Hi America! Your vlogs have been really encouraging to me as I pursue medicine. I just wanted to address the last part of your vlog. I think you underestimate yourself a lot. Remember how you nearly went to PA school because you didn't think you would get in? And you did that before even getting your physics grade, taking your MCAT and after being an A student all of college. You work hard. You have a kind heart. You are a wonderful person. I think you need to see how valuable you are and not be so hard on yourself. It's not the first time you say you're interested in surgery. You can't refuse to explore your interest because you think you are not good enough. You have done research and you are doing well in med school. Now just focus on doing very well on step one. All that plus your experience and grades in your surgery rotation, accompanied with faith and confidence WILL get you to surgery. And you CAN do it. Speak positive words in your life and in your destiny. Words are more powerful than you think. The more you tell yourself you're not good enough, the more you'll believe it and the more likely you'll be to achieve waaayyyy below your capabilities.

Even if your dream isn’t med school, the fact that you keep on going no matter the hard times, makes people compelled towards you and wanting to keep fighting. I personally want med school from the very bottom of my heart, I’ve known it since i can remember. The thing is I’m in my senior year, and next year I’m meant to apply to med school. America, dont get discouraged about feeling lost! I feel as if you’re in a better position than your classmates who feel like know what they want to do. They might be closing themselves off to something better whereas you have a complete open mind to everything! You’re unbiased and that’s a wonderful thing when you are choosing something to do for the rest of your life. I struggle with these same thoughts, as I am extremely indecisive as well. Thank you for being so, so honest. I really appreciate how candid you are with your hopes/desires/anxieties; a lot of premed/med students are rather secretive of their innermost feelings, and really only share their victories with their viewers. Ex. they will internally have a favorite speciality, but will not share it in fear of not getting in. Hey America! I'm also a medical student and I know how you feel about choosing a residency. One thing I've learned though is: you can handle it. You will exceed your expectations. Don't rule out a specialty because of an opinion you have now and don't deny yourself a specialty you could love because you underestimated yourself. Hey America, MS1 here! I’m also wanting to go into surgery, specifically general peds. I completely relate to your fears of being the bottom of the heap in residency, however there are so many programs that all have a “personality” so to speak with some being more malignant in how they train their residents. I think all residencies are going to be tough in their own ways, but if you really feel drawn to surgery, go for it! I have found (in my limited experience) that talking to MS4s who are currently applying to the specialty you’re interested are a great resource for program “personalities”. Keep up the good vibes!

I watch you because it motivates me to study, and to also stay positive because Im in nursing school and its hard.
