The most important aspect of the video is one not mentioned. That is, the house is fully paid for and you don't have to worry about monthly mortgage. You don't pay property tax too, so it remains in the family for as long as they want. Now, that is freedom, which explains why some Nigerians don't understand what you mean by stress.

@kaneo3243 Жыл бұрын
@@kaycee6036No, we don't! Nigeria is NOT a settler society. There's a spot that belongs to the family as long as they give birth to male children. The eldest male child inherits that spot while his siblings move out to found new homesteads. Some run to perhaps 1000 years. No govt can survive messing with such a property by way of property tax. Can you imagine trying to take possession of such a property after buying it at tax sales? You would not live to tell the story. Some families have lived continuously on the same piece of land for centuries. Until recently, we lived in villages. My family has lived on the same spot for over 200 years, as a running thread of 1st-borns. And that's not even the extended family central home which has become a shrine. The family meets there once every year during the feast of the Dead to pour libations and commune with the spirits of the ancestors. In some parts of Igboland, you may not marry from your village bcuz you are related & traceable to the same progenitor, even if you don't know what generation of cousins you are to one another. This may be the reason why having a male child is so central to Igbo cosmology. It's a curse to not have anyone maintain the family homestead and commune with the spirits of the ancestors; that severed connection between the living & the dead, called "double death" (onwu na abu), is the Igbo equivalence of going to hell. We implore God to never allow that to happen, hence, the names we give to our children: "Amaechina, Eziechina, Afamefula, etc."
@cryptoseries3259 Жыл бұрын
It's expensive because you're not just buying the house but also buying the "connection and status"----by meeting up with the caliber of people living in Banana Island! 👌🏾🙏🏾
@Iphie2019 Жыл бұрын
I laugh when I hear ignorant people thinking that we live in huts. Funny people everywhere. Your videos are enlightening to those that don’t know. Nigeria is truly blessed. Our problem is bad governance. The best part about owning property in Nigeria is that we don’t pay property tax and mortgage. Once we pay for properties, it remains in our families for as long as we want it.
