'Superman' (1978) was a fantastic 'part one' movie. Starring Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman and others, it broke the mould in so many ways. It was also the most expensive movie ever made at the time. The visual effects and product placement were also highly memorable. 'Superman II' (1980) was quite good but could not surpass the first movie. By 'Superman III' (1983), they lost the plot. It has all been a downhill ride since then ;-)

Well I can't determine what's the best. But my favourite Part One movie is "Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box". Friend of the show Stephen Chow stars in this film, introduced as Sun Wukong (Jayden will know this legend) but quickly plays a human called the Joker, who exists in a world 500 years later only to find out he is the reincarnation of Sun Wukong. It probably has the best cliffhanger I've ever encountered because it probably has the most iconic character introduction in Zi-xia, the prettiest fairy I have ever seen, who I hear will be the most vital part of Part Two. The film makes no sense half the time but it's so frickin entertaining as an cheesy fantasy adventure flick (with a bit of random time-travelling) and also has Stephen's slapstick touches that is still recognisable as ever. I give responses to my Hong Kong films here and there, but I try not recommend them at the same time. However it's only 87 minutes and it's on Netflix so I would recommend just watching it and just let your brain amuse itself. For some reason, I did not watch this back-to-back with Part Two: Cinderella, which was also released in the same year. Thanks to this question, I'm gonna try and see it soon hopefully.
