This video presents the American Revolutionary War - a conflict between Britain and its colonies, which later became an international war.
Before the flare-up of the American Revolutionary War, there had been growing tensions and conflicts between the British crown and its thirteen colonies. To raise the revenue from colonies, the mother country took many measures, namely the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Acts of 1767 and the Tea Act of 1773. These acts provoked great anger among many colonists, and consequently, a rally was held behind the slogan “no taxation without representation”.
Tensions and skirmishes ran high through many events, namely the Boston Massacre, the Burning of the Gaspee in Rhode Island, and especially the 1773 Boston Tea Party which provoked a crackdown by the British Parliament, including closing Boston harbor and passing some acts to restore order in Massachusetts.
In response to this, in September 1774, many colonial leaders including George Washington of Virginia, John and Samuel Adams of Massachusetts, Patrick Henry of Virginia and John Jay of New York gathered in Philadelphia to discuss the colonies’ opposition to British rule, but this First Continental Congress’s attempt to demand independence from Britain did not go so far.
Tensions flared up on the night of April 18, 1775, when British troops marched to Concord, Massachusetts to seize an arms cache. It is the “shot heard ‘round the world” in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on the next day that kicked off the American Revolutionary War.
In June 1775, Continental Army, with General George Washington as its commander, was formed in the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia. On June 17, American troops were defeated by the British at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. In late winter, the balance of the fight was shifted when British artillery was captured at Fort Ticonderoga in New York.
In March 1776, the British led by General William Howe retreated to Canada to prepare for a major invasion of New York. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted a Declaration of Independence written mainly by Thomas Jefferson. That same month, a large British fleet was sent to New York with the aim to crush the rebellion. Two months later, routed by Howe’s Redcoats on Long Island, Washington’s troops were forced to evacuate from New York City. However, the surprise attack in Trenton and the battle near Princeton, New Jersey after that, marked another small victory for the colonials and revived the flagging hopes of the rebels.
In July, in an attempt to retake Fort Ticonderoga, General John Burgoyne’s troops suffered a devastating loss to the Americans while Howe troops moved southward from New York to confront Washington’s army near the Chesapeake Bay. On September 25, the British entered Philadelphia. On October 4, Washington struck back at Germantown (Maryland) but was compelled to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge.
In the North, the story was different. After being defeated by American forces in the first battle at Freeman’s Farm (New York) and the second one at Bemis Heights (New York), General Burgoyne and his men were forced to surrender on October 17.
Following the American victory in Battle of Saratoga (New York), France and America signed treaties of alliance on February 6, 1778, in which France provided America with troops and warships.
On June 28, 1778, when withdrawing from Philadelphia, Henry Clinton, who replaced Howe to take over British forces, and his troops were attacked by Washington’s army near Monmouth, New Jersey. This battle ended in a draw, letting Clinton’s army get to New York safely. As the joint attack against British in late July failed, France and America besieged Newport, Rhode Island. The war was locked in a stalemate phase in the North.
In the South, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina were occupied by the British in early 1779 and May 1780 respectively. Later, on October 7, American troops led by Isaac Shelby and John Sevier defeated Major Patrick Ferguson and one-third of General Cornwallis's army at King's Mountain.
Following the Battle of Yorktown and Cornwallis’s surrender, the British still had its men stationed in some areas until the removal of their troops from Charleston and Savannah in late 1782.
The war officially ended with the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783, by which Britain recognized American independence, marking the end of the colonial era in the US.

Initially for over a century, the colonies were English and loyal to the crown. When the act of union created the British nation in 1707 I wonder how that created a divergence between the mother country who now identified as a British nationstate and the colonials who still identified as english. With the Mothercountry being British could it have made the English colonists look toward creating a new identity for themselves. If the act of union had never taken place, and England remained simply The Kingdom of England and its Dominions, I feel that the colonies would have still been loyal as it would have seen itself as the same people.

@@justinklinck6575 your right, it would be stupid for any country to try and invade the USA, nobody would stand a chance. But,, wars ain't fought like that anymore, its done by nuclear subs , or high altitude supersonic bombers . Like the time the USA government asked the British to play war games, they wanted to see if anyone could get through,/ past their latest defence systems. Can't remember the year tbh, 60s or 70s . I think it was 4 out of the 5 British bombers managed to get through and avoid everything and nuke several strategic targets ( virtually) that would have crippled the USA if it was a real war. The US government were so shocked they couldn't believe it they thought there was a malfunction in their system, So they checked everything and a couple of years later they asked the British to try again. Once again the British planes avoided US defences, shot down a couple of US fighters and nuked the USA . The USA government kept it a secret for decades , There are a couple of vids on utube that tell the full story. That's the way it would happen, not by invading.

@@kevwhufc8640 do you have any idea how many top tier aircrafts and n*kes we have now as opposed to back then? Anything Britain could possibly throw at us, we could throw much MUCH more of in return. We have 800+ military bases all over the world bro. If you attempted to attack the heart of the homeland, you can expect your entire island to be a glass floor pretty soon after.. The quality of your training would not be a match for the sheer numbers of fighter jets and bombers that would come your way. To believe otherwise would simply be delusional, the United States military is just too big for you.

@Chad973, you can’t watch a ten minute video about the American Revolution and reasonably expect to pass a test on the topic. The video simplifies things avoiding many of the complexities and much of the politics. How was it that Washington was considered to be the congressional commander for the Army? Where did the weapons that were suspected of being hidden in Lexington and Concord come from? Why did only 13 colonies assemble and revolt? What was going on in Vermont with the governors of NY and NH each chattering towns in that territory? This video doesn’t even discuss the attempted revolt by Army officers against Congress during the war.

I laugh in American as we have the capability to turn the entire United Kingdom into a vacant lot if we really wanted to. Be thankful for our alliance. it's probably one of the only reasons you haven't been invaded by the countries you assisted in b*mbing with us.

@@BlameTheLag are you blind to the fact that our military is literally 10 times larger than yours? And that's only a small percentage of our population... we also have militias and millions of armed citizens. Sorry, but you would get sh*tstomped, and it wouldn't even be close.

Why don't people making these videos about the independence war, NEVER MENTION about HOW much HELP the FRENCH GAVE . They never mention only a part of the British army were involved, Because the majority, the best regiments the best officers in the British army were in different parts of the world, fighting in India, and other countries against the Dutch French and Spanish, among others. Why is that ??? Why do they make out they had only themselves, against the British. Without the French it wouldn't have been a war , just a small, a very small , very short uprising..

Back when we only had 13 colonies and the U.S. was new... of course we were going to need help against a well trained and experienced army... but look at us now. You would be retreating in a day or two if you tried again. Lol

@@justinklinck6575 yes look at you now, from wealthy super power to being skint in less than 100 years. You had all sorts of resources, oil ,wood, gold ,silver etc etc, ..But you blew it all, So you had to go begging for money from red China , Your in debt to China for OVER a $TRILLION DOLLARS ,, THEY now OWN your asses ,,, lolol . I mean all countries have debts, but borrowing from your enemy is tragic and hilarious... We already proved that our tiny island could've nuked you , even when you knew we were coming, We did it again a year later to prove it wasn't a fluke. Lol
