Oh dear, you've gone and made the silliest comment one could whilst reacting to Aussie Rules. Sweetheart, sit down, be quiet and enjoy the show. These guys are ELITE. Let me know when you can run 10 miles, whilst being attacked from all sides. Let us all know when you can jump over six feet in the air against another five 200lb monsters who also want the Ball. Let us know when you reckon you are ready to be "one of the best players" and we'll get you a try out. Only joking, so glad you are enjoying our amazing Game.

I liked the bit where you told us how you think you'd go at playing this game. That's quality content right there!

I think what most Americans fail to understand is you can't make a team (of any level) just by being good at one aspect. If you think you got what it takes, try kicking a ball 50 yards with both feet, accurately. Tackle a raging bull to the ground, get run over by a truck then jump straight up and punch the ball forwards 30 yards to a mate. Rinse and repeat continuously for 2hrs ... while running a half marathon....... might get you a try out for an amateur league team 😂

I was at gym. A guy ( most likely a local amateur Aussie rules player) was practising vertical jumps from A STANDING STILL position by adding on platforms to make them higher and higher. He got sooo high that I was gob-smacked at him being able to do so ! It was as if he had springs in his feet ! And it was done seemingly effortlessly. There are videos of amateur teams in the USA and Canada playing footy games. If you react to these you will see that playing, as these teams you are watching, is not as easy as you think (from your comment). The AFL players are ELITE athletes - most playing since they were very little.

My friend! Other sports copied AFL. Our game was codified before all the other sports in 1859. It was designed to keep cricket players fit during the off-season . You have to bounce the ball BEFORE running 15 m. Most players bounce after a few steps to avoid running too far and therefore giving away a free kick to the opposition. Scoreline of 20-10-130 means 20 goals X 6 points each = 120 pts plus 10 behinds, (pts) = total 130 points. (most points win) Feel free to ask me any questions you have . Cheers.

You're really going down an AFL rabbit hole aren't ya. We who live down that rabbit hole bid you welcome, it's a beautiful thing to see the newcomers arrive with a smile on their faces. All you have to do now is pick yourself a team.

Great reaction, champ! Look, you could play. You look like you're in shape, and it really is a game for everyone. But you have to be fit, strong, and athletic. At the elite level, they would be some of the fittest athletes on the planet. It's not just having to cover such a large field (players avg. around 10 mile a game), they have to run repeat sprints over and over again. When you go to a game, you realise how massive the field is and how much running they do. Keep it up, mate!

Yeah, whether to award a 'mark' to a player is up to the discretion of the umpire. Basically the umpire decides if the player has had control of the ball and hitting the ground has made the ball bounce out of his hands. Sometimes an umpire can be a bit generous and gets carried away with the excitement of the moment, and awards a mark that perhaps the player did not have complete control of. But what the heck, it's still a wonderfully exciting moment when a player takes a "speccy" (a spectacular mark), At schools all over Australia the boys play "kick to kick". Basically one or two lads lean forward and entice the other boys to do the big run up and jump on to the other one's back in order to take a spectacular mark. It's all staged, but It's a lot of fun.

I'll also just add that the very tall players are sometimes riding on the shoulders of players who are up to seven feet high. It really is spectacular in real life to see big men fly so high.

this bit of fact i found is 2 years old but still relevant There are 762 total players represented by the AFL Players Association. These players play in the 18 AFL clubs. Each of the clubs in the AFL has a squad size of 40 players for a season and are allowed up to 6 rookies. The population of Australia is 25 million making 12.5 million males with 14.4% within the ages of 20 to 30. By pure chance it would be a one chance in 2,362, but obviously you have to be very skilled to play in such an elite football league like the AFL.

In AFL a "mark" is classified when the play has control of the ball, which can happen in the air, and so if the ball bounces out when you hit the ground, it is still a mark.

Every Aussie Rules fan has their favourites. There is no definitive list. But generally everyone would have Moorcroft, Sampi, Smith in their top 5. Walker is slightly overrated for me but is still a classic. I love Burtons v Carl. Enormous height. Since this list we've had Heeney x 2, Bolton, and of course Himmleberg's stratospheric winner last year. God I love hangers.

When you saw Jeremy Howe #38. Not #38 in the countdown but he wears the number 38. When you first saw him you asked us "what would you do?" Well my team got him to play for us, that's what we did. 👍 Now he is our #38. We are the black and white team. ◼️◻️◼️◻️◼️◻️◼️
