American Three-toed Woodpeckers are scarce in Minnesota so having these two rapping on their respective trees was a real treat, having the displaying Male Spruce Grouse below them made it even better.

Well, iv commented on many occasions about the 3toe woodpecker but I never thought you would get to film one up there in Minnesota. Well Martin I was wrong! That video was spectacular and thank you for putting it out there. Only down side is that I can’t ask you have you seen one anymore. It was just a thing I had going there for fun. But the footage of this wonderful bird has more than made up for it. Thanks Marty.

Just something special about hearing a woodpecker in its natural habitat. Like hearing wolves. My favorite is the pileated woodpecker. Years ago we made a nest box and stuffed it with sawdust for them to dig their nest cavity in and had a pair use it for a few years. Very delightful.
