Indeed the U.S. does have lime (in certain areas of the country). And it's a bit*ch to get off if you don't use the sqeezy thing after showering. Some builders use "frosted glass to mask the problem 😂

The F sharp is called Fis in Germany. And when you combine it with Che in Guevara's name you get 'Fis' +'Che', which means Fische (plural of fish). Which is what you actually want to catch when fishing.

in the first meme the sheet shows a game of "Stadt Land Fluss" (lit. City - Country - River) which is a popular game students play when they have nothing else to do xD first someone goes silently though the alphabet, another person says "stop". The letter the person was last at, is the letter of the round. now you have to fill in all the categories on the sheet with words starting with that letter. When the first person is finished, everyone has to stop writing. you get zero points for wrong entries and no entries, 5 points if you have the same answer as someone else and 10 points if you have a unique answer. This repeats for all rounds. It's a fun game to also test your knowledge of geography. Sometimes people go do grey area/ borderlining answers, where everyone else is debating if that can count or not. A widely known version of such a grey area term in the game is the "Züchter" (or breeder) for the vocational bracket because you can put any animal name in front and have to use less brain power because it's basically a recycling of the animal category. But if that is done repeatitly, you could also just cross out the vocational bracket entirely because it doesn't bring anything to the table while playing this way. In the meme at "River" the person wrote "KarlLauterbach" which is germanys health minister but his last name translates to "loud creek". This obviously doesn't count, which is also why the annoyed look of the other person fits that well xD

Kombi is actually what Americans would refer to as a Station Wagon since on the autobahn its not the Supercars who try to get past you all the time but the Kombis with the Office Workers going to work or the Mum with her 3 Childrens driving them to the next town for school

The thing with "cleaning after showering" is to prevent limescale while the shower is still wet. It's not actual cleaning, just removing the water right after showering.

Exactly. That's why I have easy-care shower-curtains instead of glass doors. But the mounting and tiling can get chalk aka calcium carbonate too, so wiping the drops down shortly after showering is better then to have to descale them at the end.

Interesting historical facts In the Middle Ages in Flanders Ghent (now Belgium) there was a profession of collecting urine. The urine was then used to extract ammonia, which was used to make saltpeter for gunpowder. In the mornings, the collectors drove around town with a barrel and paid money for the urine. Regarding the shower cleaning: We don't fully clean it, we just wipe down the water droplets and condensation. Doing so helps prevent limescale and also helps dry the shower more quickly, reducing the risk of mold.

I live in a basement apartment and have very much spiders and (what the hell means Weberknecht in English? ) in my rooms. After the first few weeks I stopped to take out the spiders or even kill them. They always come back. Technically Weberknechte are not spiders. But the Zitterspinne (daddy long legs) which is a teue spider is often mistaken for a Weberknecht. If it can make a net it is not a Weberknecht, since they do not produce silk.

"Stadt - Land - Fluss" is a game where you have to fill words starting with a given letter in different categories in a given time frame. I think in English it is known as "Categories". Karstadt however is no city (Stadt), but a an older department store brand. Kaufland is another department store (by the same owner as Lidl). And Karl Lauterbach is the name of the current minister of health, not a river (Bach however means rivulet or creek). So those would get no points at all. Zuffenhausen is the home of Porsche. And a "Kombi" is called a station wagon in the US afaik. 14:44 ChatGPT was a little bit wrong here (as mostly). The note is called "fis" and combined with "che" it gives "fische" = fishes. 15:15 Heineken (a Dutch brand owned by AnheuserBusch in Belgium, also owning the US Budweiser brand) is not very popular in Germany, because it is mass produced and tastes like it.

The reason some memes are not translated very well ist because of the most important rule on german reddit: Everything must be written in german, even english words like wallstreet (mauerstrasse), posting (pfostieren) or cancel culture (Abbruchkultur). Some of these neologisms don't translate back and only make sense as new found german terms

They got to international infamy and closed down because of that awful Gollum game, but this earlier game by them was an absolute masterpiece, one of my favourite game series of all time. Also Heineken in their show-production in Amsterdam relatively proudly proclaims that they use a yeast based on Louis Pasteur theories (whom as a French in the 19th century hated "the Germans") and Feltman's experience of some brewing congresses in Munich (among others) to develop the Heineken A-yeast and the Heineken D-yeast ... basically Heineken is a Dutch beer made from French, English and German know-how, in my opinion that's why it taste so watered down; no real hops or grain notes ... an industry product with no soul or roots ^^

The "Western World™" isn't something to say "people do xyz", because many people won't do it and many people in the rest of the world would still do it too. US Americans LOVE to point out how different their states are from one another, yet they have no issues to constantly treat a whole continent (with dozens of countries, languages, thousands of years of history etc) like it has one culture. It's fine for some things. But for most it just makes you guys look a bit dumb.

Looking at the special paint at Gelsenkirchen, that reminds me of the old Guildhouse in my home town of Bremen. It's an old building from the 17th century that once happened to be the place where the business owners and craftsmen would come together and often celebrate large parties. Because many of them would get drunk and urinate against the columns next to the main entrance after leaving, they finally installed so-called "Pinkelpilze" (pee mushrooms) which are cone-shaped plates attached to the columns at knee-level that would cause your urine to flow back onto your pants and shoes which proved to be pretty effective.

Then they have to write down a town, a country and a river with the letter "K" as quick as they can. The fastest player with all correct answers wins. To make it a bit harder You can add more categories like "animal, profession …". The first meme refers to a group game where you have agreed on certain categories - like town, river, country, animal... - and someone says a letter and everyone needs to come up with a thing in each category starting with that letter. Now for town (Stadt) he has Karstadt, which is a German department store chain. For country (Land) it's Kaufland, which is a supermarket chain. River he got Karllauterbach - not a real creek (Bach) but the name of the current Health Secretary. Animal he got cat (Katze) - pretty obvious answer but at least correct - but for profession he put in "cat breeder" and that's just lazy.

Donald Trump is a true descendant of _Zoppo Trump dem Starken._ This is only understood by older Germans who watched _Kleiner König Kalle Wirsch_ played the by puppet theater _Augsburger Puppenkiste._ (Kleiner König = little king). You can find all 4 episodes on KZbin. The channel is "Tele64 - damals & heute". They are in German with automated German subtitles. You can, however, take the transcript and translate it using the online translator of your choice. I find it impressing that, in the 1960s, with _Zoppo Trump the Strong_ they already foresaw the last name and character of a future POTUS. The only thing they missed is the color of his hair.

The landlord thing is a bit... I don't know. Its actually pretty complicated to get more rent. Its highly regulated when, why and how much you can do. Also, rents that you COULD charge HAVE gotten a lot higher, so much so that some landlords offer you quite a bit of money if you agree to move out. Those kids are basically torn between their parents having 'assimilated' into german life, but at the same time there is this whole (internet driven) trend of 'men having to be manly and not taking anything'. In those communities the projection of a strong image is very important. IMO, the whole thinking is antiquated, but ofc it is easy to control 'lost' teenagers with this stuff. Problem: the far right uses/will use this to fire the flames of naziism even more. I think the problems are far more structural than many people want to acknowledge.

Welcome to another episode of Memes you only get, when you are German. The first meme is from the popular game 'city, country, river', where you have to name words that start with a given letter to given categories, like river, city, job, famous person or whatever you set in the rules beforehand. There is a time limit and in the end you compare you words for points. For example the rules could be, that you get 0 points for no word, 10 for a word that also an other person has 30 for unique words and 50, if no other person has a word in that category. The joke here is that Karl Lauterbach is not a small river (Bach) but the name of the German health minister. Also it is despised to use similar words in different categories, like cat as animal and catbreeder as profession.

1:40 what Trump says makes somewhat sense. Deaths by cases indicate how effective the health system is in preventing death. Death by population can be misleading and skewed, because the amount of people who get infected in the first place could be abnormally high or low depending on many things. i.e. in a sparsely populated country, fewer people will infect each other.

The first meme was about the game 'Categories'. So, town, country, river, animal, profession. For town he entered Karstadt, which is a company like Wal-Mart. It is supposed to be funny, because the stadt in Karstadt means town. Next is Kaufland, which is again something like Wal-Mart. River: Karllauterbach, that would be our minister of health. Karl Lauterbach. Bach means creek, so it is a river in all measures. It's supposed to make him look like a giant toddler with no brains and tendencies to cheat.

We say America because saying US in english sounds weird in a German sentence and isn't understood by everyone. Saying it in German doesn't make much sense because the German translation results in different short letters and also nobody gets it. United States translates to Vereinigte Staaten, which is understood by everyone but its painfully long so people just say America because it's quicker and easier.

The Maggot thing is from a German ( but there language options) game called Deponia ..4.. I think. Not sure which number. There all great and tell really well wirrte story. But yeah that maggot.. well let's say you serve someone a white sausages after that scene. The picture for the next meme comes from Deponia 1. It show the main characters ex girlfriend, and let's say you can see where she is coming from. But the writing is really great, it's all part of the charm. I's also deeper and more intelligente than the 2 meme make it seem. I high recommended this game.

Trump is so embarrassing. OK, some of our politicians are embarrassing as well. But this guy... By the way: I *never* say America for the US. I usually say "Vereinigten Staaten" ("United States") or "USA". America for me means the entire continent from Canada to Chile. To understand the train meme, one must know that there is a high-speed railway line (190 mph) between Frankfurt Airport and Cologne. It takes around 60 minutes. In case of emergency or ongoing construction works, the traditional line is way slower and it almost takes around 130 minutes for the same distance.

Glühstäbchen is colloquial German for a f!ckin cigarette dude ! It literally is translated as a glowing piece of stick ! And a Kombi isn't an old VW camper , it means a station wagon or estate as we call them here in Europe . And no it ain't no Chevy Chase "National Lampoon's' Vacation station wagon it's a full blown big usable big space car for the whole family without the stupid wood panels on the outside!

Amaricans don't know the videogames "deponia". I mean I should be aware of that because it's made in germany but still it's still shocking. Some of the memes, like the maggot meme were references to these games.
