There was a documentary in the UK in the late 1960s where southern English believed that Northerners ate their meals from pan lids, and only ate fish and chips or dripping butties (beef fat). The prejudices were quite real, and were a throwback to the 1930s when the north of England was in the grip of a serious recession. People in the south didn't suffer as much. We've always called them soft southern twats.

It’s pronounced like Geordie from Star Trek. But it’s not all northerners, just those from Newcastle, really far north, near Scotland. The language is influenced from many languages including Scottish and even Danish due to the Viking invasions. Hence Geordies share some words with the Danes

It's funny because it's kinda true. I'm a bit posh from West London and when I was younger northerners were viewed as some sort of alien species who should be mocked and avoided at all costs, but no one quite knew why. Looking back now it was stupid and horrible and I'm glad I moved away, I'm in the midlands now and we're pretty much ambivalent about the north and south equally.

Northerners refers to anyone from the North of England, but not just Newcastle and the area below the Scottish Borders. Northern England covers a much larger area - including Manchester, Liverpool, in the West, and North Yorkshire in the East. It also includes Cheshire and parts of Derbyshire There are some other Catherine Tate videos featuring this character which are worth watching.

It's pretty universal for a couple of reasons - Britain was a really good place to settle (invade) and until the 1840s most people had never been more than ten miles from their home. So regional (and local) accents, cuisine and vocabularies took root - enabling a whole pantheon of suspicions, prejudices and jealousies to grow, allowing almost everyone to have someone else to look down on...

Whilst some large places in the north have negative connotations, particularly for being parsimonious or reverse snobs (or, in some cases, to a lesser extent, Hyacinth Bouquet-style snobs), Newcastle pretty much avoids any seriously negative connotations, unless you count a probably on average overstated reputation for liking drinking and football as some. It is cosmopolitan and educated enough to not be purely defined by the industrial aspects of its past and its friendly sounding accent generally has little or no detectable underlying alternative motive/modus operandum to it. As a result, it's the perfect target for blinkered Southern horror in this sketch. (n.b. Newcastle doesn't meaningfully resemble Viz either). And, yes, Northerners can be just as - or more - blinkered about Southerners.

In my part of Northern England we have Jam Eaters (Workington), Marrah's (Whitehaven), Sheep Shaggers (Millom). Those from the North East are usually called Geordies but that's not strictly true. You are a Geordie if you hail from Newcastle Upon Tyne but if you came from South Shields you're a Sand Dancer, From Sunderland (Maccum), Middlesborough (Smog Monster / Smoggy) or Hartlepool (Monkey Hanger). Geordies are just my city mate. Newcastle upon Tyne. It's our dialect, very much built up from Old English, Old Norse, Romani, Dutch and Middle French. Our dialect is very mutually intelligible with the language Scots, so if a Scottish person comes here and speaks in Scots, we can understand them 95% or above.

Geordies (pronounced Jordy) are from the Newcastle area in the northeast and Scousers are from the Liverpool area in the northwest, completely different accent. In the 80s, both would leave you without your hubcaps 😁

All Geordies (Jordys) are Northerners, but not all Northerners are Geordies. The actress playing the 'Northerner' is actually a Geordie. But there are lots of places in the North other than Geordie-land ...and they're all much better than the Southern pooftahs with their smashed avocados and electricity. :D
