Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet set in Verona. The line “Can we kiss with poison on our lips?” refers to the 2 lovers kissing at the end of the play when one has taken poison in the belief that the other has died and the other wakes to find them dead so kisses them knowing the poison is on their lips thus committing suicide. The ultimate expression of their love.

"I forbayed it" 🤣 such incredible comedic timing haha. One thing that adds to the powerfulness of this song is the fact that it was made as a tribute of those who were lost to the pandemic at the tragic loss of their family members. When you listen in knowledge of that context I fund it to be one the most emotive songs muse has ever written.
