This video goes over the different ways to crochet the basic single crochet stitch! You may not even realise that you are doing a different version of the single crochet!
I will show you the yarn over vs yarn under and then the two combinations. Hopefully you are able to take this and use it for your next amigurumi project to get the look you are going for!
Good luck!

Just started two months ago and learned yarn over first, then switched to yarn under about 1 month ago and thought I was doing it wrong. This is because I did yarn under, yarn under and most of the tutorials I see for yarn under show yarn under first and yarn over for the second. Thanks for posting this video so I know that everything is going to work out with the yarn under, yarn under way.

Thanks for such a detailed tutorial. I love making little critters for my grandkids. I've only just started making amigurumi even though I've been crocheting for 40+ years so all the tips and tricks I can find are greatly appreciated. I'm self taught for the most part with getting started having been taught to me by my grandma when I was around 7 or 8 so unfortunately I never really learned to read written patterns so all the video tutorials here on KZbin is where I get ideas and instructions. I just found you and am now a new subscriber. Again thanks for what you do for all those who love to crochet and those just starting out. God bless 🕊️💛🕯️🙏

Thanks for this! One video into learning how to do amigurumi and I’m already having to fix my basic crochet skills- I’ve just been going for it, whatever way of pulling the yarn through worked! I’ll definitely strive for a YU YO rhythm when doing amigurumi, and I’ll also pay attention to yarning under/over CONSISTENTLY when doing other projects 😅

Working on one of my first projects that isn't a blanket or clothes, and wasn't sure how to stop the cotton from popping out. I crochet tight enough that I have multiple bandaids on after I work a little while, and use such a small hook that it's hard to get into the stitches, haha .. This video was exactly what I was looking for. :] I'm fully self taught, so it's always nifty to see how much you can learn online with a quick search ! Thanks for making this.

Thanks so much for doing this tutorial and really showing the difference between the stitches. Do the other stitches outside the traditional make the piece curl more than the traditional? Love your videos - made the Angy Coffee and really enjoyed the pattern! A request - I have a hard time with hearing and the background music is really distracting. It makes your excellent directions and observations hard for me to hear. Is there a way to turn down the background music, or just not have it at all?

I usually crochet with plush yarn so maybe this takes into account. I will say that this is up to the person doing it. I crochet very tight. I use a bigger hook than patterns recommend most of the time and still crochet so tight there is a very noticeable size difference. I just tried doing one of the yarn under patterns and failed miserably 😅. I could feel that the stitch was horribly tight and I could not finesse the hook through even with force. No clue how to not make it so tight or if it just means I should stick with the yarn over method.

This explained so well what I’ve been wondering for so long! Naturally I have always used yarn under yarn under but recently realized the “right way” is over, over. Do your projects need to be flipped inside out when you use the under under technique?
@FalseBubbles
@FalseBubbles 3 жыл бұрын
Aweee thanks so much! I'm so glad you found it helpful! There is no effect on the right vs. wrong side of the piece! Normally my stuff curves inwards and I have to invert it to the "right side" early on in the project, but using the yarn under vs. yarn over won't change which side is the "right" or "wrong" side

This makes so much sense to me now coz a lot of ppl say that they don't prefer "yarn under" bcoz it uses so much more yarn than "yarn over." And some happen to prefer the "under" method bcoz it makes the stitches look neater & more aligned but I guess wutever rows their both. 😆😆 I am quite curious since I tried doing yarn-under for a sample ball head, how do u decrease using yarn-under? Bcoz when I tried the invisible decrease the same method of yarnunder, it looked weird to see a diff stitch in my ball 😂😅 plsss help ahahhaag

Hi there! I am using a 3.0mm hook with impeccable yarn from loops and threads. This yarn is acrylic and worsted weight but I find it a little bit on the thicker and stiffer side of worsted. I tend to use this yarn for tutorials because it really clearly shows the stitches, but for amigurumi I choose a something a little bit softer!
