He said he even picks a personality standard when speaking a language to help memorize and separate. Could be partly why, but like De Castelle said, intonation is important when pronouncing a lot of words in a language. Not even anything necessarily to do with dialect.

It's because sounds pronounced in different languages come from different places, for example I've head that to speak Japanese accurately the sounds should come from your chest whereas to speak English you use the upper part of your throat (or smt?), so your way of speaking naturally changes in order to sound more fluent and feel comfortable

He might try to emulate a particular speaker of the target language. I try to match someone's intonation even if it makes no difference to the meaning of the sentence.

It happens to me too when I speak another language rather than Arabic wich is my mother tongue, speaking German change completely my voice, but speaking russian will make it really deep, and this is because of the output of sounds that differ according to the language

@@daysimon0909 Sure, Started on Duolingo but don't stick to Duolingo only as you become more fluent, it's a good way to start since it relies on gamification which makes learning more enjoyable for a beginner. But once you feel ready, try hitting real books. I also use Memrise for Vocabulary. I am learning on my own. Good luck :)

@Thanos Depends a bit on what your native language is. If you're Dutch for example, German is pretty similar and not so hard. But generally speaking, French is definitely easier, especially the grammar

Lazy Person's guide to learn a foreign language extremely fast. 1. Memorise the 1000 most common words 2. Watch movies subtitled and spoken in the language you are learning. How do young kids become fluent by the time they turn 3 or 4? Do they know how to write or read? Have they ever studied their language? You subconsciously learn the grammar and pronunciation just like those young kids. You listen and read at the same time. That's exactly how I learnt my english in just one year. Basicaly those 2 steps are the most important ones. I would still hung out with native speakers after a while, changed my pc and phone menu to the language i was trying to learn, read articles, talk to myself etc as a side help. Fluent in just a year without even trying hard at all. Fuck books and lessons.

Finnish has extremely difficult grammar, and it's closest relative is Hungarian, which is also another very difficult one. But, I admire his enthusiasm. When I sampled Finnish, one of the songs I listened to was Jarvet Jäihin Jää by Ruoska. Difficult pronunciation to say the least.

***** you should see from the wide array of languages that he learns or speaks that simply a difficult or different grammar won't stop him, and the fact that Finnish is an "agglutinative" language won't also hamper him significantly especially since he is also learning Turkish which has the same feature

As a native German I am amazed how fluent your German is. I would love to hear you speaking german now, since the video is more than two years old. I can't believe how much you've learned in 8 weeks ._. And your pronunciation was very good too. You sounded very german even though there were some wrong words ( I respect you for learning the german pronunciation within 8 weeks xD) I'm also amazed from the other languages but since I can only speak german and englisch, a little bit french and understand italian, I can't judge them. :D But I'm sure they're as good or better as your german.

Helen Koleh As a German I understand a lot when a Dutch person is talking. To me it always sounded like a mixture of German and English (no offense ;). Is Dutch grammar easier than German grammar? Because I assume that learning Dutch would not be like learning a complete new language for me :) Am I wrong and Dutch is way more difficult than I think?

Emilio Genarro Yeah a lot of German people understand it :) , I understand more French than German but then again im not fully Dutch even though I'm born in The Netherlands.I understand Yiddish more than German. It's weird for me to have troubles with languages because I speak 5 and im learning the 6th and 7th language. :) I think German and Dutch grammar are both hard. And Sharona van Andel I totally agree with you, I have some friends that are learning Dutch and they said grammar is so hard.

The reason is pretty simple. He choses quantity over quality, hence forth by learning the basics anyone can express in 20 languages, he only real fluent in 1-2 languages besides english.

My dream is to speak multiple languages but I'm so bad at remembering things.. I'm currently learning Spanish and French. I want to speak Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Hindi fluently. That accent was very heavy when you spoke turkish. Try to use the front of your mouth more than the back, and don't pronounce the a as in 'accent', but as an 'ah'. Try to sound a bit less harsh because turkish never uses guttural sounds, except in some villages but that's more of a dialect than standard turkish.

loli rae he should definitely change HIM and try any other arabic nationality for a teacher . Egyptians aren't the best native arabic speakers, actually up to 80% of the letters are pronounced wrong in the Egyptian accent, if compared to other arabian countries .

In my opinion his German is really good. I think the grammar is not that easy. Of course, as everyone who isn't a native speaker, he has a little accent, but really just a small one. Shisuka (annichan1999) I'd say his German was good but as both you and him have said, the grammar is hard and you can pick up small points like his dative cases not being right. Also his pronunciation of umlauts - i'm guessing because of his accent - makes it hard to distinguish between certain words. To be honest though the amount of languages will just open so many doors for him in the future and I wish I could become as au fait with all these languages.

I saw this video about 6 years ago in school. It was around the time I started to study Mandarin. Every since then, I have always come back to this amazing person and have watched many of his videos and interviews repeatedly. Tim Doner, thank you for being an inspiration to me in my life to this day and going forward. I hope to pay this forward in society. :) (As a note: I was 13 at the time, and had no clue what I was really doing nor the discipline and methods! xD Since then, I have studied many languages to *small* degrees, but always gotten distracted by the next one and felt the pull of the next fascinating culture and its people... Now I have overcome this problem and am starting to study Vietnamese. My highest self-taught proficiencies are Japanese, which was very "on and off" over the past few years, getting to approx. JLPT N3, and also a basic understanding of Spanish. My highest GCSE was an A* in German, also. I now know the methods and the practices that work for me, but feel I am still early in my language journeys. It is in large part Tim Doner's spirit that has kept my passion for languages alive to this day. My goal now is B2 over the next 2 years in Vietnamese, before deciding which language to focus my efforts on and reach "fluency" in next. :) )

Arabic is my Native language it's hard and we continue to learn forever :D because every word has different meanings with slight difference (example hijab means "head veil , barrier between things (hijab hajiz = the Diaphragm as it seperates between heart & lungs) , cover ( hajab el shams = blocked the sun) , a lucky charm , a hideout " depending on how it's used in contex .. however this diversity allows you to explain your exact meaning Watch movies/dramas , and try to dedicate time on self-learning :)

I really admire you for being in the process of learning so many languages... I myself study English, French, German and Japanese at uni, and I know how hard it is! Especially after a while, when you start mixing words and grammars... Italian is my motherlanguage and I can easily say that you are highly comprehensible, you wouldn't have any particular comunication issue on an everyday basis. That said, if your aim is to get really good at it, I'd suggest you focusing on the pronunciation of double sounds and above all on the prosody of the sentence, because your accent is the one that every foreign use when trying to "make fun" of Italians. There are SO MANY different Italian accents, but I'd suggest focusing on the most "standard" one, which is the one spoken (mostly) on tv and in the northern area of Lombardia (again, more or less). If you miss a plural or forget an article it's not a big deal, but these small changes will help you make an even better impression! Good luck ^^ (Please do correct my English if there are any mistakes, I'm still learning ^^)

Nah don't feel stupid.. this guy was born with natural abilities to learn such languages in such pissy amounts of time, he would also put in a lot of hard work but he's learning several languages at the same time and after 3 months or less he can rather easily speak in all of them. Writer Shard in fact that is not true, in portuguese you read as you talk the same dont happen in french, spanish, Italian or Romanian. In Portuguese you have a lot of different pronunciations and what make some simple words hard is the nasal use of the words, and a lot of other things. :)
