Oh. It’s not the fact that Meghan Markle had mental difficulties that was the issue. It was the fact that she was claiming nobody was able to provide her with help, despite the fact that her Prince husband was the royal patron of multiple mental health charities at the time. Piers Morgan was calling her out on that and asking why her own husband wasn’t able to get her the help she needed. The voiceover of the video missed out that bit

I was waiting for the Julian Clary joke. It was shocking and hilarious! Clary is a genius of the double entendre. I don't think I have ever laughed so much at another comedian. His appearance on QI telling of his story about when he met the queen had the other comedians in tears. I remember him saying to a very camp, supposedly straight, man on a panel show that he'd 'like to share a bottle' with him later. Only Clary could make that line that funny. Love him!

All down to marketing - she's obviously a competent singer but no better a singer than ,many in the chorus-lines of broadway shows in London. Her relative talent didn't warrant the global sales (although I'm happy for her benefitting and living her dream) but THE STORY sold the records (the show enabled someone without traditional good looks to be heard singer on TV which has become rarer and rarer these days when (wrongly) image is 90% of executives' decisions). A similar thing happened with a man called Paul Potts - it's selling the story of the person next door being able to make it, which is obviously very appealing to the average man in the street - that's why the show lays it on so thick with the back stories.

The thing with Pop Idol: this was early in the days of reality TV; people auditioned in front of the judges with no-one else in the room and no backing track. Gareth Gates, who ultimately came second, took about 20 seconds to say his name, because he had not at that point conquered his stammer. And obviously, it was freaking brave for him to go for it, knowing that his speech impediment wasn't going to give him a day off for an audition. And then he sang - brilliantly. When that was aired, he got a hell of a lot of viewers (I was one of them) in his corner. They both went on to be majorly successful, btw, and I believe are good friends to this day :-)

re: Pop Idol voting - I was a pre-teen at the time, I remember watching the final at my cousin's house and we tried to vote for Gareth about 15 times and every single time the call didn't get through. We were so curious if the line was just busy or there was some kind of issue with it, so we called the number to vote for Will and it immediately went through. Ever since that day, I haven't trusted reality tv votes.

Yes, Gareth Gates was hot favourite to win Pop Idol, and was exactly the sort of bland, moldable figure the producers wanted. However, the audience's judgement was borne out as Will Young went on to have 8 top-3 albums and 11 top-10 singles. Gates had only 1 top-10 album, though to be fair to him, he did have 4 number one singles, the same total as Young, but one of those was a charity record, and one was a duet with Young!

Sherlock Holmes was killed off by plunging down the Reichenbach Falls whilst fighting with his arch enemy Moriarty in 1893. There were also people quitting their jobs completely and quitting their posts at the Palace at the same time as this so they didn't have be around Megan because of how demanding she was. Also rumoured to have verbally abused staff if she didn't get her way. So when pointing one finger, three are pointing back at yourself thing. And race thing only really came about when she became pregnant and the family members talking about what the baby might look like, hair colour, facial features and skin colour (just like any family would). Also BLM was a thing at the time, so it doesn't take a genius to figure out what she was probably doing.

The Pop Idol moment was on here because Gareth Gates (the one in white) had a sob story - a speech impediment, and was very young. Will Young (in black) was openly gay and stood his corner arguing with Simon Cowell. We were all meamt to vote for Gates but the Young won he had a much more distinctive voice and hes had quite a long career as a singer and actor. Julian Clary's comment was the funniest thing that ever happened on live TV. Still cracks me up. The right wing papers went nuts and he was not on TV for a few years afterwards. Now everyone has calmed down he is a regular on comedy panel shows and has become a bit of a subversive national treasure. He writes novels too. Very talented man.

Sherlock; maybe i watched it after this video youre watching was uploaded to youtube, but the fall was explained in the next series, he dropped a body from the morgue that looked like him off the building then had a group of people who were in on it prevent watson from getting close to the body before it could be switched with him playing dead with makeup and fake blood

Will Young winning Pop Idol only shocked Simon Cowell and Gareth Gates

Pop Idol was controversial because nearly everyone thought that Gareth was going to win. Simon desperately wanted him to win (saw £££ for his marketability as someone teen girls would love). Will won, and I think there's a shot of Simon looking a bit pissed off so I don't think there was much producer influence with that result as it would have been Gareth that won if so. Also, during the heats for the show, Will stood up to Simon when Simon criticised his performance, that made Will stand out a lot and I think a lot of people actually then took notice of Will when they hadn't previously (they liked that he wouldn’t just roll over for Simon 😂)

Sherlock being on this list is strange. The rest is real life moments.

Thanks for that....I`d just come home from a bit of a crap day but just had a huge and unexpected laugh when you described Susan Boyle as " an unfortunate looking person"......just sounded a very British thing to say....watching all these vids it`s starting to rub off on you!

Regarding Julian Clary's joke - the UK was still very homophobic in the early 90s. There were still laws banning government organisations (including schools) from portraying homosexuality as being acceptable.

Random comments: Singing off-key due to P.A failure is an occupational hazard - but some famous people seem more prone to it than others (yeah, that means you Siouxsie Sioux...or Excession: remember "Yasmin comes out as bitonal!"). / If it wasn't the nose it was the teeth - or did she have strawberry jam tarts in her hair?
