My husband and I two very well travelled Aussies just spent 4 months driving around the US and it’s in our top 3 countries we have travelled - yes there are a lot of issues but the friendliness of the people, the amazing natural beauty, National Parks and vibrant cities is something to be extremely proud off - we could spend another 4 months and still not see everything your country has to offer - loved this video as we went to all the places you visited

I'm from NZ (though currently living in California) and 100% agree. The US is not at all what it is portrayed as in the media, I absolutely love travelling here.

+1 on that. Last trip from Oz to the US was a month with a mate driving across and up and down (and up again) it looking at aircraft and space museums, plus Monument Valley (amazing). People are nice, it's just that bad news sells more than good news, unfortunately. The Tucson to Grand Canyon leg via Sedona though, a couple of weird ones there. Kidding!!! One of my kids now lives (for work) in San Francisco and has made some good friends. The only thing I worry about is her security, but I'd have similar worries in parts of Sydney Au.

With this sort of road trip it's ideal for your experiences along the way, to catch as many of the out of the way places. Your fuel prices are so low compared to where I am in Oz, just up the road the servo is $209.9 per litre. Take care both of you and travel safe ❤

Lol at the first road, same thing happened to me in New Mexico - Google seemed to think what turned out to be a dirt road was a major highway. I mean maybe it was, but I wasn't expecting that, and I didn't have an SUV or anything, just a small rental car. Absolutely adore Santa Fe, the street with all the art galleries (Canyon Road I think?) and the downtown area are just gorgeous.

I've had a few trips to the USA and have had many American colleagues and friends over the years. Can't agree more about the general friendliness of people (apart from TSA), especially when you leave the large cities and dive deep into the middle. It has issues, but I find some fellow Australians really annoying and embarrassing in the way they constantly pillory the USA. I know one couple in particular who criticise the USA for a number of real issues, but then endlessly glorify and praise their favourite country, Brazil, which (on exactly the same issues) has a far worse record. Social media is partly to blame. I don't think many really understand that if you click on 'bad news' stories (true or false in content), the algorithm will feed you more and more, and eventually that's virtually the only thing it supplies to you.

The USA has its problems but when you travel any country and meet the people it’s never as bad as it seems, social media has a lot to answer for as well as the politicians especially the current crop in the USA. The hate that’s pushed by many destroys a country internationally and when its own people don’t want to help each other that’s where problems start and end.
