Growing up Middle Eastern post-9/11, this broke me. I was never emotionally or told to show emotion due to my background but this got to me. I had to hide what I was, what my parents brought me up to be because THAT'S ALL THEY THEY KNEW BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE. Growing up in a 98% White neighborhood between 99'-17 was hurtful.
