes, a small part of me does wish it went with a bigger, easier to cool CPU.

you have an obsession with temperatures ? you never had an intel ... my intel HP laptop sits throttling at 105 degrees at any hard work for 6 years (changing paste every 2 years)

In the Ryzen G editions you can find it on the Bios. You can switch to 35W mode (GE) or stay 65W mode (G) You gotta deep dive on consumer or commercial modes on the CPU. Depending on your bios (Using Strix X570-I}
