Hi guys! This video has some really important information that you need to know about pronouncing the American English vowels- the tense, the lax, and of course, SCHWA (everyone’s favorite!)
I get into the nitty gritty details of variables that can affect vowel length, including tension, stress, and phonetic context.
Length can be a subtle feature and difficult to perfect, but it really is a key ingredient to improving your american english pronunciation and eventually sounding like a native speaker.
I’ll also be going over all of the American English vowels with you one by one, along with their International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols, with an explanation of the unique IPA symbols that I sometimes use. It’s a lot of information, but all really important for perfect vowels:)
Enjoy! :-)

Do native speakers say and perceive the subtlety effortlessly? Are vowels before voiced consonants longer even when they are in unstressed syllables?

In terms of vowel lengths and timing? Yes, 100% :)

Since we are on the subject of vowels, how is the "yu" vowel classified? The "y" is in "fuel", and not in "fool". Is the "y" sound part of the vowel, or is it considered to be a consonant that is snuk in?

I consider it to me a /j/ consonant before the /uw/ vowel.

The "y" & the "w" are regarded as glides or semivowels.

To raczej rezultat perfekcjonizmu.
