That strange-seeming restriction in the road at 16:24 is designed to "calm traffic" in an otherwise-tricky part of the road. Traffic going our way (see the large, white, ahead-arrow on the blue sign) has right of way over traffic coming the other way - and they are required to wait (yield) if they see us coming. These are fairly common around UK roads, especially in urban areas where cars previously tended to drive a little too fast. We have a pair of these in my home town.
@zeppelinshy11 күн бұрын
Don't take this the wrong way, its just to inform anyone who may not know. But in the UK the only time someone would have "right of way" is either (closest to what you mean here) right of access example being right of access to go over the pavement to get onto your driveway or the "right of way" is only for pedestrianised traffic such as foot paths that cut over private property, this usually because of some multi hundred year old rule that was put in place and next to impossible to remove as its deemed as exact per wording "Right". In the UK with what people refer to as (and for this clip) "right of way" is actually defined as "priority". So, '2 way traffic, priority over oncoming traffic'. If a collision was to occur it would be shared responsibility. Every situation is different and its up to insurance companies to decide at the end of the day if a collision was to occur, unless other factors such as 'dangerous speeds' either 'excess of the limit' or 'excessive speed for the current road conditions', although they may be under the 'speed limit' example very wet low visibility conditions. Otherwise by what it looks like in this example/clip it would be shared if a collision was to occur. As it is "priority" and not "right of way". Priority is 'you should' and Right of Way is 'you must provide access'. Thats the legal bit between "Should" and "Must". Again only to inform as most people are unaware and think it is 'right of way' and are shocked and upset when their insurance would say shared responsibility at x:x percentage of fault. Another "Right of Access" rule I believe was you cant block people in their driveway but you can block them out by parking across their dipped curb unless the road has some other form of parking restriction that may not allow any parking or restrict it like permit holders only.

You're wrong I'm afraid mate. In a normal 2-lane roundabout (with 4 exits front-back left-right for example), the outside lane is for left or straight on, and the inside lane is for going further. If you're taking third exit, you go into the inside lane, and then switch into outside lane after the second exit. Obviously if it's not clear you can't but that's what ur meant to do. You're not supposed to cut across from the inside line into a turning, you should only turn off a roundabout from the outside. Taxi is still in the wrong as they didn't check mirrors tho

Of course, you're very unlikely to come across an ideal four-axis roundabout; there are spirals and arrows and lanes and dividers and mergers. From what I can see, most people seem to work out appropriate behaviour organically. Regardless, you shouldn't change lanes without checking what's behind you. 16:00 That's something called a "Traffic calming measure", it forces you to slow down because vehicles in both directions use the same lane. In this case, the sign says the driver has the right of way, and oncoming traffic MUST yield to you. The fenced in area on the left is most likely some kind of school, and this is at the exit of the section that has the school entrance. It's also as a means to make sure cars trying to leave the area get priority over cars entering. 16:55 ALL crossings in the UK have those lines leading up to them, it's basically a "no parking under any circumstances" marking, similar to double yellow lines, but those have some rare exceptions.

The squiggly lines in the road show you are approaching a pedestrian crossing (crosswalk). It is illegal to park on these. The taxi driver was trying to change lanes when the road marking meant he could not. The road arrows indicate you must stay in the lane. You will notice we don't need left turn arrows at junctions as you can just turn straight into them, as in the US you can usually turn right in the same way, because it is the normal side to drive on. There may be accidents at roundabouts because people fail to yield, but there would be many more if you just had junctions without any controls or yield signs. That is why the UK has so many roundabouts, because they are safer, if you follow the rules. Notice the woman with children & the bike must have been crossing against a red light. She continued to cross even after the car almost hit her child, when she should have waited. Apologising to the driver who nearly hit her son was not good enough, after putting him in danger. Taxi drivers are sometimes notorious for taking chances to get their fares where they are going, so they can get the next passenger.

In the UK, "squiggly lines" on the road, typically white zigzag lines, indicate the approach to a pedestrian crossing, meaning drivers must not park or stop in that area to ensure clear visibility for pedestrians crossing the road; essentially, it's a "no stopping zone" around the crossing.

Further down the road is a blind bend and a large patch of grass where kids play football is right next to it. My friend's son broke his leg when he got hit by a car there and his friend almost got hit by me on two separate occasions. The give way where there was no actual junction is a traffic calming measure, and they are most commonly found on down graded roads. Often where the road is/was a main route somewhere but due to an increase in the number of houses or the volume of traffic, or just because a bypass pass has been put in, that road has been changed to a 30 or 20. The zig zag white or yellow lines edging a lane are found where you are only supposed to stop when required, to give way to pedestrians or becaue of traffic lights. Basicly they don't want vehicles pulling over in a place where they are a sight hazzard for overtaking vehicles in a place where pedestrians are frequently crossing the road.

Taxi drivers over here are generally known to be daredevils, speeders and inconsiderate. (Obviously not all taxi drivers.) They are often responsible for those heart-in-throat moments on the road.

The sign giving priority over oncoming traffic is to slow the traffic down. The council is always trying to come up with ways to get people to kill their speed. As for roundabouts, people know what to do you just get some pushy bullies out there trying to push their way in. Like you said they don't know how to yield! 😂

Hiya JT, when you said "I would report that taxi driver for doing a stupid thing", allot of taxi drivers work for themselves, so their self employed, this is Choppy

16:10 Its give way, so if you have a white arrow, you have priority...a lot of people dont know this..and the zig zag lines are to stop cars parking near a zebra crossing.

I get told by anyone in my car that I'm a good driver (I can drive anywhere, busy traffic, around London, abroad on the opposite side of the road no bother) but my friend said she is such a bad driver that she decided that she shouldn't even be on the roads so sold her car and gave up 😂😂😂❤

Honestly good for her. So many ppl let their pride get in the way or are just blissfully unaware that they're a danger to themselves and everyone around them. Some ppl just aren't wired to handle driving just like ppl who don't have a voice for singing. No shame in that 😊

From my over 20 year's of driving, the 2 types of drivers that annoy me the most and seem to not care about other road user's and either don't seem to pay attention or just ignore signs and everything/everyone around them are taxi drivers and women drivers.

Taxi drivers can be crazy. I've feared for my life in more than one taxi ride.

The taxi around 8:25 ... I'm gonna have to disagree a bit. I think, firstly, dashcams often don't give true perspective, they can distort distance, I feel like the gap wasn't as big as you think it was. I'd also point out, yes, ideally if the guys indicating you'd let them in to be courteous, that doesn't mean that you, as the driver hoping to switch lane, should assume the cars in the lane you want to move to WILL be courteous, wait till they let you in. The taxi driver to me has screwed up by getting in the wrong lane in the first place, and is then just trying to muscle their way into fixing their mistake, without showing any courtesy to anyone else.

Notice how everyone goes right for the brakes instead of the horn first and no one has any major wrecks because of it :)
