draft beer from a pub can take 3 forms 1. ( Hladinka ) Level - It is the most common, in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe, the only honest way to draft beer. The result is a full pint of beer with foam on the surface. Each type of beer is recommended to be tapped for a certain number of so-called drafts (for example, Pilsen beer should be tapped for one draft). 2. ( Mlíko ) Milk - There is more foam in a pint than beer after being tapped. It is said to be characterized by a less bitter taste, which makes it more popular with women than with men. In the Czech Republic as well as in German countries, such a taping of beer is considered dishonesty by the tapman. 3. ( Šnyt ) Shnyt - It is characterized by a smaller proportion of beer and a larger proportion of foam. Some taprooms state that a properly tapped pint contains 2 fingers' width of beer, 3 fingers' width of foam, and 1 finger's width of air on top. and yes, I copied it from the Czech version of Wikipedia and ran it through the translator.

To be fair as a Czech I even had to Google what Praga is 😂 Never heard of it before. I found out it should belong to the Litovel brewery which is kind of meh... Alle three of them are lagers. Urquell is a pilsner type of lager. Budvar Original is lager but not a pilser, it is more like a German Helles. Urquell has proper bitterness and a fantastic balance. Budvar brewery decided to make a pilsner beer and came out with Budvar 33, which is for me much better than the Budvar Original.
@darkredvan9 ай бұрын
As a German I love Pilsner Urquell. Pilsner (or short: Pils) is a kind of beer brewed in the same fashion as Pilsner Urquell (which was the first of that kind). Pils (or Pilsner type beers) is the most common one in Germany. Every large (nationwide) brewery has at least one Pils on sale. The main beers you can buy in Germany are Pilsen kind, though other styles are brewed and sold as well. Heavy hopsed ones take some times to get used to. BTW Pilsen kind of beers need to be drunk really cold (and you have to be careful to pour it along the side of the glass - held tilted - and the foam is only half of what you get if just let it run down). Czechvar is a Lager beer in contrast to Pilsner Urquell. The first is a little „softer“, the latter has more bitterness. (Most women do like the softer kind, Pils are not their favorites.) But in the end it is just a matter of taste.
@DecisionPlay9 ай бұрын
My man! Pilsner all the way! Cheers from Czechia🍻
@darkredvan9 ай бұрын
@@DecisionPlay Cheers from Germany! Though I tried different types of beer several times, like Weizen, Kölsch, Alt, Bock, Schwarzbier and several others - I always got back to a Pilsener style one. There are several nice Lagers, but well, in the end they lack a bit. There are so many Pilsener style beers to choose from, good ones and not so good ones. Pilsener Urquell is one of the best, but of course there are many other good ones too. I like the ones that are smooth and light on the tongue, with a light bitterness lingering behind. It is one sign of a good Pils that the bitterness is not too hard or too harsh. 👍
@stanislavsotola99019 ай бұрын
Did you know that Pilsner Urquell is originally a German recipe? The "chef" was invited from Bavaria to brew a beer of the classic Bavarian type. But our soft water and high-quality hops from Žatec made the beer taste completely different and people liked it immediately.

Na zdraví from Czech Republic. Budvar is great beer from Budějovice that has its history. Ownd by state. Samson is also beer from Budějovice with even longer history, that if they'd wanna - they'd might be rightful chalenger for Budweiser stamp to Budvar, if they'd stayed with original recepture, which they don't. Also they are American owned. Pilsner Urquelle - the original Pills is great beer from Plzeň that also has great history. Owned now by some japanese or whatever company, but stayed with original recepture to keep Pilsner Urqurelle you may say quality stamp. Best one is poured one in pub. :) Praga is some licenced export crap made who knows where owned by who knows who. BTW density and amount of fome on quality beer depends on cleannes and temperatire of glass and on temperature of beer. Also on how you pour it - from high or slowly on the glass. How much foam you have on beer also changes its carbonation and taste, therefore we have several different types of pouring in pubs: 1) Hladinka - Level - poured all at once, foam first beer under it - four fingers of beer two fingers of foam. - quite a lot carbonated pour. 2) Nadvakrát - Twice poured with pause - visually almost same as hladinka, less carbonated. 3) Šnyt - small beer in big glass - two fingers of beer, 3 fingers of foam, and on finger empty - again more foam less carbonation. 4) Mlíko - milk - just foam - next to no carbonation - refresher beer 5) Čochtan - just beer with no foam - british pour - highly carbonated - pisswater for us. 6) Řezané - cutted - special mix of dark and light beer one on top of the other - need skilled bartender to make it right. Taste is also about in what container is the beer distributed. My personal favourites are: On tap - Pilsner Urquelle. I do not like it from bottle or can, but it is just made for tap. Form glass bottle - Kozel 10° - My favourite beer to garden party. From aluminium can - Kozel 11° - my second favourite to garden party. From plastic 2l bottle - Březňák. (Crappy beer in general but made for frappy plastic bottles - it is better from plastic than otherwise better beers) - My favourite for trips when you know you cannot keep good quality beer, but you do not want cheap pisswater.

You can indeed drink the foam. In the Czech Republic you can buy something that is called “Mliko” (Milk) in the pub and it’s pretty much 95% foam. It’s definitely a unique experience. Depeneding on the amount of foam it will have a different name when you order it. So from the most foam to the least it’s: Mliko (95% foam) / Snyt (60% foam) / Hladinka (40% foam) / Cochtan (0% foam). Personally I think Hladinka is perfect for me. Here in Poland we like Czech beers quite a lot. I think one that is definitely worth checking out is “Kozel”. Especially the dark one. “Zlaty Bazant” and maybe “Zatecky” are also very good from the ones we have access to here. I’d love to send you guys some beers from Poland but the shipping cost to the US would be like $150 for the courier alone which is a bit too much for me right now :(. And I’m not 100% if it’s even legal to send alcohol. I’d have to read on it. PS. The mancave was AWESOME. And very neat and orderly aswell. Collections like these are usually a big mess. But not here. Respect.

Classic is Duck and dumplings with cabbage. All beers should be cold. Not ice cold but cold. Those another beers, I have no idea what they are. All beers should have a foam cap. If not, you are doing it wrong and it will has too many bubbles inside and those will go out in your stomach. You do not want that. Our most popular beer in the Czech Republic is Pilsner Urquell. It is definitely worth having it fresh and on tap from a bartender who has a certificate for pouring Pilsner. Another thing about the foam, we can serve beer in 4 ways, namely: "Čochtan". Beer on tap with almost no foam. Čochtan is very refreshing and ideal for quenching thirst. "Mlíko" The purpose is to fill the glass to the brim with beer, creamy to creamy foam that is drinkable and full of beer, at first glance resembling a glass of milk. Hence its name. The spell takes effect if drunk immediately after tapping. Beer tapped in this way seems to taste sweeter. "Šnyt" It originated in the days when tapmen tested the quality of beer in the cellars before each new keg was tapped. It's actually a small pint of beer. The beer has a rich foam and at the same time retains all its best qualities. A very popular way of drinking beer for connoisseurs. "Hladinka". The level is a very widespread style of tenoning. It is the simplest and the most gentle on beer. It is a fast way of tapping, where the beer is tapped in one go. In this way, it will retain its unique sharpness and freshness. Beer brewed without foam is considered bland in our country, it is often the case with lagers, which is a less common type of beer that Czechs like to consume. Enjoy it, Cheers. In Czech bars and for bottled beers, the server will often swiftly upend a bottle into the glass and just let it glug until the glass is almost full of froth, then stop pouring. This is NOT sloppy service but quite deliberate! You end up with the beer degassing (making all of that froth) in the glass and not in your stomach. This means that you are actually able to consume more beer, which is great news for the bar owner!

Pilsner is very hoppy. Refreshing bitter taste, especially great in the summertime. Budvar is a more balanced beer, more suitable for average taste. You can also get some beers that are more on the malt side, for those that prefer the malty tastes of beer. People tend to forget that beer is just as varied as wine. You can get various taste profiles in both, all based on your personal taste.

You should come to the Czech Republic and try one draft. There's literally a school for innkeepers on how to pour a beer properly here. The glass is properly cold, beer is poured properly from a tank... It's a completely different experience then from a bottle or a can. EDIT: Also having a foam protects your beer from dirt and debris falling into it. It just lands on the foam. You are supposed to drink your half-litre beer in 7 to 15 minutes.

The art is how beer is poured into glasses in Czech pubs. They do it in such a way that the beer is naturally off-gassing, so you can drink 10 pints and not be bloated. Czech pubs (‘hospoda’) are the best place in the world to drink Czech beers :)

Hello. From the window, I am looking at one of the breweries you tested, Budějovický BUDVAR (Czechvar in the USA). I'm not surprised that you like it, it's sweet to our taste and that's why Pilsen is more popular. SAMSON is not so preferred (it is a bit sour), but it has its supporters. I don't know the brand PRAGUE, probably some kind of export. If you want to try the strongest lagers, they are brewed by the Náchod brewery under the names EXKLUZIV 16° (7.5%) and IMPERIAL 21° (9%). Cheers.

@13:54 The Samson Original Czech Lager Bock is a "special beer". The others are pilseners, you can't compare it to a "Bock beer" (original 'invented' in Einbeck, Germany. (Hence the name)).👴😉

The current retail price of the Pilsner Urquell in can which you are holding in your hand is 1.3-1.5 USD in the Czech Republic in 2024. 1.1 USD is usually the sale price (offer) of the chain stores. In Germany, this beer is sometimes offered for 68 cents in a bottle (special offer)😊 It is also good to know that in the Czech Republic the same domestic beers are cheaper in glass bottles than in cans.

Hi IWrocker, I'm from the Czech Republic, Budweis - České Budějovice where Budweiser and Samson are made. The Budweiser is a sweeter lager. They also started making a bitter version which is called simply "33", because it is 33 on the IBU biterness scale. Samson is very good, but you should get the regular export lager, not the Bock. The bock is too strong and very specific in taste. And finally the Pilsner Urquell - the first lager beer ever made on planet Earth. It's the best Czech beery, the most premium and the most expensive one. And it's probably the only beerI that is wildly recommended drinking by doctors for it's health benefits. I love it's mild taste, yet bitter and very easy to drink. It's only 4.4% so it actually shouldn't be called a lager, but it got an exception from the state because it is so unique and so known around the world. We have many many more beer. I recommend trying Kozel, Radegast, Gambrinus, Staropramen etc. and we have probably hundreds of smaller breweries that make fantastic local beer without pasterization so it is super fresh. And if you visit Czech Rep., you can get there a special Budweiser from a tank which is called "Kroužek" (Circle). It's very fresh and unique. I really enjoy your passion for Czech cars and Czech beer. Good luck with your channel journey! Cheers🍻

Also, the Samson is is brewed in the same city as the Budweiser, so you better check where it was brewed, because if not there, it's probably some licenced crap and that's why it sucks. Foam is great! In fact when you order Pilsner from the tap, you can have it 3 ways: -Hladinka english level/surface - it full glass poured in one go with one and half inch of foam -Snyt I cant translate that - its about 1/3 of beer and rest is foam, I was told you order it when you want small beer,BUT man never order small beer, so you order snyt :D -Mlieko english milk - its glass of foam from top to bottom And to have Pilsner the right way, they always use cold glass. In many pubs they have special ,,pool,, of cold water where they store beer glass. Here is short vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5W5Yoxmra54aM0, he pours hladinka, mlieko, snyt and something I never heard of.

Foam on beer is for protection of beer taste. So thats why in Czech, tap beer have quiet a big portion of foam.
@WelsyCZ9 ай бұрын
Specifically, the foam (also called the head) prevents oxidation of the beer, which makes the beer taste worse and its not desired. We do not want to be chugging our beers however, so thats why the foam is present. And contrary to belief of many, the foam isnt waste - its also beer. If you pour a proper beer with foam and let it sit until the foam dissipates, the level of beer will go up.
@gustavmeyrink_2.09 ай бұрын
I tried to explain that to a guy in the UK once where a pint glass (568ml) holds exactly 1 pint when filled to the top. He argued that with a head he would get less beer but in Germany (I assume this might be the same in Czech Republic) a beer glass is marked about one fifth of the way down. Up to tat mark it has to be beer and the space above is for the head so you do get exact amount of beer you pay for and the protective head. My dad also taught me that if I order a draft beer in Germany and it arrives in under 5 to 8 minutes I should go and find a better pub.
@WelsyCZ9 ай бұрын
@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 That 5 to 8 minute thing is pretty controversial, its not true in my opinion. Good bartender (výčepní) will know how to pour a proper beer based on the type, brand and desired pour. There are quite a few techniques, some prefer a 1time pour (all in one), some do a 2time pour (one pour, wait for a bit of the head to dissipate and finish it off), some even do a 3time pour. But thats just details and most people outside the beer countries wont even be able to tell the difference.
@gustavmeyrink_2.09 ай бұрын
@@WelsyCZ First pour is always nothing but head which then needs to settle before being topped up a few times until the required amount of beer is in the glass. Needs topping up 3 to 4 times. Never really seen any other way, not even from the 50L keg we had on my 18th unless you create a lot of wastage in the name of speed.

Someone already mentioned it but I will also try to quickly sum um the foam problem. Czech beer is not usually served half-foam, half-beer. Usually we drink it so that maybe one fifth of the glass is foamy. However, the preference may vary with person and mood. Also, you can definitely drink foam in czech beers. Although to have a good foam-beer (mlíko or milk in english), you would need a tap to tap the beer from. Altogether, any beer is much better from tap. That is why Czech people usually drink beer casually from a bottle, but if they want to really have a gourmet experience, they go to a local pub with very clean glasses and pipes and to someone who can pour beer properly. It really changes the taste a lot.
