16:00 : traditionally "Diya"-s (pronounced "Dee-aah") or lamps are earthen, and they are lit with oil/ghee and rolled cotton strips for the wick. Wax Diyas make it convenient but what Cadence is talking about is what many, many people still do! Diyas are lit in Diwali and also for all Pujas. Especially Kali Puja! Btw in Bengali these diya-s are called "Prodeep"

In Hindus Fire is scared. Light represents Knowledge & darkness symbolizes ignorance.. Knowledge is seeking the Ultimate truth. Whereas in Christianity the emphasis is on sin & darkness refers to anything sinful . "This is the Light even of [all] the lights, [and] is stated to be beyond darkness; It is to be known by [the above] knowledge; It is to be attained [only] by knowledge; and It distinctly remains in the heart of all " -- Bhagwat Geeta 13.18 .

We people from Nepal (a close friend and neighbouring country to India) also celebrate Diwali as Dipawali ( a festival of lights and togetherness with family, here we celebrate it for 5 days: 1st day we worship and feed Raven, 2nd day we worship and feed dogs as messenger of God, 3rd day we worship Goddess Laxmi as the goddess of wealth and cows as they are regarded as Goddess Laxmi , 4th day we worship ox, and on 5th and last day is Bhai Tika on this day we we put 7 colored Tika on our brothers' forehead put on Garland of marigold and pray for their long and healthy life. In return our brothers present us with money and gifts. India and Nepal share very similar cultural practices. Seeing your family appreciate the cultural values so that Cadie would remember her cultures makes me believe she is extremely lucky to have you as family. I wish every child gets parents like you. Thank you for doing everything that you do. I hope Melanie is feeling better now.

HI, I'm your viewer from Kolkata. ❤ These are pronounced as "Dee-yah" and they are traditionally made of clay, and mustard oil is poured into them, before lighting them with a candle or a matchstick. The entire house is lit up with these diyas, and especially the balcony and infront of doors. Goddess Kali, also known as the Goddess of destruction is worshipped on this day. And the non-bengalis(and now, practically every Indian) celebrates Diwali, or the festival of light, by lighting diyas all over the house, and keeping all the lights on in every room of the house, and decorating the house with colorful electric lights, and moag importantly, by lighting crackers (though the government is trying to reduce the prevalence of use of crackers as they lead to a huge deal of air pollution and noise pollution, and also affect the dogs on the streets and inside the homes. This felt so good to see you celebrate Diwali with your family, and reminding Cadie of her home. Love you. 🌟😘 Happy Diwali! ❤

I love that you are invested in your daughter retaining her culture, while keeping yourselves true to Jesus. Finding that balance takes research and careful planning for all the reasons you state here in this video, and I think you are doing a great job of that. As Christians, we need to set the example of loving our neighbors and respecting the differences of other humans, even though we may not agree with them. We will still always do our best to share to Word and Love of our Savior to lead people to Christ. Like with nearly every religious holiday, there is non-religious celebratory parts to it. Helping Cadie to learn about and keep part of her Indian culture is very valuable, and the fact that you are doing it in a way that teaches her, but keeps true to our faith in Jesus, I think that's fantastic. At our church we just hosted a Harvest Festival with Trunk or Treat for the kids, because it's a fun fall activity. And there's nothing wrong with having fun as a community. I LOVED your video about your choice to celebrate Halloween, and I love this video. Thank you for continuing to share your life journey with us! Sending my love and prayers from a fellow sister in Christ!

This video is very personal and intimate for me, because of what it did to trigger long-lost memories and emotions associated with it. I cried when Melanie read the Verse. I was born a Hindu. I am an agnostic right now, but I studied in an Irish Catholic Christian Brothers' School called St. Patrick's in Asansol (near Calcutta) and was part of the school chapel's choir. I used to sing this hymn called "Father God I Wonder". The hymn you sang at the end reminded me of that and I had completely forgotten the song for the past 20 years until right now. The same goes for Kali Puja. In the locality I used to live, we celebrated Kali Puja/Diwali with lights and fireworks and beautiful devotional songs, that are now playing in my head that was a long lost memory somewhere. Then we moved to Calcutta when I lost my mum. I was 10 at that time and my brother was 2. So this was perhaps the best time of my life and I want to thank you for reminding me of this time. This festival is truly the victory of light over darkness and good over evil and I'll save this video as my favorites under the "Memories" section to watch it time and again.

Great video😃 and the part where Caleb said “I can’t get enough” the song in the background is called Phir bhi tumko chahunga from an Indian movie called Half girlfriend 😊, if you were to watch bollywood movies I’d recommend watching some shah rukh khan movies he’s the king of bollywood 🤗 (IM A HUGE FAN OF THE INDIAN CULTURE) and I can speak some Hindi also, use are also a beautiful family and I love watching your videos ❤️ and happy diwali guys
