The poor bore the brunt of the subprime and credit crisis in 2008. Today, it's the middle class's turn. The impoverishment of the American middle class is stark. In a country that has embraced liberalism as a creed, there is no safety net to speak of. For those who lose their jobs, the consequences are immediate and devastating.
Larry Dodson, 52 years old, used to lead a major customer service department. But two years ago, he lost his job and his home. Today, he lives in a motel room with his wife and two children, making just $820 a month by hosting tourists at Disney World. After paying the motel fees, he's left with only $70 for food and other necessities.
Terry was a sales director and enjoyed a comfortable life until he was laid off. He ended up moving from one motel to another in his car and was eventually deemed "economically unfit" to care for his six children. The three oldest were placed in foster care. Currently, there are 1,800 children growing up in motels around Disney World. They constantly change schools because their parents are forced to find cheaper housing.

At the very beginning of Covid both my wife and I lost our jobs after working at the same place for 23 years. No severance pay ... company declared bankruptcy and that was that. Within a month I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and needed surgery and treatment. No more work benefits so all our years of savings went into my treatment and paying our mortgage. 3 years later I sold our house and moved 1200 miles away and bought a small 2 bedroom bungalow. If wasn't for our savings and that our mortgage was paid off in 2021 we would be in the same situation. It is terrifying when you almost lose everything you worked so hard for.

@@lumailisa its not spot on at all. Leftist politicians and people like stupid George carlin -- who was a millionaire himself by the way -- always, always confuse causation and correlation. in the USA (per the 2018 largest study of American millionaires for the book "everyday millionaire") 90% of millionaires are self made. another 5% received some inheritance, but not enough to make them a millionaire. so only 5% of actual total millionaires are from inheritance as a single source. also, in america the wealthy pay all the taxes. another lie of the left is that the wealthy dont pay fair shares of taxes. 25% of the wealthiest earners in the USA pay 85% of the total federal tax bill. Facts matter. Democrats never use facts or truth when peddling tax increases.

In March 2024, an Atlanta news station did an investigation into who was buying up all the houses in the area. They found 3 companies own 19,000 homes. None of the houses are for sale, all are for rent only. There is no law in Georgia that prevents this from happening. Home rental prices in the Atlanta area are going up. The American dream of owning a home is over. Corporations in California and New York are doing the same thing. The rich are getting richer and creating more low income people.

Things are worse now and getting even worse.. working for a mortgage bank I talk to tons of people every day who are behind in payments, in foreclosure, applying for loan modifications to keep their homes, etc... Sometimes I tell them a secret - if and when possible buy a small piece of land off grid in a country where tiny houses are allowed because it's getting worse... And the second secret, grow your own food.... But I think if my employer heard too much of that I'd get in trouble and be advised not to say such things..

@Truthistrash
@Truthistrash 3 ай бұрын
@@SiberiaDreams not sure who your reply is for however if it's directed at me you are grossly incorrect and clearly have no clue about off grid life, housing, how many options there are on how to get things done.... Yes if you buy a tiny house upfront that can be expensive. Having said that it's common to start in an old RV, travel trailer, van life van or bus. After that you can learn to build your own tiny house or save money for help in building it or save money to buy one new or used. You can also opt to purchase a tiny house workable shed , these come in many sizes, shapes, price ranges and you can over time build it out into a tiny house. You can build a dustcrete house, an earthship house, a sandbag house, a straw bale house, or a wood house. The options are many... You can again do it over time. When you've completed the set up and building you will own it free and clear, no rent, no mortgage, etc and only have to concern yourself with the property taxes. If you buy the property wisely the property taxes will be low .... Etc.. So no it's not insanely expensive to go off grid though of course it can be if you just run to a tiny house manufacturer and buy a luxury model tiny home first thing... Needless to say even if you do that, as long as you can pay it off quickly, you will never throw money down the toilet again forever paying mortgage or rent - every month for average 30 years on mortgage regardless of whether your income stops or not. If income reduces or stops you can't pay that mortgage and you lose that house.. With rent it's endless, the landlord can raise the rent, and if income reduces you get evicted . So pick an option.....
@Truthistrash
@Truthistrash 3 ай бұрын
@@SiberiaDreams btw as an addition: I live my advice. I have my property paid off free and clear. I have my property taxes paid years into the future. I have a class c RV and travel trailer on site both can be lived in. I built two tiny homes on site. I built a four room barn . I have two more tiny homes that should be completed by the end of this coming summer. The property is fully fenced. I have three garden areas and small livestock. If I lost my job tomorrow I could easily live on the property in decent comfort, eat free, run phone and computer via solar set up I got done last summer. Leisurely apply for a new job ... The only thing that would not be leisurely about it would be the payments on some other parcels I'm working on getting paid off -- like the problem with either rent or mortgage that monthly payment is the killer except with traditional mortgage it let's 30 years on average and with rent it'll NEVER ever end.... I was able to even fight for my minor children for years against a millionaire sociopath because I live off grid like this.. Something I couldn't have done on my income at all if I paid rent or mortgage... So please tell me how on earth teaching others how to do it is stupid and setting them up for a life they cannot afford. It's absolutely not .. People who can't afford mortgage or rent go homeless or throw all their money away on motel rooms. I can pick what spot, home, I want to sleep in any night of the week and I have no payments. It's all paid off except the additional properties I'm paying on for my kids..... In case you're concluding I must be rich, nope. I earn $20 an hour... I did all this between earning $20 an hour for the first year, then a job that paid $13 an hour for two years, and unemployed due to the covid pandemic shutdown.. And also had two jobs , not at the same time, right after the covid shutdown, temporary jobs, that paid only $11 an hour (one job was circle k clerk for a few months and the other was ups warehouse for a few months because other jobs weren't available after the lockdowns,)... That's how rich I was and am to get this done... Also I had no savings, no inheritance, etc . I got zero dollars from the millionaire ex , instead I got to pay $300 an hour for lawyers to fight for my kids. I get no spousal support and no child support income.. Clearly what I did anyone can do.. I also have three heart conditions, autoimmune disease and I didn't know how to build anything when I started...... So again anyone can do it...... I started by paying the property off free and clear fast by making as many extra payments as I could. Knocked that out in about a year. The minimum property payment was like $140 a month. I paid more each month. Then I bought an old motor home for $450. I put the motor home on the property and like instant magic I had a reasonably safe, extremely cozy little house to live in off grid.. Next I did the barn. I worked on the fence, and ended up buying a fifth wheel travel trailer for another living unit...I finished the fence and built the first tiny house by the second summer on the property and I just kept going from there.....

This is absolutely disgusting that our government has allowed this to happen. I would be one of them if it weren't for my daughter letting me live with her and her family. It isn't so much the jobs, it is the cost of living, ie housing, food, gas, utilities. No one can afford a house today and next will be a decent vehicle. Apartments have delusions of grander thinking that they are justified charging mortgage rates for an apartment, no garage, no yard, live on top of each other and pay 1800 for a shitty 1 bdrm. I remember in the 1990's you could buy a brand new home for under 100K in Phx, AZ, 2 bedroom apartments were 550 or less, food and utilities were affordable. It is so sad that young couples making 70K a year cannot buy a home, what happened to starter homes, to the American dream.... it is long gone and nobody seems to care.

@EthanLeviathan-lf2ik unfortunately I have to agree with you on this point but if we understand human history nothing lasts forever even ancient empires like Egypt or the Roman Empire didn’t last forever. The same could be said about the US but this difference now compared to centuries past. Is gun ownership and the millions who own them with ex-military personal too. You could even have active military personnel turn against leadership especially if they change the laws and have the military to act and kill its own citizens claiming it’s to save the country. The one thing that most people don’t seem to grasp about poverty is children. Most impoverished people alway have 2+ kids, usually more. I don’t care if you have a degree, the child factor keeps a person from prosperity, for the most part. I wish more folks would understand this. If you can’t take care of yourself, don’t add kids to the equation.
@katieandnick4113
@katieandnick4113 4 ай бұрын
That’s easy to say, but having children is ALWAYS selfish, no matter how much money you have. Unless you are god(I know many people believe they are god), you cannot control most of what happens in the life of any human you bring into the world. I accept that having children is selfish, and I don’t judge people for doing it. We are not rational creatures; we are emotional ones, particularly when under the type of chronic stress that all modern humans experience. You may believe you wouldn’t have children if you were in the shoes of another person, but if you were them, you’d do exactly what they do.

Even middle class are moments away from losing everything. You work hard, you work overtime you are obligated (nearly forced with threat of losing your job) and at the end the company your work for or company you start up and run are gone. Nothing, Pensions, savings, retirement all mean nothing. Having a plan A , B and C in practice almost never work out. I currently work with a man that was 6 figures a year in a superb home with new lease cars every 2 years and had family vacations twice a year all over the world. Today he is our cleaner on minimum wage in a council house and destitute having tried to save his company and staff when the government flat turned their back on him at the start of covid. It took 10 months to sink him and all he had and was offered a tiny compensation for having worked so hard to build his shop and brand for 33 years and isnt old enough to be government retirement age so has to eat humble pie for another 5 years. He doesnt regret paying his staff and trying to help everyone during covid but admits it cost him everything.

I’m one of the lucky ones but my life still sucks. I’m 45 and have a decent job in tech. But I had to leave a job back in 2008 due to a mental health crisis (something we don’t seem to care about at all in the US), and that permanently ruined my life. I had to go into a ton of credit card debt just to pay for massively expensive health insurance for my family. Today I make more money than I ever thought possible, yet I can just barely make ends meet to feed my family and pay my bills. Rent keeps increasing about 6-8% every year. credit card companies keep rising the interest. Groceries are absurdly expensive and keep increasing. Meanwhile my mental health is deteriorating and forcing me to miss work, to the point where I’m worried I’ll lose my job. When that happens, I’ll be in the next one of these documentaries. Or maybe I’ll just end things. Who knows. This country is shit. I’d leave if I had the means but I don’t.

I am not going to tell you that your feelings do not matter, that would be very uncaring and a horrible thing to say. I will say to you...seek God through His Word and through His son Christ Jesus. He said that He would be with you always, even unto the end of the world. Please start reading the Gospels, start in any order you wish but I recommend starting with the Gospel of St. John. When you read, believe every word is from God our creator, our Father and that every word is true. Trust me, He will fill you with Love and a Strength you never thought was possible for you. He will deliver healing to your spirit and heart and life and His spirit will drive out anything that is encouraging you to "end it". The Lord loves you more that the stars and galaxies in the sky. Why? Because you are His Child, made in His Image. Trust and believe in Him and his word, repent of all things that are not of God and determine in your heart to follow Him daily. Get baptized in the future when you can and be filled with the Holy Spirit my friend. God loves you and so do I. I will keep you in prayer. your brother in Christ, Paul.

This is so sad to watch. The hourly wages in America are disgusting. I’m from Australia, I was paid more than $8 an hour back in the 70’s. This is so unfair on the children. 😢😢😢😢😢

I‘ll never understand why the (working) poor always have lots of kids. If I can barely sustain myself, maybe also struggle mentally or with substance abuse, WHY in the World would I have children to further complicate matters for all? I‘m solid middle class, and I only have one kid, as to provide a solid foundation to a child is about 250,000$ - and that’s not even counting college/university! Love is a great thing, but it doesn’t feed you and it doesn’t provide you education etc. Children growing up with adult worries are in a lot of cases not ideally equipped to be successful individuals. Kids should be able to have a childhood, a puberty in which they revolt and test boundaries, and through that learn the responsibilities of an adult. None of these children shown here has that path ahead of them. It’s just sad! Don’t have kids if you can’t provide for them!

Literally no one is rich enough to stop working and be able to provide for their kids. That's what it would require to have the kind of security you are talking about. The story for most of these families is they were doing fine until an unexpected loss of a job.

@@sakshigupta8603 Yeah, but it’s only going up, when you want to keep a certain standard. Which again widens the gap between rich and poor. Education is the key, but access to it isn’t equal either.
