I was 17 in 1963 when this was filmed. I often wonder how many of those teens are still around today. They'd be around my age (76). It was a great time to be alive. However, it was that same year that JFK was assassinated, and the following year the Vietnam War started ramping up. I wish I had a time machine and could go back to 1963 and relive those days of innocence.

October 23Rd 1956 my 11Th Birthday my Daddy gave me the original 45 of this song by The Clovers a group from my Home Town of Washington D.C. And I still have the record today. Oh by the way. I had to miss this one because I had to work that day. Thank you for this video and God Bless.

This song is so romantic and magical! I picture driving at night and seeing googie style signs lit up and active (Holiday Inn, drive-in movies, KFC bucket spinning with neon signage on the side of the building, etc.), calligraphy signage on the front of a building with turquoise painted stucco, vintage Sambo’s and Denny’s, etc.!

Blue velvet...A true fashion fashion statement of days gone by. Fast forward: 2020... aside from maybe the corner of Hollywood and Vine, we'd be hard pressed to find one dressed in blue velvet :---) This was the show that featured Shirley Ellis doing "The Nitty Gritty"" and the Trashmen wailing out the "Surfin' Bird". A few ironic connections here: Bobby Vinton's remake of "There! I've Said It Again" would be knocked out of the #1 spot by the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" just a few weeks later. And you're right, AARON, about Johnny Tillotson being one of the last Philly Day performers before the California move. With the last of the Philly dancers seen here, tensions / moods were running amok on the set as the end was slowly creeping in. Johnny would appropriately lip-sinc to "Worried Guy" (a song written by Paul "Seven Little Girls (Sitting In the Backseat)" Evans) And the flip side of "Worried Guy" was "Please Don't Go Away" Thanks for this post, AARON! (My prayers to everyone that this plague be lifted...Be safe!)

Philip Collins I posted a comment on another video of You Can Dance To It how also in February 3 years later there would be another transition from February 64 into the psychedelic era starting also in February 67 with the Fab Four leading in again. There were multiple layers of eras in the 1960s.

I LOVE this stuff! Blue Velvet. Such a great song to have a slow dance with your partner. This style of dance is something I truly appreciated about the Philly years. In LA, even if the music was slow-tempo, you didn't often see this very rhythmic up close partnering of the early Bandstand years. Gently placing your cheek next to your dance partner, arm extended, the girl's hand gently cradled. Oh....you guys, that was so special. It's a shame it all but disappeared on Bandstand when they left Philly. Hey So.Cali kids....what was up with that??!!😀 Did anyone notice the guy at :41 who was whispering the lyrics? There was a couple at 1:12 who seemed to be having a heated discussion about being on camera. Hahaha!! Thank you Aaron for this sweet, calm moment in time. We needed this today. Everyone stay well! Big HUG to everyone!

I've entered this on other YT entries, but I must do it here again : it is ALMOST -------almost---------worth it to be old now, just to have been young , back then. I was a 17 y/o, 2nd semester senior in Denver, at South High School, & all of life, was ahead. I watched EVERY AB I could, from 6th grade -------'57 /'58 --------on, up to the 80's when it ended. --------and yes, girls were so much prettier back then, compared to the hard---cynical , phone-addicted giorls of today, it makes me sad. ------------MJL

Contrary to what a couple of people here said, Bobby Vinton's recording career continued to flourish after the Beatles and the British took over. In December of that year he scored his 4th #1 single with what I think was his best work, "Mr. Lonely". He recorded it in 1962 (the same session as "Roses Are Red"), but the record label, using the same instrumental track, released Buddy Greco's version as a single. Greco's version is so bland and emotionless and clearly he did not have the vocal range that Vinton had. But at the end Bobby Vinton got the last laugh.

As much as I do love Mr Tony Bennett, i have to say, this song really does belong to Bobby Vinton, & the perfect arrangement, background singers, & orchestration. It all came together for him, in those last minutes of innocence for my generation. How could we possibly know 11/22 was just ahead , & how everything seemed to change ? ------------------MJL, 76 y/o

I love it when Charlene says that funny line to Briscoe! But Briscoe Darling also said it a few times. Charlene once said it to Briscoe about the song about to be sung, makes HIM cry: "But that makes you cry, pa!". He says a very funny retort to her, "I'll fight it!" Then she sings the best song in the entire 8 seasons of The Andy Griffith Show." "There Is A Time" on the episode "The Darling Baby" aired on Dec. 7, 1964. It is on YT. Go hear and see her song it! A magnificent piece of gorgeous lyrics and song!
