Honestly as an asexual person it makes me absolutely tired just hearing about a story that's being so pushy about teens having sex. Like wtf. It's 2024. Let people, especially MINORS, do what the fuck they want? Weird as fuck for a series written by adults to have an episode be entirely about pressuring a teenaged girl to have sex when she clearly isn't ready. Like some people don't wanna have sex and some people have different boundaries for sex like ?!?!? Leave the girl alone wtf 😭 and of course it ends with her doing it anyway bc what even are boundaries. Like I love the sex positivity we have nowadays but it can so easily lean into just the same old heteronormative pressures and It's like how does no one see the issue with having a half cooked barely coherent story about a girl being pressured into sex like are we being fr you'd think we'd move past this bs 😭 I just feel bad for kids growing up today bc for all the kids who feel safe in their sexuality there's the other half who feel lame and childish for not doing stuff they aren't even interested in bc its seen as cool and normal to do. Like that's what creates trauma and coercion in young kids and teens so I just get so angry seeing it pushed in media. Also is Kelly played by the girl from Outerbanks bc that's wild what is she doing 😭
@cyalo5 ай бұрын
i totally agree. you can be completely sex positive, the opposite of asexual, and allow women and girls to have control over their bodies WITHOUT sex. some examples off the top of my head are hairstyles, or style in general. girls get pushed to go bright blonde and have that hourglass figure. this could have been about addiction to plastic surgery, starting with bullying as a child. it absolutely could have had the same effect without sexifying everything like ALL media does. its gross. keep kids out of sex, and learn how to write a females perspective on horror w/o bordering to full on assault hollywood 🙄
@siobhanflanagan43392 ай бұрын
Yesss!!! And on top of that teens can start to feel shame for not being interested, ready or be considered “behind” in that area of romantic relationships, this constant exposure of teenagers on screen having romantic relationships that are heavily based on sex is also weird because why are we showing adults playing minors having sex ??

Brilliant discovery of the old “Masters of Horror” episode that clearly "inspired"/ was blatantly ripped off in order to make this “Rabbit Rabbit” low-effort horny-teens-at- Drive-In AHS(s) episode. I remember being sooooo disappointed with the ending, and how the director was so easily found so may years later after going off the grid. I seriously cannot believe they just rewrote that old MoH with dude from Walking Dead. (like you, I never watched this show. Couldn’t understand the hype) I get that Carpenter directed and the old “if you’re gonna steal, steal from the greats” thing, but c’mon, man, why you always theivin’, RM?

So there is a fairly well known (in horror fandom) movie called Antrum, which is a film with the pretense that it's actually cursed. You get a little mockumentary framing of it, and the film follows with a really eerie atmosphere and seemingly subliminal messages. Just saying this is a pretty cool idea in my opinion; I think it's fine to take ideas that aren't as often explored, because the idea of a cursed horror movie is just urban myth at this point. I do think it's fucking weird to have the strength of this concept along with the drive in, and the non-horror plot elements have to do with teenage BS thru the lens of someone much much older than the current generation of kids. Like I think it would've been stronger to have more linking with the concept of the plot, like someone is a horror enthusiast super into it, someone is more hesitant maybe even spiritual or religious, someone is curious and doesn't believe it's cursed--I just can't imagine teenagers ~casually~ going to a drive in movie that's cursed and they aren't already full in aware of that. Since I'm a writer I just think it's funny to distract your audience with really petty drama BS instead of having your characters be stringently focused on the main plot. It's a practicality thing, like this is a short story, unless you just wanna write about a teen losing their virginity you should REALLY just focus on the entire concept of the story, we don't have more episodes to go back to this boring B or C plot. Just to give you an example of what I mean, Antrum takes place in one spot. An older sister watches over her younger brother, who thinks their dead dog is in hell, and he's trying to dig a hole to find him. She told him about the hole in order to assuage his nightmares about the dog being in Hell, so she just kinda set this up herself, only for his digging to actually start to show them different layers of hell. It's a disturbing movie where imagination and reality are blurring for the characters and pretty importantly, we discover through the film itself what they're even doing and what their motives are. We don't have some fucking random B plot of Normal Real Life Bullshit. It wouldn't add anything to the concept of the film to be like "oh the boy is weird and gets picked on at school and has no friends, that's why he's obsessed with the dog!"--we do not care about that cuz our primary thought is what the fuck happened with the dog for the boy to even assume his dog was going to hell! We just get little to not background on the kids and it amplifies the weirdness of everything. Ryan Murphy has this reflex with comedy and reality grounding in his horror; he doesn't seem to enjoy or revel in something just being fucked up and bad. He assigns rules to things, he makes the afterlife seem like no big deal really, he often undercuts his horror A LOT. But usually it's okay in a regular season because that's going to be made up for and it's sort of AHS' thing to be more camp than it is existentially scary. I still think it's weird to have that reflex when you're making a non episodic story. Like it should be funnier or campier of you're gonna do that but instead it feels cliche and kind of boring in comparison to the horror concept, not complementary or thematically related.

Cain I need you to review a Mike Flanagan show. Any Mike Flanagan show. I recommend just starting with haunting of Hill House. It is the absolute opposite of AHS, it’s thought provoking and beautiful, sometimes genuinely scary, and pays homage to its source material tastefully while still being very original. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. AHS entertains me, but Hill House stays with you. It’s also beautifully shot and gorgeous to look at.

For the love of all that is holy, please do call out what Murphy has ripped off. Everything that ass has done, has been a ripoff of something superior. Years ago I started a list of every single thing Murphy ripped off. The most obvious would be Freaks, but even Hotel rips off The Devil in the White City. The man doesn’t have an original bone in his body, and I genuinely struggle to grasp how he has made it this far in his career. He depends on the talent of the actors, the problem is, said actors have tapped out. Now what does he have? Kaia Gerber….Oof. (Sorry for any errors, I’ve been struggling with my thyroid cancer treatments and surgeries.)

This doesn't sound like a rip off of cigarette burns to be honest. The idea of cursed lost media and media that makes people go crazy is just a trope; it wasn't exactly new when MoH did it, and there have been plenty of other stories with that trope sense then.
