Our grand parents have suffered and have lived through the whole situation. We don’t hold the current British generation responsible for what happened because the poor guys are not taught anything about their history. They’re just ignorant bunch of people singing the glories of how gravest Great Britain is conveniently leaving out the details of how it became great in the first place! It saddens me to my core and I believe more awareness is required. So thank you for the video and your kind words of understanding at least. I genuinely hope India one day can become as great as what it was before. And kindness towards one another irrespective of cast and colour and religion is the answer for the future generations to come. Peace ✌️

Mr Shashi Tharoor fails to mention-- Britain let go of India, because in addition to Indian resistance, it was thanks for US president FD Roosevelt, pressure on the Brits, who was very critical of Churchill, sermonising about 'Free world' when Britain colonised majority of ppl who were not interested in World domination...Thanks to US President FDR for his part in India's independence.

Sorry to be a lil blunt here - Whites in America still consider us Browns as "second class folks from third world". Indians working in the US are still paid lesser than a white working the same job in the corporate job from what I have known from my Indian friends in the US. I worked with an American organization in its Indian location and the Americans who were recruited much after me and who did half the work of what ppl like me did in the same position were treated much better than us. This clearly remains the Great American discrimination at workplace. Glad I quit and showed em my middle finger. One life - I'd rather earn less and have more respect
@vasupratapsingh5808

Well, I think your 1st statement is not true... I've been working in the US for last 7 years and my salary is even more than the natives for the same position. And the truth is that many of the employers in America actually prefer Indians over American job seekers. Why? because of the skill difference between the two.
@ColtraneTaylor
@ColtraneTaylor 2 жыл бұрын
@@vasupratapsingh5808 But that's anecdotal evidence. At least racism in the US workplace (by whites and Indians both) in matters of pay etc. are established fact.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor is an amazing speaker! I've watched his speech 10 times or so, and I'm not tired of hearing it. Regarding preparations, rather those who typically argue against paying them, why do you feel the need to add your two cents? When governments throw millions or billions at banks and various industries on the verge of collapse, these people are nowhere to be seen to argue against the government saving their investments. As Dr. Shashi Tharoor points out, many of these people and their countries donate to charities, paying for things that they may not have had a hand in, so why not pay for the things you've done or benefit from? The US is in a similar situation with various minority groups, but the one that continually gets stepped on, the African American community, is owed much more than a "I'm sorry." Kidnapping, raping, lynching, oppressing them for centuries to name of a few of the horrors they went through and in some cases still do.

This guy hails from south india and is a prime advocator of soft Hindutva and now asking for reparations from British but this guys casteist ancestors enslaved and exploited Millions of Indians(untouchables) under the yoke of Hindu Caste system. He first have to pay reparations to Dalits and backward castes. Note: Sasi tharoor belongs to the Nair caste of kerala who has a notorious past of enslaving, discriminating millions of untouchable dalits in the name of Caste superiority, similar to race in America.

What sort of idiotic argument???😂🤣 You couldn't negate any of those infamous barbaric atrocities attributed to British occupation of India and you took up trick of moral fallacy by pointing to background credentials of speaker.😂🤣 What he told are not his personal openion or discoveries, these are facts which can be verified. Attacking a speaker on his personal background is too cheap a style of argument. Every discerning Indian will agree with Mr, Tharoor's openion and you won't dig up each person's ancestral history to counter him?????😂🤣😂. Feeling pity for the your mentality. Further, more paradoxical is how same Britain with record of committing atrocities brutal human rights violations act today as vanguards of human rights by taking up global issues for discussion in their Parliament.

As a matter of fact, I do expect you to be sane enough to understand that caste is a social institution. Indian Constitution do have affirmative action, institutional provisions and legal provisions to compensate for the past wrongs. Holding a person accountable for wrongs in social institution is unjustifiable, so are we not holding each Brit of the day responsible for past atrocities even though we know that very base of Great Britain is built with blood and wealth of their colonies. Please don't degrade yourself by commenting such trash!! Regards
