@SergentSarge4 жыл бұрын
@@henrichvonstaufenberg4841 Saying that we have no food culture is a bit excessive. Of course, we do not have as many original meals like they have in France or Mexico, but we do have some specialities (sucre à la crème, chinese paté, fèves au lard, tourtière... ). I do agree that poutine is fast food, but more and more restaurants really take it to the next level and offer a whole new experience. Also, if poutine is considered a cultural meal, it's because poutine originated from there. If you want a "real" poutine, you need to at least come to Canada, where we have cheese curds. P.S. A lot of people who try to make recipe videos don't get it because it's meant to be super greasy and essentially look and taste like heaven for people with hangovers. If it's too classy, it's missing the point. McDonald's poutine is alright. Like you guys said, it's not bad all things considered. But yeah, La Banquise is poutine heaven. The law of poutine states that you can change the fries, you can change the sauce, you can add all the condiments you can think of, but you cannot change the cheese. I have never been to Germany, so I don't know the cheese they use. Poutine cheese is hard to find outside Quebec, but it's not too hard to make at home, so you can make poutine easily enough anywhere in the world, as long as you are motivated enough to make it from base ingredients!

Well done, Mr Brightside :) My wife is from Quebec, and shortly after we got married we went to the waterslides (here in BC). Their snack hut had "poutine" on the menu, so we ordered it. They used NACHO CHEESE FROM A PUMP along with gravy on fries. It was like a horrendous soup. Absolutely terrible.

Canada would be nothing without the Québécois! Square heads have no culture, they've just stole everything from what the Québécois created/invented. The name, national anthem, hockey, maple syrup, the emblems as the beaver, maple leaf, the food as the poutine etc. English Canada is a joke, it's more like a USA 2.0 but a low-end version. I can only assume the poutine here in the west coast will taste differently than those in Montreal because we also use the local sources for ingredients. That being said, I would love to try it in Montreal and learn from it at its birth place. A good, memorable road trip has always fill up unexpected, and a huge plus with a good friend to tag along!

Former Montrealer here . Thanks for the visit. You’re pronouncing Banquise perfectly. La Belle is awesome if you want a poutine within 3 minutes. Nothing wrong with it. McDonalds is good poutine because the cheese curds and the sauce are pretty authentic. It’s only the frozen fries that changes the dish ... but for $5 and on any main corner in the country you can get a poutine fix. Same as in most Burger King and Wendy’s in Canada. Ps) we call the gravy “sauce” in Montreal... not gravy. Thanks for the video. I’m getting poutine tomorrow !!

Hey, you always compare stuff between USA and Canada. How about challenging food that is related to the most Canadian thing ever: our flag! The Maple products! Maple sirup season is coming up in march/April, so let’s go back to Quebec province! And while there, you should also try “luxury poutine” options in Quebec’s province best restaurants, like a 40$ foie gras poutine in a fancy place. You also miss bagels (Montreal is said to have the world’s best), and smoked meat. Other option, possible right on your bother challenge, is simple to compare Dunkin Donuts with Tim hortons.
@TheMightyOdin4 жыл бұрын
That first place looked legit. People waiting in the cold, packed house. Then the second place was a ghost town and I thought it’s not going to be as good. My friend from Montreal took me to her poutine place, I’ll never remember the name, but the poutine came in like a deep container kind of like the kind you get Chinese food in. Round aluminum with the cardboard like lid that you bend the aluminum down on to secure. It was so good.

@katymaloney4 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the whole thing, Poutineville was always underwhelming to me too. Their gravies are just bad. If I'm in a pinch, or on the road, Burger King's poutine actually does it for me. I like the gravy, it's well seasoned. And it's even cheaper than McDonald's.
@foskco874 жыл бұрын
Interesting... I rarely ever go to BK but I do recall randomly trying their poutine once and thinking it was really good for a fast food place. The gravy had a nice tang to it and the fries and cheese were more suitable to poutine. I find the macdonalds and wendy's ones have hard rubbery curds that dont really melt.
@ragnarX44 жыл бұрын

@@erinjoy2376 Chew-Chew's Diner on Carlton at Bleeker in Toronto has Thanksgiving Poutine on their regular menu, and my friend and I tried it last fall. It has real roast turkey, gravy and mozzarella on handcut fries with a side of cranberry sauce. Definitely would've been elevated to the nth degree with stuffing, but it was still really fine. I wasn't able to get to Toronto for T-Day or Christmas, so we made do in between. Totally off topic, but the boys might want to try their home made onion rings. Awesome canuck experience for the American. As for McDs, proof their recipes are made to be addictive as well as super salty. The reason McDonald's poutine tastes good is largely because they have such good fries. McDonald's also did the smart thing and decided not to cheap out on the cheese. When you are in a pinch, McDonald's poutine will more than satisfy you. It isn't a great poutine, but I don't even think McDonald's themselves would claim it is gourmet. It is more of a snack poutine.
