Man oh man I love your videos! In March, when my husband was furloughed from his job, he decided to do something constructive with all of the time and started to learn Japanese. I agree that the kanji is quite beautiful. For his birthday I bought him a shirt that says " Currently studying Japanese" in kanji. And last month I ordered him a gift box of japanese treats. Wish I had seen this video before I ordered the treats! We are used to a certain level of sweetness to our candy. The Japanese do not see things the same way. Thank you for the entertaining videos! Always a pleasure to watch! Btw, he's still studying Japanese every day, and I've started a separate savings account for a vacation in Japan for our 10th wedding anniversary.

There are actually 3 versions of writing which they use. Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji. The indents on the bottle are actually there to keep the marble from blocking
@SeanShimamoto4 жыл бұрын
Yup, with katakana usually used for non-Japanese words...like my name, which is Irish, it’s written in katakana, which has harder edges. ション. While hiragana and kanji are for Japanese words...like my surname. In hiragana it’s しまもと...but in kanji it’s just 島本 (島 is “island” and 本 is “base or foundation”; 本 can also be “book”, it all depends on context). PS - To be fair, we stole kanji from Chinese. They invented so many things before Europeans, but Europeans get the credit for it. LOL. Like forks, Chinese invented them...and noodles, Chinese made them long before Italians.

Have you ever been to Hawai’i? We have all of those snacks here. But then again, about 1 in 5 people here are Japanese Americans. My family’s been here since 1868 and many of my friends’ families emigrated from Japan between then and 1900 or so. Even our 7-11s are very similar to the ones in Japan and are nothing like the American 7-11s. Hehe. We still have burgers and hotdogs, but we also have spaghetti, pho, tuna hand rolls, dim sum, etc.

The soda name ramune is pronounced as rah-moo-nay or lah-moo-nay in Japanese! They are less carbonated and less sugary than regular sodas. The indent on the side actually holds the marble as you tip the bottle over to sip. You guys need to find Poifull jelly beans! Not as good as Jelly Belly but still fruity!

Japanese people pride themselves on their fruit flavours...they taste like the actual fruits. Even their shaved ice (snow cones) have syrups that are made from actual fruits. You should research their melons!!! Yeah, get your mind out of the gutter! 😜 Kidding aside, their melons can cost over $100 each! But they really are delicious! Cam, since you speak Spanish...Japanese pronounce their vowels exactly the same as in Spanish. Even their different grades and sizes of rice are awesome. I like short grain sushi grade rice the best...Tamaki Gold and Tamanishiki are my favourite brands.

Hi MTV crew. I'm from England & have a little fact for you. The Japanese pop bottle is actually a remake. Those bottles are what the English used to drink there pop from in the 1800s I think (don't quote me though). The kids used smash the necks off them to steal the marble. If you turn it on it's size the marble should move back into the top to stop the pop going flat. X

Japan caters to what they like, if they like a certain way chocolate or wafers are, they stick with it. they don't really make it as westerners do unless it KitKat from what I've tired. A lot of their food, candy, snack and drinks tend to be light in flavors, they don't do a lot of bold and adventurous items unless its a testing phase to see if it sells well. some places do specialize in bold or spicy but for the most part japan likes light and mild tastes with hints of heat. fruits flavors are usually what their known for though. id love to see you do a ramune taste test though, i love them and want to see which ones you guys like.

Bourbon biscuits are named after a former french royal family name of Bourbon and the holes in the biscuit were to allow steam to escape during the cooking to dtop the biscuit cracking, they're everywhere in the UK [we did them in our tea because of course we do] so it's interesting that Japan also likes them.
