The umpire's signal at 2:54 indicated 4 runs. If the batsman hits it to the boundary he/she scores 4, if it clears the boundary, without bouncing before, it is 6 runs. Other runs are scored by the pair of batsmen running from the batting crease at one end to the other end. The actual pitch which the bowler is bowling is 22 yards long with a wicket at each end; the batting creases are 4 feet in front of the wickets.

The "sticks" are three stumps, which, with two little cross pieces (bails) on top, make a wicket. If the bowler (not a pitcher) hits the wicket the batsman is out 'bowled' and is replaced by another batsmen until the team of 11 has had 10 batsmen out; there is always a pair of batsmen at the wickets so when 10 are out the innings finishes and the fielding side becomes the batting side. Batsmen are also out if caught as in baseball, plus they can be run out by not completing a run before a fielder breaks a wicket. There is also stumped and lbw (leg before wicket) but you you can learn about them a bit later. The bowler is not permitted to 'throw the ball' at the batsman, he/she 'bowls' it, which means with a straight or fairly straight arm which does not 'straighten at the last moment because that is the definition of a throw (try it). Batsmen do not have to run if they hit the ball; they can just defend their wicket while waiting for 'bad balls' to hit for runs, so depending on which format they are playing they can bat for long periods. The other big differences from baseball is that most times the bowler will bounce the ball on the pitch when bowling and the batsmen can score runs 360 degrees around the wicket.

Think of cricket as a game where the batsmen are fully armoured and they have a three to four inch wide piece of wood to defend themselves, the bowler (pitcher) attempts to injure the batsmen with each bowl (pitch) he has six attempts then the bowler from the other end has a go

If I can help your doubt, Pitcher (here Bowler) doesn’t necessarily have only goal as to hit the sticks (here wickets) He can bowl in such a way that Batter(here Batsman) hits it and fielder catches the ball (which results in dismissal of the batsman) Even though Batter(here Batsman) stands infront of sticks(here Wickets) , bowler can ball in such a way where he uses Science of friction and ball path/ trajectory bends (called as Swing) or it can turn its direction after the bounce to confuse batsman. On the other side even though batsman blocks wickets he can’t simply stand and obstruct the ball with his body, bcoz if he does so, umpire will check the ball trajectory and if trajectory shows ball is supposed to hit the wickets if batsman hasn’t obstructed it with his body, then also batsman is given as out. Batsman needs to hit such ball with his bad.

Essentially if you hit it out of the boundary without the ball hitting the ground you score 6, if it hits the ground first it's four. Anything short of that and you score a run for each length the batsmen can run between the wickets without being bowled out.

The only fielder who is allowed to wear gloves is the wicket-keeper (like a catcher) because if he/she didn't it would result in very sore/broken fingers by the end of a long match. The cricket ball is slightly smallert but harder and heavier than a baseball (or is it baseball ball?). The fielders get used to stopping and catching it with bare hands and tend to think that baseball mitts are a bit cissy!

If you block the 'sticks' with your body/legs and the ball hits you in front of them you are out. That rule ( called LBW or leg before wicket) is to stop people doing exactly that.

It's not "cricket is like baseball" - it's baseball is "like" cricket. (see which came first...) Simplified (!) differences: - Two MAJOR differences about batting: 1) it is perfectly ok to NOT hit a ball (there are NO strikes or "balls"); 2) If you hit a ball, you do NOT have to run. - cricket has no "foul ball" hitting zone - everywhere is a fair hit. - the bowler can bounce the ball (which is why the batsman has his bat on the ground, not in the air) - instead of 4 "bases" there are 2. With a batsman always on both. But instead of counting "home runs", count "number of bases (runs)". Additionally, hitting the boundary (the rope around the field) is an automatic 4 runs (and play stops, so the fielder doesnt have to chase the ball any more). Hitting it OVER the boundary on the full is an automatic 6 runs. - Because of the above, batsmen keep playing until they are OUT, not just until they make a run. - The 2 most relatable to baseball "outs" are caught or "run out" (trying to "make a base"). - The 2 other common "outs" are if: 1) the bowler "hits the wicket" (the 3 sticks). So the batsman has to think about protecting them; BUT 2) he can only do it by using his bat, otherwise he is out "Leg Before Wicket (LBW).

The bowler at 5:15 hit the batsman on the leg in front of the wicket. He appealed to the umpire for leg before wicket (lbw); if the umpire decides the ball would have hit the wicket if the batsman's leg had not stopped it, he will give the batsman out (there are other details involved but 'you have to learn to walk before you can run'). That made the bowler very happy because his job is to make run scoring difficult and get batsmen out. Unfortunately in recent times, at the top professional level of cricket, batsmen are allowed a very limited number of decision reviews if they think the umpire might be wrong. On this occasion the ball tracker technology indicated the ball would have gone on to narrowly miss the stumps so the umpire reversed his decision. At most levels of cricket such expensive modern technology is not available so traditionally the umpire's word is final and is not questioned by players even if players suspect he/she was wrong.

Sticks = wickets, wickets consists of 3 stumps (tall sticks) and 2 bails. Bails are smaller sticks that sit across the top of the stumps. Pitcher = bowler.... bowler attempts to knock off the bails or hit stumps. You score by runs. Runs are running from one end of the pitch to the other. You can score 4 runs if the ball hits the side wall on field (getting a 4 or 6 means u dont need to run) and you score 6 runs if u knock it out of the field. You have "overs" which are a set of 6 balls thrown. That will get u started.

A crucial difference between baseball and cricket is that the batsman is a legitimate target in cricket. ie you can bowl AT the batsmen. If he ducks or throws out his bat to protect himself the ball may hit the bat, get caught, and he's out. There's no 'ball' called as in baseball. That's why cricketers are so padded. Believe me, it bloody hurts if your caught on the elbow with a fast delivery.

I can explain It simply dude, 1- two teams with eleven players on each side 2-one team hits the ball with the bat while the other throws and guards the ball first, then the sides change(keep in mind sides change only once) 3-the team hitting the ball hits it to score points, while the other throws and defends the ball, they (teammates) defend the ball from scoring and the pitcher dismisses the eleven players which make up the scoring team 4-the points can be scored by hitting the ball and running to opposite ends (keep in mind unlike baseball,the two hitters change sides ONCE to complete a run or 1 run) once both hitters change sides once, 1 point or 1 run is scored if change sides twice 2 runs/2 points Etc. Points can easily be scored by hitting it over a long distance, if the ball is hit and hits the boundary it's 4 points and if over the boundary without touching the inner boundary it's 6 points 5-players can be dismissed by 5 ways 1-if pitcher throws the ball and the hitter misses it to hit these 3 sticks the hitter is dismissed 2-if if hitter hits the ball and the pitchers teammate catches it in air the hitter is dismissed 3- if ball hits the three sticks during the changing of sides of the hitters and the hitters can't make it back to their original position the hitter is dismissed 4- ball hits the hitters leg in line with the 3 sticks hitter is dismissed 5-ball is caught by wicketkeeper or 3 sticks keeper and he hits the sticks if he(the hitter) is not in line he's dismissed 6-game is simple 1st team scores 200 points 2nd team scores 180 points Result-1st team won by advantage of 20 points

11 players on each team. Flip of a coin decides who bats/fields first, winner chooses. Everyone bats. Batsmen play in pairs, therefore 10 outs (wickets) and the teams swap roles. Batsmen lose their wicket if: The bowler hits the wicket with the ball (3 stump poles with 2 small bales on the top). The ball is caught off the bat (strike) or deflection off the glove. The stumps are struck with the ball when the batsman is out of his "crease" (safe area). The batsman's leg stops the ball from hitting the stumps (Umpire decision and is called LBW - Leg Before Wicket). The team fielding has "specialist" players over and above gifted batsmen. The wicketkeeper who has pads and gloves. He catches every ball not struck by the batsman along with any he can off the bat. Fast and Spin bowlers. They bowl in spells of 6 balls (overs), alternating ends and bowlers. This fact gets lost in many of these explanation videos with Overs.. III /\ /\ III in this direction, Different bowler from each end. Wind, slope, sunlight, pitch damage all change every 6 balls. If a batsman score 1 run off the last ball of an over, the very next ball is from a different bowler, different speed, different spin, different bounce off the pitch, different swing... This can be managed by the Captain on the field. It may be that with an older ball and rough, worn out ground there may be a fast bowler one end and a spin bowler bowling from the other, The batsman have to cope with all these changes... They can bowl right or left handed, from either side of the opposite wicket at alternating speed. The players shine one half of the ball to introduce "swing" (curve ball). alternating when bowling the ball means it could swing either way... - As you can see, the variables are many before even mentioning the bounce. Varying length and direction, and spin direction really keep the batsmen on their toes, particularly as you only have 6 balls to get a rhythm before a new bowler gets the ball. The batsman's job is to protect his wicket, but also to score runs. The team with the most runs wins... If the ball reaches the boundary rope, 4 runs are counted. A home run, counts 6 runs - 1's, 2's and 3's need to be run by both batsmen between their safe areas at each end. Hope this helps a little
@baylessnow2 жыл бұрын
Here's my quick 'laymans' explanation of the rules. The bowler (pitcher) has to knock down any of the 3 big sticks. (stumps) or knock off the 2 little sticks (bails) of the top of them. Then the 'batsman' is out. If the batsman hits the big sticks or knocks the little sticks off himself, he's out. If the ball travels to the outer circle, that's good for 4 runs. If the ball passes over the outer circle without touching the ground, that's 6 automatic runs. If the ball is caught by a fielder, like baseball, before hitting the ground, the batsman is out. If the ball is caught by a fielder or wicket keeper (back stop) and thrown at the sticks and knocks them over before the batsman is back behind the line (the crease) he's out. The bowler/pitcher has 6 attempts of getting the batsman out. When the 6th attempt is done, that's called an 'over'. 6 bowls to 1 over. Then the bowler changes for another one. The batsman or batsmen, 'cos two play at one time, do not stop playing until they are 'out'. All of the players are bowlers, batsman and fielders. No specific players. I hope that's correct.
@jaijishnu5272 жыл бұрын
2:47 that was an appeal of lbw leg before wicket which refers to if bowler has bowled to batsman and he misses it or his bat does make any contact to it if in case the trajectory of the ball hits the stumps/wicket then he is declared out but there is certain conditions like outside leg, umpire's call that depends on field umpire's decision and then drs(decision review system) that is using the technology the third umpire takes the decision not only lbw for run out no ball and certain exclusive things such close call catches whether it is clean catch or not it is complicated like we people do not understand about baseball the rules are tricky and it will take off guard and difficult to comprehend and interpret for a novice. in cricket there are totally 3 umpires one standing in front of stumps from bowlers end second is the leg umpire who is inside the 30 yard circle of the leg side of the batsman depending on whether he is right handed or left handed

The most basic idea is the pitcher throws the ball,none of these are cricket words,he tries to hit the three sticks while the batsman tries to hit that ball to score runs.You can score runs by hitting it along way and getting 4 or 6 or by running to the other sticks from where the pitcher throws the ball.The pitcher either throws the ball quickly or spins it a lot,it is better that the pitch hits the ground before getting to the batsman.The cricket ball is harder than a baseball

Cricket is an older game than baseball - by plenty. Each team has eleven players and take a turn at bat. In this version of the game, each team has 50 overs to bat (an over is a bracket of 6 balls, to be bowled by one bowler). At the end of each 6 balls (each over), a different bowler will bowl from the opposite end. Each bowler can only bowl a maximum of 60 balls (10 overs). Note that the ball cannot be thrown in the same way as a baseball pitcher delivers the ball to a batter, It has to be bowled with a straight arm and there are varying ways that the ball can be used to deceive the batsman - similar to baseball. In baseball there are curve balls, fast balls, change ups and so on. The same is true in cricket, except the ball is bowled into the ground (the pitch), which further complicates how the ball will behave for the batsman. The line around the ground is the boundary. If the batsman clears the boundary on the full, it is 6 runs. If it meets the boundary, but doesn't clear it on the full, it's 4 runs. Other than that, the batsman can run down the mowed strip that they are batting on (the pitch) and with both batters successfully reaching the other end - one run is scored. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Batsman can be given out by being bowled (where the ball hits the wooden stumps behind them), caught off the bat without the ball hitting the ground (same as baseball), being adjudged leg before wicket (where the ball hits the batsman's leg or part of the body with no bat being hit, and the umpire adjudging that the ball would have hit the wicket if not for hitting the batsman's body) or being short of their ground and having the stumps broken by a fieldsman with the ball when attempting to score a run. There are some other means of getting out (but rather than confuse you too much, these are the main means).

The very basics that you need to know about cricket Pitcher = bowler Hitter = batsman Sticks = stumps Bails= 2 small pieces of wood balanced on top of the stumps Wall = boundary Club = bat Wicket = part of the field between the two stumps. The bowler is trying to remove the bails by hitting the stumps to get the batsmen out. The batsman is protecting his stumps whilst trying to score runs between the wicket. If the batsman hits the ball and it bounces or rolls to hit the boundary it is an automatic 4 runs If the batsman hits the ball and it clears the boundary without touching the field before hand it is an automatic 6 runs If a fielder, or the bowler catches the ball inside the boundary before the ball hits the ground the batsman is out There are obviously lots of other bits and bobs like LBWs, Duckworth Lewis… but as I said it’s just a basic explanation of cricket 🏏

It's very hard and heavy then go on you tube and find footage of the body line series in Australia in the early 30s. See Harold larwood bowl and kusten to what the aussie batsmen said. See how larwood bowls. Just watch without saying to much till its finished and then see if it's easy to just stand there. I have no idea why Americans think Cricket is similar to baseball...We in the cricketing world don't think the same way

I mean it does have the basic components that are similar. A bat and a ball.

No way you can figure out how cricket works by watching a highlight video. You have to watch actual matches, listen to commentators and then it's not too difficult to figure out 80% of it. The other 20% is not so easy to figure out. If you can figure out the LBW rules then you'll be on your way. It's kind of like trying to figure out the infield fly rule in baseball.

The pitcher is a bowler needs to hit stumps they don’t want it to hit the wall. Wickets are what is when they get out
