I can resonate with him. Home is where your heart is. I was born and raised in the Phils but lived in the UK longer than I have in the Phils. I also lived in Spain and Germany. I am ME....not a Filipino or British. I still have the Filipino in me in terms of being friendly, hospitable, kind, cheerful, caring....among other things, but then those traits are human traits anywhere in the world. It's just more ingrained or noticeable with Filipinos, in my opinion.😊

It's good to know that he feels comfortable living in our beloved country Philippines. Welcome to our country, I hope you enjoy staying here. Just be careful and don't trust too much. Sometimes people take advantage of you when you are too nice to them. In every country there's bad and good people. You seems very honest and good man and very respectful. Just be careful and take care always. Wish I have the chance to visit your place one day, I love the surroundings with so much plants around.

@Alexkosh -- Historically, countries that have 4 seasons with short days and harsh winters, the people tend to have "hunter gatherer" type mentality. Chores that need to be done before the winter sets in, are done in a timely manner, because their survival depends on it. In the Philippines and other countries that don't have harsh winters, time management is much more lax. In fact, because excess heat can cause illness, the people conserve their energy or risk getting sick. Of course, now-a- days we can buy supplies out of season in an emergency, but it takes more money to do that. And not everyone can afford to live that way, all the time.

He got lucky in finding a Landlord willing to work with him in getting a Large house in that area for $500 as he then turns around and rents it out AirBnB for $100 a night as he could easily stay in a Nice hotel downtown and only pay $25 or rent it for less then a week and that pays his expenses so if he rents it more then that he travels for free.

Nice interview, genuine guy. They only non-positive thing is short sided - live for now thing. That works until the "tomorrow" shows up. I seeing a lot more younger guys showing up on these channels. I understand work, jobs, bosses, time lost to work, sucks. They are forgetting, or choosing to ignore, the fact that your key earning years are that 30s to 60s. You are valued, you make bank. I see dudes in their late 50s and 60s now that are having to go back to full time real job work and it SUCKS. They can't get in at the level they were and certainly not at the level they would be had they stayed in the game. They are now getting pennies on the dollar for what they would have got had they trudged through a few more years.

Sometimes it's hard to quantify what it all means. I have run my own business for decades working long hours (52 now). For 5 years from 2017-2022 I did 85 hour work weeks and made great money...paid off my house, have no other debt, and big $ in savings. The result was alienating my wife of 23 years and my children...so now I am freshly divorced (losing half the big house I paid 100% of) and none of my 5 kids talk to me anymore. Everything I did was for 'tomorrow', but somehow lost focus of 'today' and it cost me all that truly mattered.

I'm a Filipino who's been in the US over 40 years and when I vacationed, I actually find it more expensive in Dumaguete to fill my gas tank. The electricity there is also more expensive than here in the US. Yes, the Filipino food is cheaper there but the American foods there are way overpriced. As always, service everywhere is very slow and the slowest is processing papers with the government sectors like making changes on birth certificates.. I went to different beaches (Dumahuete, Cebu, Palawan) and also sad to see that some tourists like Koreans just leave their garbage (including their baby's diaper) on the table and expect Filipino waiters to clean after them. I know that Western foreigners will not do that as they are more aware of the environment and have more respect to people. The Filipinos too, should really learn on how to keep their environment clean.

Because Filipinos are accustomed to a difficult life, one could argue that they are mentally tough. When compared to other races, Filipinos are incredibly patient. Have you ever seen a race that is troubled yet still manages to smile? The country's development may be impacted by the relaxed nature of Filipino culture, but ultimately, Filipinos lead the world in fortifying their will. That's why in the USA there are many people who commit suicide because the pace of life is so fast, and things are so expensive that they are almost chasing life. They appear to be very mature. They appear extremely mature, even though they are just in their late 20s or early 30s. Lord truly is an expert at striking a balance.

I can't commit to retiring and living in the Philippines until after 2028 or so, as they will return to those insane lockdowns again interim and perhaps mandatory needles. Lived in Philippines from 1990 to 2020. Just returned from a 1 month visit to Dipolog and Dumaguete areas. Had visited Dumaguete and Siquijor many times since 1991 back when there were no hotels, no vehicles and not even any electricity on the entire Siquijor island.

Six figures as in 100k is becoming minimum wage is some metropolis, the cost of living is so high. But it helps if the two of you agree on a budget. Otherwise maybe convince her to invest in an asset, like a house with a mortgage then when you get paid, there will be something urgent to do with the money, ie paying down that mortgage. And maybe over max up on those retirement funds,.ie the point being to reduce 'disposable income' cause it is easy or tempting to spend when one has cash sitting around

Ok....a few things. I can't imagine this guy would be a real digital nomad because if he was and he had to rely on working online for his income he wouldn't live where he's living because internet is horrible out there. It's spotty and when it rains the internet may go out and the power in goes out not to mention the fact that the Philippines is getting a lot more expensive but these are things nobody seems to mention
@Alex_Kosh
@Alex_Kosh Жыл бұрын
He just shared his story; he wasn't trying to prove anything. He doesn't have problems with the internet there. Only one time in a half year, since he had this apartment, there wasn't a connection. It's true that there could be power outages, and for that case, he has a portable power source (cost for $50) to plug in the router. Starlink is available in the Philippines, which can solve all issues, even in remote places. And you're right that the Philippines is getting more expensive, as are other countries like the US and EU.

It is not less stress for locals. Only foreigners who have enough retirement money and stay out the drama. For the rest, it is pretty much like anywhere else. In big cities like Manila, poor people stress about daily living, rich people stress about more money and more power. In small cities and particularly rural areas, yes there is less stress, but as I said u guess that's the case for most rural areas around the world.

Im Filipino some of my countrymen just throw snd leave garbage everywhere. I know I did it when I was younger. Education and knowledge of the environment has helped me. Also the local government should invest in garbage management and provide more garbage containers in public areas. It should also be taught in the elementary education up to 12 grade about environmental protection and nature.

I like your beautiful rest house. Maybe I can apply for vacation. Why not buy also a house in Manila or in Quezon City where I can refer to you my Aunt best friend sell a house and lot in Cainta. I appreciate your hard work you spent and grew in Israel and in the US. By the way, do you have your own Family like sons and daughters.

You my enjoy things becuse it's all cheap as you think, but remember, you are living in a Countryside, in rural area. Maybe you should try spend sometime in a big city like Manila ,Cebu etc, and try to rent as much as big house where you are now. Its a diffrent thing.

How much is the monthly rental that he is paying to the Canadian landlord? Good that the landlord allowed him to sublease this house? I am curious to know how much is the monthly rental of this house if rented through AirBNB. I might be interested to rent it when I go back to Dumaguete for my next holiday.

All your questions he answered in the video. The initial deal was $500 per month and he made renovations of the whole house. Availability and price you can check using link from the description

Renting in the phil’s can be very troublesome, it’s just not the same as the west with tenanted rights and the standard of housing is really poor generally. The attitude referenced about the owner …”why do that .” This is one reason why I’m going to build so I can build to western standards. Good luck to the guy.

Thank you for your feedback. In the context of buying a nice house or the house you might like, of course, you can't do it. But for local people in the province, it's possible to buy a native house.

Why do you say the Philippines chose you, that's kind of condescending. You chose the Philippines because: it's cheaper to live here; you got a tolerant owner of the house; etc, etc. That's BS; foreigners choose the Philippines because their lives are better there, just admit it, duh!!
