Guys American Express is changing their cards to reflect a new way of doing business but that doesn't mean it's all bad. Here's another take on the changes to the Hilton Honors Business Card and how to take advantage of the changes even if you dont plan on keeping the card.

This was one of my everyday business cards. In regular business spend i spent enough to get the 2nd free night. The 5x cap on spending is insult to injury.

I hear where you're coming from Luke, but for me, spending targets do help - if they're reasonable, so that $40k Diamond status doesn't count. 5X Hilton is nice, but I'd rather put that spend on another card (or another welcome offer). This card made the Surpass much more enticing.

If you have $15k - $60k a year spend then you were probably better off not using this card and chasing SUBs before these changes and definitely not after the changes. You can buy Hilton Points at $0.50 each and then stack a 5th night free. I personally like the changes and my business spend will benefit from it. 5x flat to $100k will be nice for me. I don’t have to think about multipliers, optimizing, or getting a SUB. 500k Hilton Points for $100k spend.

@@krs1905 Definitely Keith! This was the card I used to put additional spend on if I wasn't going to chase a welcome offer. As I try to keep my card applications down because of 5/24 (yes, I know Chase 5/24 is not a good thing 🤣), this card used to be a great outlet for that spend when a welcome offer wasn't involved. If I put all my spend on one card, I could probably maximize the 5X multiplier, but I'd rather spread it out over welcome offers and the such for my situation!

I got the same SUB, with the FNC, and did the $15k too. Doubtful the card was sticking around for me anyway, so I will take my "free" $150, and cancel when AF is due. Thanks for the info!!!

When I had the Hilton Business I did spend $15k on it for the certificate but, I had to cancel it to get the Hilton Surpass. The point with the BBP is that when there’s a 30% transfer bonus you get 5.2 Hilton points for $0. I currently hold every personal Hilton card and like the changes done to those, not a fan of the Hilton biz changes. Great video brother! Thanks for the information.

Great points Luke, ultimately it's still a negative effective annual fee card if you can fully and organically utilize the quarterly Hilton credits. Though like you, my wife was already going to cancel the card after year 1, so we'll be sure to liquidate those credits before then.

I feel like the biggest complainers were those that had this in the sock drawer for PP. Hilton cards across the board have improved. Surpass and Business cards are now keepers with the Hilton credits. And people always overlook the F&B credit from Gold status as if status is only good enough for upgrades

Now, while I agree 5x is pretty good, the blue business plus is just Superior, like you mentioned that equals 4 Hilton points right off the bat. But I feel like at least once a year there is a transfer bonus to Hilton, for at least 30%. Making it 5.2x, not to mention you get two points that you can choose what to do with. Plus if you really like Hilton you really should have the aspire card, and that just makes this card pretty much absolutely useless.

I don't mess with this card. As a hilton loyalist, I have 2 Aspire like you used to. If anything, this makes me wanna get 3rd Aspire! And I agree. I wouldn't put 15K on this card. But for Business folks, Spending 15k or 30k isn't that hard. I used to own an upscale Doughnut shop and 30K was about what I spent in a month for supplies alone.

I agree that this would have been more palatable at $150. Or $195 with the 15k spend for a FNC. This change nerfed the card pretty hard for most.

I think we're seeing the consequence of youtube content creators talking about these subjects, gaining viewers who then act upon their advice like getting cards, signup bonuses, getting max value for points and it started to become more expensive for the credit card companies and their partners and they're trying to weed out the bonus hunters and churners. I don't blame them for it. We're just going to have to get more creative or actually keep and use cards that make sense and not hold on to a bunch of other ones.

I've been saying a similar thing for years now. The amount of people that complain about cards that they shouldn't have applied for in the first place and that advocate about closing cards that never really matched their lifestyle tells it all. And that desire to get cards that don't really don't fit people comes a lot from social media creators. Lots of outrage about fees from Platinum Card holders who don't travel anywhere.

I think you’re overestimating the impact here. Banks actively advertise these bonuses and cards with bloggers. If it wasn’t a net positive for them, they wouldn’t do it. All these changes instead seem like trying to move people towards spending in ways that make Hilton, Delta, Amex, etc more money. Hilton makes more money when you book direct and spend on their cards, so the credit and higher multipliers are passing on any kickback they’d give to the OTA to the user instead. Overall, if you’re willing to commit more business to Hilton, you’ll be rewarded

Nice video Luke. $195 AF and no FNC after $15K spend - will buy Hilton $50 GC for 1st and 2nd quarter to take advantage of quarterly credits and then once AF hits card in May, will cancel card. Aspire card is better for long game.

Totally off topic but you inspired me to get membership with and pick up the Redstone Signature. Great card for my P2 who is less than enthusiastic about credit cards. My question - how long before it gets nerfed and/or do you think that they will grandfather people in?

I was also one who regularly spent the 60k for 2 free nights. Luckily can still get one more at 60k before the end of June. Hopefully a change to the Hyatt business card will come along and be a good hotel card to put spend on.

my renewal just hit in December. So will keep it for awhile. the removal of the FNC definitely sucks, but this card also has a $10k limit for me so that makes it tempting to keep for awhile. Part that sucks most for me is that I had like $6k in spend toward a FNC and no way I will hit the $15k by June so kind of wasted spend.

If Delta offered 2.5% with easy credits, loyalists would be doing backflips. It is all about perspective, and Hilton has spoiled us. I got this card for shipping after the Biz Gold cut the multiplier, a trend apparently. My issue is, a 2nd Aspire card, even maxing $100k spend at 3x, would be more lucrative than this card.

Got this card in Jan, I still think its a good card considering the new changes. Got the new one coming in. Personally imo these changes are to get rid of those just for churning. I put business expenses on this card and thats what it is intended for. I believe eventually things can get worse if this churing keeps getting outta hand.

Yes. Took this card from a 4.5% plus card to a 2.5% Hilton only card with coupons. The loss of the FNC is very significant for those of us doing the math.

Hey Luke, wondering your opinion on IHG vs Hilton, me and my girlfriend are a younger couple that like to take a couple weekend trips a year, and wanting to take a big all inclusive trip at Cancun (couple years down line), both hotel chains have said resorts, along with hotels where we take are weekend trips, seems Hilton is easier to get the points and take less points a night then the IHG and im pre approved for hiltons credit card, but want a opinion on this. Wanting to stay no annual fee, maybe upgrade in future

Yeah I think the two programs are both great for what you want to do. Either way you can’t go wrong. I think ihg is better on the budget side while Hilton will have better options on the higher end.

I don't like the changes to this card. The elimination of the FNC is a bummer, and the $60 credits is only useful if you are loyal to Hilton. I know you can buy the gift card, but same those are to use in Hilton properties. The main reason I don't like Hilton is that the minimum points for a budget stay is at least 40,000 points. I never seen a night for less than 40k points per night, and the 5th night is useful if you spend one in hotel, and I never stay in a place more than 4 nights I like to move around places when I'm traveling. The 5X only is good if you are a Big Hilton Loyalist. someone that stay more than 3 times in Hilton properties, not the regular people.

If you have a surpass or aspire this card is a 1 year and cancel card to me. If you dont have those cards this is a phenomenal keeper card. No 5/24 slot and hilton gold? Money.
