@kathybouziane5269 Mmmmmm...BBQ...😋😋😋 I did pizza lasagna the week before Christmas. It's lasagna but made without ricotta using mozzarella, provolone, Asiago, Romano, parmesan and a tiny bit of cheddar. Then in the layers...layer in pizza toppings like ground beef, sausage, mushrooms, canadian bacon, green pepper, olives, onion, salami...and/or whatever pizza toppings you prefer. It's pretty awesome.

Merry Christmas everyone! Americans are definitely often into Christmas cookies, but one significant part of this custom is the Christmas cookie swap where you bake a large number of cookies (sometimes different kinds of cookies), to eat at home and also to give to family members, friends and neighbors. In return, the family members, friends and neighbors give you tins of their own homemade cookies. It's a really warm, nice-spirited part of the Christmas season.

@sharonmulloy2181 I usually toss them with some olive oil, seasoning and roast them. I do like them raw, I steam them in the microwave sometimes. Steaming is the healthier option (more nutrients) but I've never boiled them. Not sure if I would like them soggy.

Cards are big with extended family and distant friends that you wouldn't see on Christmas. Often, there is a letter inside with all the positives and negatives of the previous year, just to keep you updated ("son graduated high school!" or "Uncle Joe was diagnosed with cancer and is receiving treatment so please keep him in your prayers"). A more current type of card isn't the usual "Winter scene" card with a blank interior for writing. Instead, families take a Christmas Picture earlier in the year, and send out a post card with the picture of the family on one side, and a little note on the other.

Hello! I live in Northern California in a small mountain town called Cool. Christmas was yesterday, but we have some kids here in California and some in Oregon and 1 in Iowa (mid west). So we are celebrating Christmas here with our kids in mid January. Some had to work today, so Jan is easier. We will have Ribeye roast (prime rib), mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, some kind of vegetables like broccoli or green beans, and corn. I will make strawberry, blueberry, and cherry pies. But, December 25th is also our youngest daughter’s birthday. So, yesterday was all about her. She wanted ribeye steak 🥩, stir fry broccoli 🥦, shrimp 🍤 cocktails, dirty red garlic mashed potatoes, crab 🦀, and birthday cake. There was also a banana cream pie and a razzleberry ( raspberry, blueberry and sometimes blackberry) pie, but we were too full! I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

In the 1800s, and maybe earlier, Merry was a term for drinking and getting tipsy or drunk, especially in reference to the Christmas season. In an effort to discourage holiday drinking and drunkenness, the religious communities encouraged the use of Happy in place of Merry in an effort to encourage people to think of Jesus as opposed to a time to get drunk. The change stuck in England but was never adopted in the US. I dont know if it succeeded in limiting the amount of alcohol consumption during the holidays or not. Just some useless trivia for those interested. Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May this holiday season and new year be a blessed one for all.😊❤🎉 much love from East Tennessee USA

Christmas most people have ham and maybe a small turkey, Tomorrow since I will be spending Christmas alone like I do every year.. I'm having ham.. mashed pots and gravy.. green beans with mushrooms and bacon.. baked beans and dinner rolls and for dessert.. my inner child will get to come out and enjoy chocolate pie with meringue on top. Growing up in my family Christmas location varied because we often lived 6hrs+ drive from our extended family so we swapped whose houses we went to for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But we did the same traditions on Christmas either way. Christmas Eve was more like small appetizers and finger foods. Open 1 present, nothing big. Christmas morning we woke up and got our stockings which were full of little trinkets, small gifts loke nail polish, chapstick, whatever, and lots of candy but we weren't allowed to have candy until after breakfast. So then we'd have breakfast, hashbrown casserole and orange cinnamon rolls. Then it was time to open our actual presents.

I think the Christmas dinner depends on where you live (Texas) and if it's a big Christmas gathering or not. We just had hotwings, potato salad, and fruit salad today. But yesterday was a big gathering with smoked turkey, ham, green beans, corn dressing potato salad fruit salad & regular salad, then dessert was a choice of key lime pie or cherry crumble.

Sherry is a fortified wine. It originally came from Jerez, Spain, where it was long produced. Now it's pretty much world-wide. It's mostly used in cooking.

Sherry with frui cake is smashing (or with figgy pudding). My sister prefers Harvey's Bristol Creme.

My family has never had a set christmas dinner tradition, we kinda just do whatever we want. This year we're doing a smoked brisket. Yum.

My family doesn’t bake our turkey, we fry it, outdoors in a large, deep pan over an outdoor gas burner/stand.

If we’re doing Christmas decoration outside, we don’t do that until late early early November or October if we don’t have that big

13:14 in the US it became a social/political issue. There are 14 different holidays during this time period. So to be all inclusive they came up with Happy Holidays. Because there is no way of knowing which holiday a person recognizes.

Like Kawanza or Hanukkah. Both are celebrated by different cultures but still bring meaning. Now it makes me wonder if Swedish descents celebrate St. Lucia Day.

@AC-ni4gt I've never taken issue with any of the greetings I'm just happy someone shared a greeting. But so many take great offense if you say one and it's not their Holiday. Sometimes I take cues from what they are wearing mostly I will say happy holidays but if I'm greeted by a specific greeting I return it in kind.

@@jodyjody1612and a lot won't take offense, but correct you anyways but it also depends on location, too. some areas care more than others.

We’re Italian American. Christmas Eve dinner is called the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Yes, seven types of fish all in one meal. One Christmas Day we eat lasagna but my family also makes prime rib.

Hey. You gotta see how people here in the US decorate their homes with the lights and set them to music. I think you did the ones from Halloween. The ones where the people go crazy with the outdoor decorations and set them to the music. Gotta see the ones who do it for Christmas. Just as well done as the ones for Halloween. It's insane.

No, while I'm sure it happens in some homes, Christmas Crackers are not a thing in the US. Cards in the US can vary in price for sure but you can get an inexpensive box of Christmas cards for $3 for a box of 30. Other single cards can be as cheap as $1. Postage in the US keeps going up so that deters some people from sending cards. I didn't send any this year or last year but I will for next year. Merry Christmas, Lewis! I hope you and your family have a fabulous day!!

Merry Christmas everyone and to Lewis and your Mum from NY🎄🙂 I usually make Chicken Parm for Christmas Eve which I have today and Christmas Day my sister makes either Turkey or for this year prime Rib. Hope you all enjoy your holiday dinners 😁
