Had this one for a really long time. Upgraded it with a passive cooler, so it was dead silent. Now it lives it final days in a budget DOTA2 machine and runs it on 1080p high with stable 80-90 fps. It is a great card, the 1gb vram, but especially the dropped driver support cut its life short. Still got nearly 10 years of life out of it. Great deal!

I have a XFX 5770 1GB on an older Lynnfield i7 875k and it works beautifully after 10 years ( i bought it brand new in 2010 ) its really a shame that driver support has dropped so early. it runs at max temp of 75c with 100% utilization and it is rock solid stable... I used it as my main card until 2016, the lack of driver support and low VRAM made me buy a 1060 6GB witch i use currently on a Ryzen 3600. Great content... you should explore in the future the Lynnfield CPU's since they still have all the instructions necessary to run any modern application and are fairly cheap. A great motherboard witch my 875k runs are the DP55KG form Intel that has UEFI support witch is amazing coming form a board form 2009... the only bug with windows 10 are suspend and hibernate mode that cause windows to crash almost the moment you wake the machine after a sleep or hibernate state... but since i run a SSD in that PC there is no need to have sleep and hiberante on... so i disabled those options in the power options menu and everything runs rock solid. Best Regards, Will

I've used this one for 6 years, until 2017. It was completely adequate for playing games at lower graphical settings at resolutions up to 1080p, also it's pretty good for productivity - my XFX variant has 5 display outputs in total. Newer games really starve for that VRAM though and the 1GB here isn't enough at times - note that there's a rather rare 2GB HD6870 variant out there, pretty sure it's a dual fan XFX card. If you can find one for cheap you should bench it because the results could be quite different.

I've had a blower style HD 6870 by Asus since 2011 until it inadvertently cooked itself in 2016. I think I've got a good mileage out of it, several thousands of hours of gameplay, in fact. The 1 GB VRAM and dropped driver support was definitely its biggest disadvantage.

I spent the morning cleaning my HTPC and while I was at ti, I pulled out my HIS HD6670 1GB DDR5 and replaced it with my Sapphire R7 360 2GB DDR5. The box hadn't been opened in a couple of years and surprisingly wasn't very dusty, let alons dirty or bug infested. I didn't even need to replace any of the thermal paste! after the light cleaning and vacuuming required was doen I threw a video merge and resize at it and temps were very good, about 50C under load (about 80%)on the Athlon II X4 640. I have never had any issues with the HD6670 despite what others have written about it. It simly ran what older games I had and never had any hardware issues with video playback. the reason I retired it today was because the box was open and the R7 360 was wining for the fjords. BTW FWIW I really like the R7 as well.

"Only 1GB of vram" 1GB of GDDR5 with a 256bit bus was killer compared to older GPU's that competed in its price range. Less than 3 years before the $240 HD6870 launched, the very popular GeForce 8800 GT launched with 256MB of GDDR3 for $230. The HD6870 had quadruple the memory buffer and way more than double the memory bandwidth. This was a very powerful mid range GPU in its day. Sure it was weaker than the HD5870 but that GPU was often more than $400 because of 40nm manufacturing problems and demand.
