Remember, you do different modes for different purposes (this is not for GS, it's for everyone watching...) No AWACS? No problem, build SA in your radar set using RWS (range while search) at longer ranges, then adjust PRF according to target angle. As you gather your target set, now you want to prosecute those targets, so the best way to do this is establish TWS locks (track while scan) with your Fox-3 capable weaponry. This way, as you pickle off weapons, you will ripple launch them incrementally according to (a) how many targets you have vs (b) how many weapons you have to use against them. Knowing how to use your radar is EVERYTHING for a fighter pilot. You live and die based on knowing how to employ your weapons system, and the radar is a huge part of that.

Hey GS!! I have a buddy that was an Eagle Crew Chief. they took him off the Eagles and put him on cargo planes. BOY was he pissed. I learned a lot from him about the different personalities of each individual plane. Some were trash and always problimatic like his plane was. It was the problem child that no one wanted to fly LMAO!!! Others acted like they were brand new out of the box planes...that never wanted to stay on the ground. Never broke never a problem. They all have their little quirks and personalities. Which is amazing to me. I am still working on getting my gear to play DCS. I am not going to play Keyboard and mouse. It's bad enough trying to play Mechwarrior 5 or Mech Warrior online. And I do not want to use a console joystick. Thanks for all your encouragement and teaching. I have been watching for 2 years and 1 month now. I Feel like I have learned a ton from you!!! PS we are going to take the cost of that wasted AMRAAM out of your paycheck to pay for it.

Just did the same scenario last night but against 3 j11 flankers. Same result….. locked all three and launched from about 43000 ft.. and 60 miles …… smacked the first two on the first volley…. Saw the change in aspect on the third, offset about 15 degrees launched the fourth where I thought he’d recommit, he popped up on my radar and immediately splashed

In 1990 I was standing on the battlements of Castell Rhaglan (Raglan Castle) in Cymru (Wales) when a pair of RAF Hawks (Red Arrows, actually) roared overhead at a shockingly low attitude. Super-cool. The thing i miss in this radar is not being able to see the PRF mode in TWS .. it uses whatever PRF mode was set in RWS so if you are on TWS and are not sure of what PRF was set or want to change it you need to change back to RWS change mode and then on TWS again wich makes the radar have to start all over again building tracks and cause the PRF changed you might not get the same tracks as before...

Hi, not a dumb question at all, at long distances, its best to maintain lock as long as possible or until pitbull, but even if you can't do that the AMRAAM will go active on its own if you break lock, but if that happens a long distance from your target then the AMRAAM probably won't see the bandit and will go stupid.
