American Battleship "Minnesota" Review - World of Warships Blitz

I've initially discarded this line - slow ships, slow reload, slow everything. I don't have the patience for that. But hey, I'm getting older, so maybe this can actually be fun? Let's give it another try.

I like Minnesota, slow & the secondaries are very short range BUT those guns punch hard & great dispersion...

The secondaries are just kinda there (although, especially on this branch, are your last line of defence - at least on a Monty, you can switch to HE, enable RR, kite away and make them regret their life choices.).

As someone who finished grinding this line a while back, I can say these things: Yes, it's slow, very annoying, and quite a pain to fight on, but the gun's accuracy is no joke. This ship also takes punishments like a champ and can even kill DD during an emergency with AP. As long as you stay in the center, take the pummelings for your teammates, and learn to angle while reloading, you'd be fine xD

Like another commentor said, it's a question of fire discipline. On my first attempts on this line, I was playing them more link I would normally play BB - tank & cruiser hunter. Doesn't work in these at all. Once I figured that I've got to make the salvos count, and should hit BBs at range as primary targets, plus position like in a Colorado, I'm actually surprisingly enjoying this.

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yesss, every salvo counts for this type of ship. It's alright to miss one or two, but you can still compensate by citadel-ing the heck out of everyone. You'd be surprised how many citadels you can do in mid-range with auto-aim off. One tip is to let them come to you considering this ship has a pretty long range on the guns. I really enjoyed shooting into the smokes as well to surprise those pesky cruisers.

I did the Vermont grind, and the nerf came days after I got it. I enjoy Minnesota, even when in T10. Im just comfy in it, kinda like how I almost prefer Seattle to Worcester. From a stats standpoint that's silly, but I just enjoy it more sometimes. Ya. I could just be weird LOL ...

I quite like Seattle tbh. Minnesota is definitely a fun T9, in a laid-back fashion. Haven't played Vermont enough to say, but Minnesota is actually quite manoeuvrable (length-to-beam ratio), and size is often forgotten as a factor for BBs.

Yeah the obesity tech tree, one of my favorites. It is quintessentially the most American thing you can play, a big fat mean ship thats saturates the air with democracy. While equally sharing the pain of being spotted with everyone including itself.

I strictly follow a personal rule applied to all of my wargaming game titles' experience. I never grind any nerfed lines 😊. Saves me a lot of time and money.

Problem is, you'll probably not know in advance :) I sincerely hope they don't nerf the PA CLs, since I'm pretty excited about those.

However, in my experience so far; if a player just do an honest grind from the lowest tier possible to preserve money (my case), it often happens that the nerf comes when one was not that high in tiers yet. So at least total waste of time and money might be avoided. No need to buy camos, no need to convert fxp using gold, no need to grind any captains intended for those ships, saves a lot of high level blueprints and silver coins, saves a lot of grind time, too. At least, that was the case for me when I was interested in the daring, vermont, malta, and colombo in the past. I have not a lot of playtime due to real life obligations, therefore I guess those real life obligations actually save me from continuing on useless grinds 😁. Typically, I was at around tier 7 or 8 when the nerf announcements came. I was in the middle of the Lightning, Kansas, t8 uk carrier, and that t8 italian bb grinds, i forgot the name as it was not an enjoyable grind anyway for that particular bb. In one very rare instance, we actually received official information regarding the nerf even B E F O R E the entire line was officially released, or at the moment of the line's official release. That was the case for the Kreml and the entire line of CCCP Bbs. I deleted all of those ongoing grinds as soon as any official nerf announcements were confirmed. 😀

@@FunandGameswithTerry me too. If there is no nerfs coming, I intend to grind the chinese cruisers all the way to jinan. I bought that commander xi jin ping dalian bundle, and I am approaching his t9 skill.

I'm not that far from Minnesota. But personally, this line is not too bad. Sure, it has a long reload but you are compensated with guns that punch hard. Tbh, I do play the Kansas the way I would play another battleship: shooting cruisers and such. Just to keep a destroyer alive. I've been having fun playing this line, although I did initially think that long reload, slow speed, this line is not for me. One day, I'm like hell, imma get the Kansas. I did, and I did not regret it. Vermont here I come.

Pretty much the same experience for me. I had to change my mindset, and value the shots - don't waste them on a CL at long range, getting maybe two shells on target. With the long reload, make them count.

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yea playing this line helped me in many ways. I guess having a decent reload makes you waste many shots on maneuvering ships, but this line, you have to avoid wasting the salvo. I shoot CL's that are broadside on, or some (like an Ibuki in a recent game) that rush forward like a bot, but without that insane turning speed. Yea this line is great, especially because I also have George Dewey, but he is almost Level 8 on my Kansas. Most of my captains are not really high level, the highest I have is 10 lol

I have Kansas and do like it. It is an easier line to play. The extra armor makes it more forgiving.

This a long range ship says Terry, who then rushes the cap & commences brawling in game 1. In game 2, he stands off at range, the commences brawling at the end. =} Heh!

Well, at the end of the day, you do what needs to be done. If a top tier designated brawler battleship with powerful secondaries is scared to cap, then the slow, long-range lumbering standard class has to go.

Not a fun ship to play I have to say. Slow like Vermont, in tier 10 games but with tier 8 Kansas' guns and armor. But with awesome dispersion

I think Dewey is the designated legendary captain, if you can manage to get him. I'd ignore marksman personally and go for a heal build, since you can only use the skill for the cooldown.

Honestly, while I do like the Kansas, this seems like a tier 9 Kansas, not going to be a fun grind (if I ever get too it) but still a better tier 9 than usual

It's a pretty good T9, actually. Being able to stay at range, combined with the relatively compact size and good manoeuvrability, really helps when you're hitting T10 matchmaking.

Have a question- When looking at Cdr skills, specifically Exploit Weakness: The 1%, is that any additional damage while burning/flooding, INCLUDING the fire/flooding (or additional fires/floods) if you caused it???? Maybe splitting hairs but trying to have full understanding of the mechanics, so figured if anyone would know...itd be you!!! 😁

I will need to test this, but my understanding would be that if the target is on fire and/or flooding, your guns do 1% more damage, regardless of who set the fires/flood.

The most boring and most forgiving line to play, I won't even play this unless I get Dewey from crates. I can't even properly "blame" myself for it if I make mistakes (oh, I didn't get to this position or am not aware in the map simply because I'm slow). This is just for players who want to rack up DPG than contribute to play as a team. Thus, I would rather recommend Montana line for beginners to learn the game than this line, if one want to play USS.

It takes some overview to position correctly, but that's a problem you'll already have starting at lower tiers with the standard battleships. You've got pretty good range on most maps (that aren't fault line), and you're still contributing by dealing damage to enemy BBs. I agree that it's a more laid-back line, and carrying a team that is derping around, especially on domination or epicentre, is a lot harder in those ships.

Agreed not my playstyle I prefer something like a Yama because it has a decent reload and dispersion

Dispersion on Yama is actually not that great, I prefer playing her at mid-range, since those guns hit really hard, the armour is decent, and that opens up more possibilities in controlling the battle. These ships are, for most parts, long-range snipers against other BBs.

Terry you are slightly wrong with the fail division. A tier 8 can’t get into a 6/7 game. A 6/7 fail division can only get into tier 7/8 or 8/9 games, so except for a down tiered CV fail divisions can’t help you.

@Fun and games with Terry yah vermi is so excellent to delete any light cruiser in maybe 1.5 salvo she is excellent eventhough full pens get 2k damage pee shell so its like 24k in all the full pens and if there is any citadel it will add value lol🙃🙃🙃😆

This line is really good… it just all about positioning and fire discipline. You’ll want to fire every time your reloaded… don’t do that. Wait for a good shot then fire. You’ll pull 80-100+k games regularely with it
