In England there’s a North/South wealth divide. The South is rich, the North is poor. In a game between Arsenal (rich London team) vs Newcastle (poor northern team), the Arsenal fans were waving £5 notes (equivalent of a $5 bill) at the Newcastle fans chanting, “I bet you’ve never seen one of these before!”
@ipkaa5 ай бұрын
the north is not “poor”, there was a wealth divide but we are NOT and never have been “poor”. newcastle has been well known for our port and the money we generated from that put us above sunderland hence our rivalry. you know nothing

Joseph Merrick was born with severe physical deformaties in the victorian era meaning he became a well known "exhibit" at freak shows. His stage name was "The Elephant Man". His story was made into a critically acclaimed film starring John Hurt which lauched the name into British pop culture.

Thanks for this and I have, already, Subscribed. If you looked up an image of Diego Costa, you can see he looks a little wild though not quite Elephantinian.:) That "Que Sera Sera" is cleverer than we think because Liverpool for 25 years was THE team but had not won the Premier League for 30 years and Steve Gerrard was their Captain and the Liverpool fans sang, every week a tribute to Steve Gerrard to the tune of "Que Sera Sera". Sadly, he cost them their first Premiership title by falling over and striker DEMBA BA of Bewcastle scored and Liverpool never, finally, won the Premier League that season so the OPPOSITION fans created that song using Liverpool fans' own tune to mock Gerrard and Liverpool. Brothers YA YA and KOLA Toure both played for Manchester City hence the Subway singing on the platform. Going "on the piss" with Geoegie Best was about the Late Georgie who was known as "The 5th Beatle" and the first real Footballing Media superstar but died from alcoholism hence the fans wanting to re-unite with George in Heaven one day to have a drink.

How the chants start; remember that fans go to bars hours before the game and sing old songs and new ones will catch on there if they are good. So a group will start it in the stadium and more join in. Some of the same songs are sung by fans of every club every game.

you guys do a really good job of understanding the chants. Some really need the background, I have seen in some of your other videos you have obviously looked it up which is great. as others would have said, most chants are to a known tune, the chant will be about something current or historical, again so people know it, or just something funny. There are standed chants, that all clubs will sing, about being easily beaten, fire drill, Adams family tune (although most commentators miss the fact this one is song at Kidderminster harriers hence the "kiddy family" almost nothing is off limits for chants, Jimmy Saville, Adam Johnson, for a different reason John Terry. Then finally I suppose, the on the spot funny chants, a blow up dick being thrown around, flower pots, players that look like voldemort, a steward as Boris Johnson. but there also ones that mean little unless you understand the league structure, we're going down but coming straight back up, a reference to relegation to a lower league and promotion in a year (hopefully) back again. There are a lot of songs and chants that sound wrong, but are done to try and upset and put players off, often, at the end of the game players will clap the opposition fans and they will clap back for the "good sport". There is a video of a lower league keeper getting abuse all game, fat, cry in a minute, it's all your fault etc. But if you get the long enough clip, at the end, he claps the fans who cheer and clap him back. Other songs you wouldn't here are for clubs favourite players. The singer happens in the grounds, in local pubs around the grounds and on the way too and away from grounds (depending on mood lol) My club is a small one, Colchester United, but we all love our clubs through the good and bad and this is a difference as they are based in the communities not franchises.
