Someone tell me how 2010 is supposedly a worse mistake than the Wembley goal. One was to take the lead in extra time in a world cup final, the other was to even the score in the first half of a round of 16 that ended 4-1 for Germany anyways.

@@Morgan_Black I think it's worse only in that it was a lot more obviously over the line. 1966 has taken a lot of replays to establish it probably didn't. Lampards was obvious in real time on TV and realistically from where the linesman was stood. Both the instances in 66 and Lampards, spoiled the potential for a true and fair result.

So it would still have been 3-2 to England not 4-2. Mistakes by officials have always happened and they tend to even out over time. The worst cases are where it’s deliberate cheating, such as France denying Ireland a potential World Cup place. There should be retrospective penalties against teams that benefit from that.

The 2002 World Cup was HIGHLY controversial because of all the dubious referee behavior for both host countries' games. Japan and Korea benefited from really bad calls in their games to take them farther than they had ever reached before in the tournament. I'm not saying the referees were corrupt but...

Not only them. Brazil recieved a penalty for a foul on Ronaldo that happened outside the box against Turkey in the group stage, and Belgium was invalidated a legitimate goal against them after Brazil had gone 1-0 up. While Germany was spared a handball against the US that should've been awarded as a penalty and the match ended 1-0 for them. Italy had five goals disallowed, three of which were completely legit (two against Croatia, two against Mexico and one against South Korea). It's an embarrassing tournament, people who cry about 2022 have no idea what a rigged World Cup is like.

The incident at 5:05 did cause some changes. Since the referee was from my own country of Sweden it got a lot of publicity here aswell, but the focus was on positioning of the referees. There was NO possible position for the head official to catch this handball. The only possible position to see was to be behind the goal. Everywhere else, it would have been some player breaking the line of sight. Same for the assistant referee. It was this incident that caused UEFA to test a system with 2 goal line referees aswell. So total 8 referees per game. 2 at goal line at either end, 2 assistants, 1 main and 1 close to the substitutes. Consequenses for Martin Hansson. Was 4th official during the world cup 2010(this incident happened 2009), and then was not refereeing international games anymore, and officially retired 2013.

Heavy injury doesnt allways mean that there was a foul. Sometimes duels end in injury despite being a clear tackle. In Schumacher Batiston case, it clearly was a foul, but if ref didnt see it, he will not call it. Yeah, I know his job is to see it, but sometimes there are other players in the line of sight. Also about Korea - Italy... The offside is the Assistant's job, Moreno (referee) had little say in this. As for the penalty that Italy demanded, it is painfully laughable. 100% a dive. The Italian starts falling a whole second before contact, dragging his leg AND he falls on his LEFT side which is supposedly the side's leg that got tripped. So, how on earth do you get blocked/fouled on your left side and STILL manage to fall left-side first? Yeah, that was a total and obvious flop. Anyone saying otherwise is either blind, a fan of the bigger football country (Italy than Korea) or know nothing about physics. No penalty at all. Yellow for diving was the correct decision.
@4400seriesFAN6 сағат бұрын
Let me answer your question about the referee not noticing the two yellow cards and how he could not remember the face: Referees have to take a Yes or No decision every 2-10 seconds in the game. This decision requires the consideration of multiple factors on the fly, usually 4-5 of them. After factoring these in and making the decision, they also have to decide on further action on it or not, which usually has yet another 4-5 factors to consider. Then, for the exact same decision, they have to decide on how to handle the offender, the "victim" and all of the other players while also trying to reject the pressure from all of them AND the fans. All of these get handled in mere seconds and occur tens or even hundreds of times in a single game. It is actually really tough to do, all while you are sprinting and have fast heart pulse. This is why the refs write things down. Trust me qhen I tell you that it is very, VERY rare for a referee to remember a face in the match. We usually only do it if and when a player is a pain in the @ss. So, there you go.

Well, the thing about the coma incident is that technically, the outcome of a tackle/challenge/foul should never impact the refereeing decision. It's a contact sport, so sometimes, shit just happens. I'm not saying it was the correct decision in this case. I'm just saying in general, the referee can never give someone a red card simply because someone got severely injured. It's never about the result of a challenge. It's about the challenge itself.

If one use other rules.. try NBA or NFL.. and they have there rules!! In anyway.. world cup and referees.. there have been a lot of wrong/not so good referees descitions that even have changed a match.. and a lot of conspiracy teories.. about referees! Its always the referees fault if your team lose a match.. kinda! In anyyway referees do make mistakes.. its kinda part of the match! Some mistakes get highlited.. especialy in World cup! Soooo.. VAR then that supose to solve "everything".. its a pro and con situation.. tghe more VAR the insecure the referee looks like, its take time.. it tend to be like NFL.. play for some seconds/minutes.. stay and wait/rest and then play again for next VAR situation! Its this that in bigger leauge countrys, they like VAR, in other lower leagues in europe, they hate it.. its rather this.. we should get that goal accepted.. it was difficult to say if it was a real goal.. but hey.. we are on offence and can make more easy to understand goals! And to you Luke.. its a match.. but altso a game.. I still want to see your improvments of kicking the ball!
