This was from the last series. Johnny had become a fan, then let them know he was a fan who'd love to be in the show and they took him up on his offer. One of the most original comedy sketches shows ever. Just a host of many characters who had their own catchphrases and each sketch either involved the character simply saying the catchphrase or there was a brief situation which led them up to saying the catchphrase. Sounds terrible but, once you had seen each character once and knew what to expect from them, it was hilarious. In the very last episode, they very cleverly portrayed each character in a sketch and, when they used their catchphrase, it was very sad or moving for once. Genius.

I remember this sketch very well, how Johnny Depp kept a straight face, I will never know. But what I do know, and I've always maintained this, is that Depp should have been born English. He's done so many films in the English accent and not many American actors can do it the way he has done. I forgot to mention that Depp was actually a big fan of the Fast Show and he wanted to appear on it and that's how that sketch came about.

@noelmajers63692 жыл бұрын
As has been variously pointed out, Johnny Depp was a huge fan of this show and may even have asked to appear in this particular repeating 'Suit You' skit. Paul Whitehouse and Mark Williams turned up the comic intensity to eleven in order to try and wind Depp up but he does incredibly well to keep a straight face almost until the very end. Depp was a real trouper IMHO but I think he also enjoyed every second !

It takes 3-4 episodes to get into the concept of the Fast Show. The premise is having very short, to the point, sketches which have a theme and/or catchphrase. It comes over a bit strange at first but, as another commenter has said, once you get your head around how it works and used to the characters and theme/catchphrase, the scenarios they come up with are brilliant. The show only ran for 3 seasons of 30 minute episodes making only 11 hours of show but what a great 11 hours! There are extras like the series of three 'last ever fast show' episodes where the characters get a chance to shine once more before going out on a poignant or hilarious moment. There are 3 live stage shows which were brilliant also. Definitely worth the time watching. My personal favourites include "Chanel 9" - a foreign tv station (think Mexican TV to a non-Spanish speaking American) where the language is familiar but clearly not English, "Ted and Ralph" - Ted is a groundskeeper for Ralph. Ralph is gay and in love with Ted but is too socially repressed to say it but tries his best.", "Unlucky Alf" - a pensioner who things seem to go wrong for. At the disastrous climax, his catchphrase is 'Oh bugger!', "Monkfish" - a character in various TV shows playing a 1970s/80s tough guy with all the attitudes that go with it, and "Rowley Birkin, QC" - A drunken attorney who tells a story which is largely unintelligible apart from the occasional word of phrase (driving the imagination as to what he's talking about) finishing with a punchline 'I was very, very drunk'. Plus so many more. I think we'd all be interested in hearing who your favourites are after watching them all.

The idea of the Fast show, was Paul (the one on the right of the screen) saw an advert for another comedy series he had co wrote with Harry Enfield, and it was all the best bits. And he said “the show will never be as good as the advert for it”. So he had the idea to make a comedy show, that cut out all the boring bits, and only showed the best bits, the bits that would normally be shown in a trailer.

The Fast Show was sort of spun off from Harry Enfield’s show as prior to a season if it coming out, they’d put together a teaser reel which was basically just the catchphrases from the show. Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson (both long time Enfield collaborators) saw it and thought that would actually be a good format for a sketch show and put together a collection of actors and comedians and created one of the best sketch comedy shows of the 1990’s. Which was nice

The Fast Show was one of the best sketches shows ever made. I don't say this lightly as I love this sort of thing, I say it because the writing was top notch, they had a mixture of styles which allowed a little something for everyone, and they managed to throw some thought provoking stuff into the mix. As always the sad reality is this show could not be made today on most mainstream outlets because it would be considered offensive. Yet we can always rely upon our friendly Eclectic Beard to expose a new audience to this material. I hope you had a most excellent Christmas and New Year.

Also a lot of truth in that American soldier joke., "over paid over sexed and over here" was a saying for a reason, what with all our young men being away or dead, my old man one was of the bastards that was produced from the era. Cant exactly blame me gran, basically no men around and a good looking, you g and very rich (compared to the locals) solider makes a move. Unfortunately for her it meant being kicked of of her very good grammar school and sent to a "school for wayward women", and she couldn't get a job after that.
