Based on the information floating around from the audience that was live there during the filming - the version shown on TV is heavily edited (cut down). It took Kevin Bridges roughly 40 minutes to tell his story - when he starts from the beginning, that's why everyone is losing it so much. I don't know what I'd give/pay to watch the raw version from BBC's archives somewhere :D Wish they made it available.

So many ‘personalities’ on these type shows. They don’t let one guy steal the show. The audience wants raw real tv. Their egos don’t allow that.

That was Professor Brian Cox you recognised on Lee's team, along with Kevin, the stand-up. On David Mitchell's team were Stephen Mangan, a comedy sitcom actor and the ever beautiful Keeley Hawes, an actress. WILTY? is basically always funny so look forward to more. David Mitchell has a superbly funny sketch show with his comedy partner, Robert Webb (called, er, 'Mitchell & Webb' basically) and every sketch from there are winners too.

I once almost accidently hired a jumbo jet. I had flown through the airport the previous year so assumed it was still in existence. Well, it was, but not commercially. I phoned to book a flight and only realised at the payment stage that the price seemed a bit high. When I questioned this they got confused and said, sir, you are hiring the jet and have to supply your own pilot and pay for fuel costs etc. I cancelled the booking. 🤦‍♂😂

Generally speaking when it comes to the transferral of sitcoms, dramas and other progs back and forth across the pond: British TV companies will buy the version that is shown on American TV. And it's overwhelmingly been that way since time immemorial, so Brits grow up absorbing a large slice of American culture from being very young. That's why - whether we like it or not - we British are very familiar and maybe even comfortable (though by no means everyone is) with the American way - it isn't strange to us. However, when a British TV company sells a programme to other countries, Americans mostly won't buy the prog off the shelf, they, more than likely, will buy the idea and make their own version citing cultural differences, and that their version will go down better with the audience. And that's why many 'muricans don't think anywhere exists outside the US of A. You are correct KB in your assumption, that the guy on the right is Professor Brian Cox. He is an Astrophysicist who's made many programmes for the BBC about the Universe. His favourite catchphrase is "It's a billion.... billion.... billion.... billion.... miles away...."

Ricky Gervais did NOT write the American office. He was down as a producer I think, along with Merchant, but other than one brief cameo, and their entire script being lifted for season one, his entire envolvement around the US office was cashing in royalties.
@gbulmer
@gbulmer 18 күн бұрын
Your comment seems to be an inconsistent. Gervais and Merchant wrote the script for the UK "Office". You seem to have written the _"... entire script being lifted for season one"_ (from the UK office) for the American office. So you seem to imply the script for season one of the American "Office" had already been written by Gervais and Merchant. Is that what you meant? If it is, it seems mealy-mouthed to claim they were only producers and cashing in royalties. Best Wishes for 2025. ☮

America has taken a lot of British sitcoms and transfered them for an American audience. Many failed but some such as All In The Family with the wonderful Archie Bunker turned out to be a great success .All In The Family was taken from Till Death Us Do Part. which had too many local references to be a strait transfer which applies to many transfers.WILTY was originally an American show so it can work both ways.

The best one, for me, was the one where Henning Wehn was sought by Interpol while on holiday in Morocco.

Look up Reginald D Hunter. He's actually American but didn't start doing stand-up till he was living in the UK for several years. It was the friends he made here that convinced him to start. Haven't seen him do anything for a while but that's probably down to my own ineptitude.....

Prof. Brian Cox (the guy on the right) is indeed a very smart cookie. He presents science documentaries in much the way that Neil DeGrasse Tyson does in the US. He was also a musician in the 1990s.

Brian Cox is a physicist but was also a member of band that made the charts. So he is a British celebrity.

I assume you are referring to the band D:Ream. Brian Cox was the touring keyboard player for D:Ream, he wasn't a member of the band. Peter Cunnah played keyboards, and sang vocals, in the studio. I assume Peter Cunnah needed to be out front for live gigs, hence Cox was hired. Best Wishes for 2025. ☮

I'm also from Glasgow and I'm proud to say that when this went out on air originally, I immediately guessed he was telling the truth. It just seemed exactly like the kind of stupid shit two 18yo Scottish guys would get up to on their first lads' holiday abroad. If you watch the vid back, you can spot the subtle signs of how he's trying to fool the other team, because sometimes he takes the gormless act a bit too far. For example, go right back to the start when he's just read out the card - when David asks him what he bought, his eyes drift back to the card before he says "a horse", as if he has to double-check. But most people who were lying wouldn't do that, because they'd want to look confident about the story. Kevin's a very, very smart man, but because he has a thick Glaswegian accent, it's easy for him to pretend to be a bit daft or incompetent, because many people who aren't Scottish buy it. More fool them. 🤣

OK now I've read through the other comments and I love that so many other Scots are here basically saying "yeah we knew it was true from the off" as well. Yes! 😂😂
