Lol this documentary didn't explain anything. At least start with the history of semiconductors and then move onto the fall of Japan's semiconductor industry after US start a trade war, then the rise of S Korea and Taiwan's semiconductor industry; and Finally How China became self sufficient in semiconductors after US sanctions. China used to buy about 70% of all semiconductors But now are buying less than 20%, majority of the companies That sold semiconductors were US ones and That the government incentives wouldn't cover the revenue lost hence the big Tech lay off happening right now, US worker's Union would also be in the way of US producing cheap semiconductors which make US unable to compete on global stage. The result is chip war was a irreversible mistake That pushed China into market dominance.

while China has made significant progress, it is not yet self sufficient or globally dominant in semiconductors and while reduced semiconductor demand may play a role, it is not the sole reason for tech layoffs. However, it is too soon to declare this an “irreversible mistake” or to claim that China has achieved market dominance. it is an ongoing geopolitical and economic issue.

We have Intel, and now Samsung and TSMC building plants here. Our R&D that designs the chips combined with more manufacturers will put us at the top. China still has trouble making older gen silicon. The way their economy and society is laid out does not allow for efficient research and development. Even if they take Taiwan, that doesn't mean they will take TSMC expertise with it. i would put my money on the proven horse.

The documentation is misleading. It only stated that Taiwan semiconductor represents 30% of the world total productions. It sounded that Taiwan is so significant to the world. But it failed to mention that Taiwan total GDP was 30% plus of the Mainland's in 1990's. Just in short 30 years, Taiwan only counts 4% of the Mainland China's GDP. It is going to be a less and less significant factor to counter China. Let's put this way: Taiwan does not have s chance, with or without the US, winning a war against China.
@bin.s.s.Ай бұрын
It is well known that we Chinese people do not want to go to war, hot wars or "chip wars", with anyone anywhere. Let's business be business. But if you all push Taiwan, TSMC included, to much forwards, too much that we have to defend our own front door, then everything in Taiwan becomes a good puch bag to break. That's commonplace, is it not.

Just ask Taiwan to completely detact from the mainland which is enjoying the largest surplus than any countries in the world. Moreover, it's just a part of China but governed independently.

1:15 It is not just "the differential in labor costs". It is the quality of labor which the US does not have. Highly skilled labors have to be imported from Taiwan and S Korea have to be imported to help Samsung and TSMC build their semi-conductor factories in the US. The same is true for Canada. Samsung has to import more than 900 highly skilled engineers from S. Korea to help Canada build a EV lithium battery plant in Ontario, Canada. North America has fallen so far behind in technology that they don't even know they are at a few generations behind in the semi-conductor industry. I've seen a podcast where the host interview with a US military officier based in pacific, he is already saying chip is not the main focus when discussing US vs China geopolitics analysis, it is misleading by focusing too small and lose the big picture of two country's politics and interests. This documentary's editting is bad from pure quality by making no point only dumping scattered every single information they have collected online. Some shot are nice and filter is artistic, but it is not a good documentary i would say. It didn't explain anything.

Bro, are you still living in the past? The mid-to-low-end chip market has already been dominated by China. The good news is that the United States still holds the high-end market; the bad news is that China is making a full-scale effort to catch up. The key is the people, not the factory facilities. TSMC can build a factory in Arizona, but the local Americans can't produce as well as the Chinese. So, guess who will win in the future? 🤣 Besides, China never wants to exclude anyone in their trade. If the U.S. does not embargo China, China is more than willing for the U.S. to dominate and earn all the money in this field. Also, I am quite sure that if and when China decides to take over Taiwan, China will guarantee the supply of chips to the world, instead of trying to use it against the world.
