A note on OVERCLOCKING: It takes a lot of effort to dial in the overclocking on high end cards nowadays. You have to undervolt the GPU to stretch out the efficiency curve while slowly bring up the Minimum AND Maximum clocks on AMD GPUs, with trial and error. I had like 2-3% over on my RX 6800 before I started using undervolting, putting in the time and was able eventually to get 8%-11% consistently. I think this is why we are getting different reports on the ASUS TUF 7900XTX OC reviews. Techpowerup seemed to emphasize the undervolt as a necessary part of the overclocking potential, therefore they had good results.

Agreed. GN did a good video on OC'ing RDNA2 a while ago. I used their settings as a starting point for my XFX Merc Black 6900XT, and I get sustained 2560mhz in-game and a nice performance bump. With AMD cards, you have to find the sweet spot for min max clocks, they can't be far apart, only a few hundred megahertz, and leave the VRAM alone and undervolt.
@marine6680 Жыл бұрын
RDNA cards actually gain performance from undervolting. Increase power limit, bump up the gpu and memory clocks a bit, then start lowering the voltage. The card will start to maintain its boost frequencies for longer, as it isn’t bumping against the power limit as much. Apparently people are seeing 10%+ gains of actual in game FPS. Depending on the specific game of course. Benchmarks don’t show much of an improvement at all though.

I just ordered an MSI 4080 after way too much struggle and back and forth. It largely game down to availability. Going up to a 4090 would have also required a new PSU, so beyond being impossible to find, the cost difference was a bit more for me than most. Anybody who knows a lot about AMD GPU's. do the work capabilities of AMD cards compare well with the Nvidia equivalent? Even without the CUDA cores in AMD, does AMD still work well in a non-gaming environment. Also, a lot of games that I play support DLSS but not FSR. Can playing games without FSR on a 7900xtx compare to playing games on an Nvidia card with DLSS on? Thanks!

hi! i'm actually on the fence between these two. i'll be using them for work (architectural renderings and other 3d stuff), and of course gaming. is the 4080 still better despite having less vram? also, if ever i'm on a budget, will the 4070ti be worth it?

The 4070 Ti will never be worth it as long as the RX 6950 XT is still on the market.

If you just play games, nothing else, and if you just want speed without the best visual effects, and if you are planning to buy another graphics card in two to three years the 7900 might save you a few dollars. If you want to use your computer for productivity and creative purposes, if you want to enjoy the most immersive atmosphere (raytracing and DLSS), if you do not want to have to upgrade later because more and more titles come out with raytracing (some possibly required) then you might want to shell out a few more dollars/pounds now.
@carrionwithout_me Жыл бұрын
And according to the benchmarks: the 7900 xt is the GOLD STANDARD for mid tier set ups right now. You're not spending over $1k USD on a graphics card and most monitors @ 4k 144hz do not need over 150 frames. The price per frame compared to the RDNA 2 cards is only £.50 more and that's a steal in this current market. Most non competitive, non content creators should jump on that card if they have the money. Your 12400f will play those games around those fps no problem too!

I really do like these reviews on graphics cards because I'm pretty close to pulling all things together to start my build. My question is, have you ever considered getting an Nvidia card directly from Nvidia? They actually seem to have the best price; especially when it comes to the 3090ti and 4080.

Apparently they are adding their own version of frame generation in a few months.. now will it be as good as dlss 3? Most likely not.. and fsr2 is almost as good as dlss 2 so i mean ur paying less for almost the same which isent necessarily bad.. but if u want to spend $1200+ for the 4080/4090 i respect the power u got but i honestly think that these companies should learn that higher gpu prices should not stand. I mean whenever i finish college and get a decently good job (cyber security) i will prob drop $4000-$5000 on a build, but that might be around when the RTX5000 series/RTX6000 series coming out

@lawyerlawyer1215 Жыл бұрын
I think you made the smarter choice . Both cards are extremely overpriced. The 4080 jumped from the 699$ for the 3080 to 1200$ And the 7900xtx , considering it is in the same tier as the 4080 , with pretty much the same performance, it is really a 7800xt Wich was 640$ for the 6800xt. So it’s also very overpriced. Let’s be honest , at 1000$ you are past the price-performance territory. You are in the “I want the best” territory. And personally, considering how many raytraced games are coming , paying 1000 wich in reality will be around 1200$ because msrp is nowhere to be seen . And having to see your card get wrecked when activating Raytracing. Is annoying As for dlss3 AMD hasn’t said anything but that fsr should come next year. No date , no info. That’s bullshit They also said that the 7900xtx was going to be from 50% to 70% faster than the 6950xt And it ended up being like 35% So … so much for blindly believing them then…

An extra 100 pounds for a much better stable card overall..much better Ray tracing (nice to have) can use both DLSS & FSR..some games don't have both options (best of both worlds) frame generation is really good for single player games too The worst thing for AMD is drivers the vega 56 and 5700 xt I had where solid performing cards but the drivers where absolutely awful..take too long to mention all the issues I encountered. @adrastoso9727 Жыл бұрын
As everyone is saying, it comes down to ray tracing for platform gamers like myself; if your multiplayer AMD is the best option because you will be running games at 1440 to get over 120fps that you will want, and raytracing is not a good option. For platform games, there really are only a handful of games that have it, but that is increasing with games like Witcher 3 that are coming out soon. AMD can pull it off, but not like the 4080 and the 4090 beast which sells for no less that $2,000 from what I’ve seen! Given how this card will not be beat for at least a year, I’m Thinking the price will not go down let alone below MSRP making this card not worth the cost for anyone who doesn’t have over 2,000 to shell out for a GPU. Right now xfx is selling the 7090xt for $899, which is surprising for a new GPU considering everything else is selling a good $200 over msrp! Problem is I still cannot find the 7900xtx right now, so I am wondering if that card will come down to its msrp of $999, and if so that would make buying the 7900xt a bad buy; but if it doesn’t, then the 7900xt could be a great option for the lowest cost new high end GPU! The 4080 I do think will drop down from 1,400 to the MSRP of 1,200, but will it drop lower……

Purely for gaming, it's largely moot. At this moment, if you've got an AM4 motherboard, get the 5800X3D and drop it in. If not? Get the better bargain. 13th gen Intel outperforms Zen4 in pure multithreaded workloads. Downside is that's the end of the line for the Intel socket. Next year the X3D versions of Zen4 will arrive, which will (again, for gaming) likely stomp all over 13th gen. If you can wait three-six months? Probably worth doing.

Furthermore, unless budget wise, I'd never buy the 4070/4070ti due to very poor vram space for the price.
