I have been working in this field for 2 decades and it is important to realize that this relationship is in reality very different than what the US public and US politicians think. They still believe the US is the great, leading, most advanced part and the Chinese are the underdeveloped, inept junior partner. Nothing could be further from the truth, not just because of the clinical trial numbers. The capabilities of researchers, the sheer number of extremely qualified students, and the rapid advance of medical and analytical devices not hampered by crazy bureaucracy, all have created and will advance a very capable Chinese biotech industry that could leave the US and other G7 countries in the dust. Bigger picture this will lead to a situation where Chinese researcher and companies will ultimately offer cures and solutions and the rest of the world will not make it a political issue if it removes ailments from the public. That's why both the biotech ban and the TikToc ban are foolish. If you like to dive deeper I recommend the book by Walter Isaacson: The Code Breaker.

Chinese physical scientists and engineers have a huge impact on US tech but, due to politics, they're not coming here anymore. Neither are the medical and biotech scientists.

Another company affected by the BioSecurity Act is Wuxi Biologics, which is the second largest Biotechnology CDMO in the world. More than 50% of its revenue is from US pharmaceutical companies. They allow Wuxi to develop their new drugs while keeping the intellectual property rights. This new bill will do damage and set back these US pharmaceutical companies.

While the US continues to crash collaboration with China, Russia is picking up the ball and collaborating with China. Some things I am aware of: Quantum communications, China's first nuclear ice breaker, exploring for oil and gas in Siberia and the Arctic region, high speed rail between Moscow and Beijing, semiconductors, biotech, metros, auto production, submarine technologies, and nuclear power plants. There are probably more that I am not aware of and the list will continue to rise as Russia and China find meaningful collaboration.
