English teams have always been the most popular because England was the original first league but the Premier League was when English football began to monetise their popularity. English football used to be poorest league in Western Europe due to two factors the maximum wage that lasted until the 1970s and the TV contract used to be shared evenly between the four professional divisions. So Man Utd used to earn the same amount of money from TV as Wrexham until 1991. The maximum wage meant everyone was on the same low wage. And this meant best players moved abroad for higher salaries but it also meant star players stayed at their local clubs, because there was no real better financial reward for playing for another team. This mean England never had a super club like Real Madrid who dominated by getting all the best players for a century and many teams had periods of success based on the local talent they had, which is why all English teams have big local fanbase. English teams were poor all the way to 1990s because they had to share the TV money with 92 professional clubs. The Premier League creation in 1992 was the first time English top league clubs were getting more money TV and the rest is history

26:16 I think it's important to address the dishonesty in media sometimes. For both Chelsea and Man City, the content creator referenced ownership bringing in more money to get the club to the top. Whilst also talking about how GREAT Liverpool was with their new manager. I mean, he just won the second division and then a few years later went on to dominate English football. Such genius. There's such a dichotomy, it's light and day. What they don't mention in this video is that Liverpool had the most money spent out of any football club in the world.... From the second division. Imagine right now that West Brom in the championship outspent Real Madrid, Man City, Arsenal, etc. That is the LITERAL equivalent. They also do not mention that Arsenal paid their way into the first division and that the first ever club to be found guilty of illegal payments in English football was... Arsenal. Man United won 0 trophies under Alex Ferguson until the record take-over by Michael Knighton. After which, Man United went on to dominate English football. If you're not going to mention the dirt on United, Liverpool and Arsenal's names, then neither should you talk about Man City or Chelsea like that. The blatant dishonesty is palpable.

You know nothing about football, before City and Chelsea were bought by billionaires Tottenham were the 4th team in England with most trophies, before the league rebranded to the Premier league in 1992 the FA Cup was more important than the league and Tottenham were the team with most FA Cups with 8. First team to win the league and FA Cup double in the 20th century, First British team to win a European trophy (1963 cup winners cup final 5-1 vs Atleti), First to win 2 european trophies when we won the europa league in 72, which we also won again in 84. A teams thats always competed at the highest level and also inspired cruyff and rinus michels' total football, if you do your research it all birthed within Tottenham and in terms of fans we're one of the biggest in the country.
