Great. Remembered my teacher too, still remember her very much Mrs. Vaishali. Closed books all ears. Proud to say I received the best education in Bharat, though not a top school but very prestigious due to teachers there. Our Indian culture rises from such schools. Happy I got to learn 5 languages with Marathi, Hindi and our Mother Tongue the ancient Sanskrit. It is Vidhyashalas or Schools as we call it here the roots of our civilization. Beautiful days.

What many Indians dont know about that the British also.had colonies in South America and the Carbbean. Countries and Islands like Jamaica, Trinidad and Tabago nd Guyana where uncountable Indians were brought to, to work on the sugar cane fields. That the British also allowed their fellow colonisator Dutch/Netherlands (1863) to take Indians from India as contract workers to work on their sugar cane plantages after the freedom of the slaves. These indians on the British colonies were called the coolies and till date they refer to themselves as coolies. I am from Suriname which was a Dutch colony and we are proud Indians....we never let anyone call us a coolie. We are Hindustanis..

Hello and Love from Netherlands and Bharat (India). I have studied with Surinamese people here who were all brilliant, kind and helpful people. Whenever we had "Bhojana" - or "Annadhanam" - Preparing Food for all people at the local temples or halls, we have lots of Surinamese people who take part and many who come for lunch or dinner. The fluency of Hindi and other languages you have is amazing ! Put me to shame lot of times as people (especially in cities) in Bharat are trying to imitate the western dialects and mostly speak english. While our people from Suriname are exceptionally talented at the language. It was only after I came to the Netherlands I came to know this that Suriname has an Indian population. Many don't know and won't even know how people from Bihar, West Bengal and U.P arrived at Suriname ! and you have t "The Indian / India Day" to commemorate the arrival of Indians on the shores of Suriname. I am very happy and proud that our own people have flourished in a different nation and are major backbone of the development and contribution to it. I remember whilst studying my Masters in Norwich, I was playing the drinking game, Ring of Fire and someone chose to say the name of British Historical Characters. In indian education we teach the history of every country to the students and not only that of India........I am 15 yrs. Old and I already know much about French revolution, Russian revolution,Hitler rule and policies, industrial revolution in europe or britain, colonilism in south africa, both world wars, british colonialism in India, their ruling policies and atrocities, indian struggle for independence and many more of them. Indian education never segregate and that is why it is one of the best in world.

So I did my A-levels in 2017. And no, they didn't teach us about colonialism. They taught us about British Rulers such as Henry VIII and about Germany. However, this was due to the educational boards, different schools follow different boards and sometimes within the same school, there may be different educational boards for different subjects. Just giving some context, so it may also be true that they do teach colonial history but not in great depth as maybe an Indian history textbook would. I think the reason for this could be that History as a subject in school can be argued to be a tool of propaganda. The reason we don't see colonialism taught in British schools is the same reason why Indians aren't taught Mahatma Gandhi's racist and sexually abusive past. Whilst in India, I was unaware of Gandhi's past until my teacher decided to go 'off topic' and told us about it. Until then, I was oblivious.
