Surprising to see Mearsheimer talking to these anti American people that have been doing nothing but helping the Chinese.

Mersheimre flips back and forth from astute analysis and regugitated propaganda. "the west thought that China as it became wealthy would become a liberal democracy, and there would be no conflict", But Mersheimer constantly reminds us of the Monroe Doctrine. It was aimed at keeping European liberal democracies from doning anything substantive in the western hemisphere. The world Hegemon doesn't want a peer competitor whether it is or is not a liberal democracy. We could use our military power to spread democracy around the world. This was 90% propaganda. We sponsored multiple military coups that toppled democracies (Iran 1953, Chile 1979 etc) for the benefit of a small number of US corporations. Later as in Afghanistan we conquered then tried to install puppet quasi-democracies. We figured out how to manipulate elections so our puppets won the elections. But they would be an obedient puppet only if they were weak. Afghanistan is a prime example of how weak these so called democracies were. Mersheimer concentrates entirely on China. He even says going after Ukraine was a mistake because it drove Russia into the hands of China. But the ticking time bomb is Iran. Iran after 4 years of max sanctions, has learned to live with sanctions. It's almost certain that Iran will reach crisis status before Ukrain or Taiwan. What happens with Iran will shape the future of great power competition.
