When Stephanie Cole joins the cast in season 3 as Mrs. Featherstone, the Black Widow, you'll see some great banter. Great actress, great character.

The writing on these shows really is great. Ronnie Barker was a genius wordsmith & could make the most mundane of situations funny. Fantastic interchanges between all the principal characters as you say. Thanks once again 👍

Ronnie Barker is one of my favorite comic actors and this is indeed one of his greatest roles... However, he did NOT write this series! The credit for being a 'genius wordsmith' really belongs to Roy Clarke, who wrote several of the UK's greatest comedy series, including 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Keeping Up Appearances'... both of which are also well worth a review from the host of this channel... (Hint, hint!) ;)

The old English expression a "bunk up" not only meant a boost/lift but could mean s-e-x. The old lady, first customer, was a character actress Edna Dore. I saw her in a play at The National Theatre.

I remember my father(RIP) was a big fan of Ronnie Barker(RIP) and was also an Antiques dealer of sorts, I spent most of my youth from the early 80s onwards around antique shops, Markets and what we call car boot sales in the uk, usually set in a car park people sold stuff from small tables, we had a local car boot sale just on the other side of my home town we used to visit every Sunday, at some point Ronnie Barker had retired and my father said that he had opened an Antique shop and said he had visited it and sold Ronnie Barker a clock or something, now my father was renowned for telling lets just say tall tales so I just shrugged it off as that, but one day I was at our local car boot with my father and spotted Lynda Baron (Nurse Gladys Emmanuel) I was shocked and even more shocked when she spotted my dad snuck up behind him put her hand on his shoulder he turned around and said the usual hello how are you etc like old friends, I was blown away and still am now.

bringing back my childhood,to think granville became del boy (only fools and horses). They made a new version and granville inherits shop its called still open all hours. The original show began back in 1973, with The Two Ronnies star Ronnie Barker starring in the sitcom alongside Sir David as corner shop owner Albert Arkwright. In the revival, Granville took over ownership of the corner shop with his son Leroy (James Baxter). Open All Hours ran for four series with a total of 26 episodes, while Still Open All Hours made it to six series with an episode count of 41.

Something you may not know regarding the register draw. It was connected to strings that ran into the room behind it and someone would pull the draw closed to create the effect.

I work 5 minutes away from where this was filmed. It's a hairdressers although I've never seen it open. Technically it's location would never work as a store because it's sort of in the middle of a small residential area (no main road access) but it's a good place for filming When they did the new series a few years ago the staff used to come in for food when they did outside shots

I knew I live near to where this was filmed - but noticed that last week I was on the street at 7:53 with the bicycle and legs in the basket (it's pedestrianised now with parking about 500 yards away from the scene) The shop names have changed, but I only recognised by the shape and positioning of the buildings one of the markets to the left of the shot). It is Doncaster city centre.

My favourite bits are whenever Granville impersonates Arkwrights stutter. (Arkwright) just j j j jiggle it a bit. I can't j j j jiggle it a bit. Their both such versatile actors. David Jason was good later on in his serious role as Detective inspector Frost.

You should check out a show called Allo' Allo' if you haven't already. It's set in WW2 France but it's hilarious despite the setting. Similar style of humour but it's laced with raunchy double meaning jokes, has a continuous story and ran for many many seasons. It's another BBC classic comedy, like this is. Shame the BBC went woke, right now they wouldn't know comedy if it hit them in their balls, but that's a topic for another day.
