I saw a documentary about Otto Warmbeir and it seems the North Koreans injected him with an anesthetic to calm him down and for whatever reason, either because of his personal genetics or because of the amount injected, it stopped his heart and they only noticed/revived him after 5 minutes by which time he got severe brain damage. Very sad story. Don't go to North Korea guys. It's not a tourist destination. There are real people suffering there, we need to be respectful of that.

I would presume the 5th floor was for the people who worked at the hotel, to remind the workers not to believe the American tourists stories/prevent them from talking to them in anyway
@Estie_cz
@Estie_cz 5 жыл бұрын
@@e11124 Possible. I think the fifth floor is just too obvious. If you want a floor where no one goes, you put it on the top floor, or the basement. Not in the middle of the hotel on a floor that is actually accessible from all directions and people go by it day by day. It seems to me that floor 5 is a bait and although a lot of people bite the bait, they choose whom to use as an example for the North-Korean nation. This time it was Otto - it's very likely he didn't even steal anything, he just represented everything they hated in America and used him and eventually killed him.

His whole speech at the court just seemed extremely fake. Wjy would he say that he's the oldest son that often? I mean, this is way more likely to be said by a Korean then by an American. In Korea, the oldest son often becomes the money maker so the family really depends on him. I've often heard korean friends saying their the oldest one and the pressure is on them or something. But this guys family wasn't even poor (they lived in a good neighborhood) and in America It doesn't really matter whether your the oldest son or not. What I'm saying is I really think It's likely that someone wrote that speech for him and forced him to say all that.

THAT STATEMENT OTTO READ WAS 100% IN FULL SCRIPTED BY SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS KOREAN AS THERE FIRST LANGUAGE..that and its also completely obvious that the video of crime is totally doctored... its painfully obvious, I cant believe I had to scroll this far down in comments to find someone willing to state the obvious ...I cant stand kim jon un or his dictatorship but grow some brains people and before you slag off on Otto for his supposed non exsistent "sins" (of which there was none, Kim wanted a political pawn, he called his secret police and instructed them to arrest the next young white american student that attempts to leave the country and see him found guilty of whatever is convienient, put on a show trial and lock him up, otto just happened to be that guy, he dident do fuck all wrong.) Also before you give him shit about going to North Korea factor in these 2 cold hard facts as well...... 1. More Americans are kidnapped tortured, and murdered IN THE CONTINENTAL USA, bye their own fellow countrymen - BY FAR - the numbers are in the thousands every year in the USA....compared to what averages out to roughly (for the last 5 years) 1 american hostage taken about every 18 months by north korea as a pawn.....the majority have been returned alive as well I might add...

If you found Otto's story fascinating, please please look into and bring awareness to Bob Levinson. He was taken March 9, 2007 in Iran and is the longest held hostage in U.S. history. Photos and videos of him were sent to his family in 2010 and 2011. His son Doug, will be testifying to Congress on the 25th and they are still actively doing everything in their power to bring him back. We may not be able to bring Otto back but we could help bring awareness and bring back Bob. #WhataboutBob

Mike's KZbin Channel Otto seems like a really kind, generous and positive man that truly was a beacon to everyone around him. But there is a difference between being brave and stupid. It is heartbreaking that he had to end this way. The North Korean government completely neglected him and ignored his humanity. The United States government obviously did not help enough to save him. You must be cautious of your surroundings and the dangers of traveling in foreign countries. I understand that many people enjoy broadening their horizons and exploring the wonders of our world, but we must do these things with competence and care.

Having assisted a fully awake adult wheelchair-bound person on and off a standard passenger 747 several times over a number of years, I can confidently say that no, they could NOT have taken an unconscious adult off the plane in a wheelchair (much less on a gurney/cot) while walking down a ramp like that (steep and slick.) And keep in mind the plane in the video was merely a standard smaller passenger plane too as opposed to a 747, hospital plane, or better yet - a helicopter. I'm also guessing there was NOT a lot of time to prepare or to act, much less warn people ahead of time....they had to get in and get out ASAP, using whatever tools were available to them at the time. ='(

to me the speech was the most interesting and revealing part. here's my theory: i think the speech was written for him and i think the person who wrote it for him was actually trying to help him. otto understood that he basically had to bash america like that to even get 1% of a chance at seeing his family again so he learned that speech and did his best but the crying was not because he was "ashamed to be an american" or what he said in his speech. he cried because he was desperate to just be let go of. and the writer of the speech (also obviously victim of nk's government) surely wanted to help him or else he would have written a different speech. someone in the comments pointed out how often he talked about being the oldest son. otto couldnt have known whatt that meant to the koreans. u guys get me? you can control a lot but not the peoples thoughts..

Cultural relativism is not to be underestimated. This is so scary to watch. It's unbelievable that people are seriously still blaming Otto for this. It shouldn't be a "he needed to be careful" type of situation. It needs to be fixed as a WHOLE. North Korea is the issue, not Otto. If you watch the video of the so called confession, it will give you the chills because you know something is wrong. Stop blaming Otto. He was curious about a different culture. He doesn't deserve to be trash talked on the internet because of it. Have some respect
@BhappyD

Amen! It's heartbreaking to hear how cruel some people are being to this poor boy, and to his family. Have some respect for a young man who was killed unjustly, with NO proof of any "crime", and allow this family to mourn the loss of their son, who did NOTHING to deserve his fate. Nothing. The issue isn't with Otto, the issue is with North Korea. Yes, given the risk, people probably shouldn't be traveling to NK. However, this doesn't excuse the fact that a young adventurous boy was tormented and ultimately killed. The ONLY one to blame is North Korea. I don't care the circumstances, the VICTIM never deserves to be blamed. Have a heart people! God bless his family! 💗

I believe that there are currently 3 Americans imprisoned in North Korean camps (possibly 2, I can't remember if that number included Otto or not). It's pretty well known if an American is captured by North Korea, as they like to make it very public and use it as leverage towards America. To them, it's a symbol of their power, and they want everyone to see and believe that. When they arrest an American, they want everyone to know about it.

Rebecca Bentley I mean in Canada you can go to jail for talking against Islam but not any other religion & if you don't agree with your kids gender identity the government can put them in foster homes, that doesn't seem stable to me

This makes no sense to me, Otto does not not seem like the type of person to commit a crime in another country especially North Korea. I mean this kid is smart and seems like a really nice person so to me it doesn't even seem real that he would go to the 5th floor let alone take something from there. It's time for us to do something about North Korea.

I will tell you why. Just as south korea is backed up by USA, North Korea is backed up by China. Now nor USA, China, UN or EU care about the people in both koreas, i´ll tell you what they care about, power. So yeah when France and USA force people to accept treaty of no to nuclear weapons but still they dont trash them they are not fighting for people but for power, same here. So China "protects its people" by not allowing an american "freeing" military base near them. That is why USA helps south korea, not because they care, but because if south wins then capitalism and democracy will win and USA will show "look i am powerful" place a military base near china and bye bye china´s power. Same as happened with the cuban misile crisis. So if you agree with the cuban military actions taken by usa but disagree to the military actions taken by china you are just plain hypocrit
