The commentary did not say Cricket is the most popular sport. It said it's one of the most popular sports. Yes.... Football/Soccer ⚽ is absolutely the most popular sport globally. Cricket is considered to be the 2nd most popular. It's certainly the 2nd most watched sport in the world after football ⚽. Cricket is the fastest growing sport in Brazil btw

In England we're rather renowned for inventing sports, introducing them to the world, and then losing at them :-) .

2:05 .. He said "One of the most populous" ..NOT "most populus" .. which obviously is Football (Soccer) ... but as per the popular official survey ... Cricket is the 2nd most popular sport in World after Football.

A test between England & Australia concluded this week which was so good it will turn fans back to the test format. It reminded us that the test asks a lot more of the players in terms of patience, maintaining concentration, keeping a cool head, taking momentous risks and making measured decisions whilst the fans are checking out the faces of the combatants and wondering how the drama will play out. Not all test matches are exciting but this weeks match was edge of the seat stuff. In comparison T20 is snap decisions and everyone just has their best crack and then let’s see who wins. No one’s fully invested either side of the fence. Not that fans watch an entire test - that’d be 8 hours by 5 days.

Test cricket is the pinnacle of the sport. Only the best teams can win at test cricket. T20 is more of a promotional event, but the prizes are not as significant as in test or one day cricket. The Ashes (Eng vs Aus test series) are on June/July and the first match was a ripper. You should check out some highlights of each day’s play. Most people don’t watch an entire test match, but might have it on the TV in the background, watch a bit of it, go outside or whatever and come back and check the scores etc.

Yes the county that plays in South America is called Guyana. Technically it’s a country that’s from in South America, but in reality it’s one of the nations that represents Cricket Team of West Indies. This team is not actual country but a region with combined nations of Jamaica, St Lucia, Barbados, Guyana, & even more to form one single cricket team

As someone who loves the sport of cricket T20 isn’t really cricket. It’s a great way for people who can’t stomach cricket to enjoy aspects of the sport but T20 isn’t cricket. Cricket is about the contest between bat and ball, about adapting to the conditions and T20 doesn’t offer any of that. In T20 the bowlers have no opportunity to showcase their talents and are forced to bowl in 1 or 2 areas. It is a batsman’s game and doesn’t really represent what cricket is however it is spectacular entertainment and has saved the sport. I have played all forms of the game and there is nothing like playing a game of cricket for 5 days. It’s not an easy thing to do but the long form of the game is what the sport is all about

Dude it says one of the most popular sports in the world not number 1. Speaking of number 1 then no doubt football (soccer for Americans) is the top cherry in the list

Soccer or more properly Football IS the most popular sport in the world. However Cricket runs a close second and is definately the most popular summer sport in the world.

Most popular in terms of following, it's second only to football.

T20 cricket had been played by club/village cricket teams for decades before it became an international game, so personally I had no problem with it. Still prefer the longer formats of the game, but there’s something for everyone in having the choice.

The 'weak' element of T20 is that there really are only so many variations on a 20-over game. They are swept along by the crowd, and the music, dancers and fireworks and other razzmatazz! By the time you have watched a few more over a month they faded into a background image.

I remember when T20 was introduced and we watched the first few games it was very exciting. Once they started playing a lot of T20 games it got boring pretty quickly because it’s kind of a novelty that throws out a lot of what cricket stands for - patience, momentum, building an innings…. And the idea that you have to beat your opponent, rather than just getting lucky.

Hmmmmmm. Top four? You missed NZ. South Africa. West Indies in the 80s were great. Sri Lanka. Bangladesh. Zimbabwe were a Test playing nation. Oh, and 'one' of the most popular. Not THE most popular. Never watched a T20 match. Never will. ODI or test (if I have the time and there's a tsst being played close enough).

something our American friend wouldn’t know is that all cricket fans have been in mourning since the yanks lured the brilliant athletes from the West Indies to the track or to play baseball, basketball or whatever - crickets fault for their lack of financial support but yeah, they really brought a lot of excitement which has been missing. When I was small I heard about someone called Donald Bradman on the radio and I asked my Dad if he was the best cricketer. He said, “alright I suppose” which I knew meant he didn’t like him. So I asked him who was the best player and he broke out a grin and said “Wes bloody Hall”. There was no internet in the 1960’s so it took a while before I knew he was from the West Indies and that my Dad loved him, and any sportsman really, because he put on a great show. I hope that that is where we are heading now as exemplified by the captaincy of both the Australian and English teams this last week.

My first exposure to cricket was the one day matches, from there I started to enjoy Test cricket. When Twenty20 came, I was a bit resistant to the idea to start with but I eventually came around to it. I guess I’m saying that each form of the game has its place and all forms of it are good. Test matches are the pinnacle of the game for me tho. A good test match is incredible in it’s intricacy/possible permutations to the point where many matches could be considered unique in the way they unfold over the five days. You can be edge of the seat for days not even kidding

It didn't say 'the most popular sport' it said "one of the most popular... ". Everyone with an opinion agrees that football is the most popular but cricket comes next. Cricket is played in South America; particularly Guyana. The International Council (ICC) has 104 members worldwide.

Look mate my first experience of cricket was my dad saying to me that he had tickets for the Thursday of a test match and he was going to take me out of School to come with him. We went to The Oval and I had a good day out with my dad. Do I dislike T20 how could I its the same game!. IF T20 gets an American excited about cricket who am I to complain. BTW Cricket has a history England vs Australia Test matches are called the Ashes check out some highlights and look up what the ashes are just for fun 🏏

I don't know that anyone resented t20 when it was first introduced, it was more cricket and highly entertaining. Then it grew so big that it cast a shadow on the longest form of the game, test cricket. That was concerning for the traditionalists but it has survived and as Kathy commented, the first ashes test between England and Australia was such a great contest, it's bound to bring people back to the long form. The ashes is only played between England and Australia, after an epic battle, the bails from the stumps were burnt and the ashes put in an urn and that is the trophy they play for

Hey tekky baby!! I saw that first game at Eden Park. It was funny and we had a good laugh. I didn't like the fireworks, the cheer leaders, any of the razza mattaz. As far as I am concerned, keep all the eye candy away from cricket. I did enjoy the explosive cricket. Scoring 100 runs in 20 overs is crazy. When you think, in a Test, they have have scored 50 in that time. But then, The bowlers only have a pokey little 'hit box' that they are allowed to bowl the ball into. Taking like 90% of a bowlers arsenal out of the game. That's kind of lame. the game is really just made for batsmen. I like to see the bowlers get rewarded for good bowling. And, that is precisely why you may only see 50 runs scored in a Test, in the same amount of time. test cricket is the beautiful form. limited overs is the eye candy. It can still be pleasing to the eye, but, much less rewarding in conclusion.

Dunno what age you were when you moved to the USA from Africa, but I just assumed you would know about cricket... Which is a bit presumptuous of me eh?? Us Aussies have played world quality cricket with "South Africa" for decades And yes I know you aren't from South Africa, however in my mind I just assumed that you would know about cricket... Silly me
