Really enjoyed the reaction. So Dave Allen has now redeemed himself in Mandy's eyes! When it's been such a long time since you've seen a favorite performer there's always the fear you may not find him as brilliant as you remembered. After watching this, I've set aside those doubts. The absolute brilliant Dave Allen! With a simple story he lays bare the often sillyness of religion. He does that with other things too. Things that are often obvious to us, but with a little diving explained to the silly ideas they are. And still we hold on to them. Pity Billy is blocked because he is truly one of the greats and should be enjoyed as widely as possible

I watched your reaction twice just to be sure I captured the point where you warmed up to Dave Allen, seeing someone nailed to a cross does that.😁😁🤣 I have always enjoyed Dave Allen and most sketches work better than others. growing up in Dublin and growing up within walking distance of Rathfarnham, I know the convent and school called Loreto Abbey, I went there too (at least to the school, not the convent, I don't look good in a black habit 😏) and he tells no lie about how intimidating they were during this era (though later) was the age of the broken cane across your backside or knuckles and normal teachers where no better at times. Corporal punishment was banned in Irish schools in 1982. While Allen spent his early years in Ireland before moving to the UK and Ireland has changed in the last 30 years, it's no longer under the sway of the Catholic Church as it once was. Dave Allen was pure joy to watch then as for many at the time it was so outrageous. the talk of the schoolyard. great laugh Mandy I am glad you enjoyed it and I laughed along with you. have a good one slán go fóill

Hey, I'm so glad you gave Dave Allen another chance. Being Irish, and of a vintage that remembers his TV shows, (even though I was still young, I always got his humour) it was the way he looked at things that happen in everyday life that made him funny. Observational comedy. (Billy Connolly being the master, in my opinion). And, of course, his material had that Irish slant that made it just the right amount of wicked too. His TV shows were a mixture of stand-up and pre-recorded sketches, and very irreverant, which I love. There are many stories as to how he lost (half) his finger. My favourite is that he lost it while working in the printing department at the Drogheda Independant newspaper (the town I'm from), but whichever one is true, whenever anyone said to him "you're the guy with half a finger", he would always reply, No, I'm the guy with nine and a half fingers! Keep doing what you do ☺

Hi Mandy, great to see you give Dave another chance & enjoy this video. As other`s have mentioned, I`d love to see you react to (Dave Allen - Adam & Eve). Also, for your own enjoyment when you need a laugh, checkout Dave Allen At Large. The episodes are on You Tube, they are around 45 mins long. This was his Tv Series from the late` 60`s through the `70`s, with him telling jokes & funny stories with his great sketches in between them. :)

I may have been the main protagonist when it came to recommending Dave Allen's "Teaching the Time to his Kids" video, and for that I apologise... but in my defence, I thought it was really funny! 🙂 I'm glad, therefore, that you persevered and found something of his that you did enjoy! Good that you got a better impression of Dave Allen's comedy from this clip. You should definitely check out clips from the Seventies when he was at his peak - he had a swagger which was more like that of a singing star than a comedian. Another thing which set him apart as a stand up (apart from the fact that he sat down) were the regular sketches which were always a hi-light of his shows.

As someone whose first nine years of education was in Catholic schools, let me tell you that there ain't nothing scary than nuns! This was back when they were taking corporal punishment out of the schools EXCEPT for Catholic schools! I've seen the worst. Nuns pulling kids up by the ear or the short hairs on the back of your neck. Nuns whacking kids across the knuckles with rulers (not the flat wooden side of the ruler either. The side with the thin brass strip!). Smacking kids across the back of the head. I've even seen a nun throw those blackboard erasers at kids. There are no graduates of a Catholic education. Only survivors. Survivors with PTSD.

When he said "cupboards," that part sounded sus, on the part of the nuns. Here, in the story, they were talking to a four year old, and it was mentioned about the person going into cupboards. Then they jumped in with he "doesn't go into cupboards." It only takes half a second of thinking about it. Four year old, someone in the cupboards ..... That sounded sus on their part. ........ But, yes, "everywhere" would include the cupboard. "How many sins can a four year old have?" That's a Sunday school lesson, Mandy. I taught Sunday school before. It's too long to explain in the comments. Also, the other points, like "three in one," they're also a Sunday school lesson, too long to explain in the comments. Except, I CAN say, here, that most people don't understand how three people can be one person, but that's what the book says. Blame the religious part of me, but I didn't find this act funny. I guess, if I didn't believe, I would have found it funny. I know I'm gonna get booed by everyone in the comments, being the odd man out, here.

I still think you got the first one wrong Mandy. He was trying to show how adults treaded kids when he was a kid. Shout at them if they don't understand. Similar thing here, the Nun being angry with a 4 year old for not being able to understand the concept of God. Even though he was before my time, discovered him in the mid 90's. Dave Allen's comedy along with Christopher Hitchens' philosophy helped me a lot I think when I was young to understand I was an athiest and ended up being proud of it.

Dave was revolutionary in his youth. A lot of people wanted him banned outright. Did you notice he is missing a finger on his left hand? And, if God is everywhere, that means he DOESN'T go into cupboards. He's already there! Yeah telling a child that if they're naughty, they'll go to hell and burn, is bordering on abuse. This just shows the silliness of the story though, especially seen through the innocent eyes of a child :) Great one this. I'm sure there's one from him where he talks about the nonsensical things in religion and at the end says "...and this is the book you put your hand on in court and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" I thought that was this one.
