I pourchased this head about 2 months ago and I love it. Watched this video to get more information on the amp. It took some getting used to, but you can dial up any tone. The clean channel is the cleanest I have heard on any amp.

Totally agree! It's not in any of my demo's but def experiment with the push on channel 1. Such a great overdrive sound, especially paired with the dual function mid knob. These so many quirks and features (ha Doug) to explore with Mesa stuff. Thanks for watching, rock on!

Good review. I've had one for a while. EQ is a problem but I put EQ in the loop and solved that issue. A Boss EQ worked great. I leverage the sliders for a lead boost with a bit of a mid bump. Works great!

That's a great call, I hadn't thought of trying out something like that!

Got a JP2C and it's the first amp where I felt like the manual was really needed, but once you get it dialed it's sweet.

I have owned this amp since the year it came out (I believe) 2014 And I have found use the pre amp knobs for clean w the sliders all ways off and the dirty set it up on w foot switch and dial sliders in. Also can get a eq pedal in loop

@@aminorerror Thanks. You do great work! I am actually considering getting one, sweetwater selling them off for 1k

That's one solid deal, you def can't go wrong at that price!

Just bought this. For the price I have no problem spending hours tweaking. It took me days to setup my H&K GM36. I don't see that as a negative. Most players want to sit in front of their new shiny amps for hours anyway! lol

Hi from Boston Berkelee guy great, best honest review ,, lots of good info here ,I’ve been thinking about grabbing one of these ,and my question is can you go from rhythm to lead with a foot switch without having to tweak the EQ ? Sorry I’m already confused and zi haven’t Weber bought one yet lol subsribed !

It depends on the kind of tones you're dialing in, it'll take some experimentation. Had a comment below that it's possible to put an EQ pedal in the FX loop and get the second EQ control that way. That wasn't something I had thought of when I made the video and def a possible easy work around (as long as you don't need other stuff in the loop.) This is a great amp though and it's got all the tones in there that you could need. Just a matter of figuring out your own workflow. Thanks for the sub, are you currently going to Berklee?

great video and very informative! i'm interested in this amp mainly for recording. specifically using the DI out into an apollo twin. do you think this would be a good amp for that? sure, i'd like to run it through a 2x12 cab for gigs in smaller rooms but that wouldn't be its main function.
@aminorerror2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words! Yea I think you should get nice results if you're planning on using the DI out into the Apollo and then use whatever digital cab sim you like. I never tested the cab clone output but from some reviews I've seen mixed reviews on it. If you're planning on using a different cab sim 100% it'll work great. Good luck!

Good review Rob! I never considered the implications of why the one graphic EQ could make it challenging to dial in. I know I spent a lot of time just in the NDSP Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ plugin dialing in the Metallica tone for Master of Puppets for our lessons, so I guess it makes sense that the real amp would have its challenges. Now that Petrucci amp...that looks like fun! I just hope that Gibson doesn't destroy the legacy of Mesa Boogie - that would be a tragedy.

Thanks for checking out the new review Dan! The graphic EQ really is crazy powerful but there's def a learning curve with it. I've heard mixed issues when Gibson bought out Boogie initially but haven't heard any other stuff lately so hopefully the QC standards are back up to what we've all known and expected all these years. Good luck on Master o' Puppets this week, see you Sunday!

I have loved and owed a hand full of mark series amps. The 4, jpc+, 90watt, dc5, express. Luckily, i bought them way before the pricing you see now. I got an axf and sold all of them except the DC5. I have been looking for a smaller 20-watt amps, and i bought a Peavey invective 20. The issue i had was the power tubes breaking up at low volume, mixing the pre amp distortion with the power amp distortion, and creating a not so pleasant sound. Other than the MT15, i have been turned off by the small amps because of that issue. Maybe it was just a peavey issue. I never tried a 20-watt again. Does this one do the same? Great run down of the amp, very detailed.
@aminorerror2 ай бұрын
I didn't have the issues you're describing because I used it with a load box to keep the amp in its 'power band' but I imagine it would do the same thing. Any tube amp needs to cranked up to get the most of it, and that's the missing puzzle piece for you. Get a decent load box and you'll get the tones you want from em. Rock on!

I would tell some people to just get a separate eq for one of the channels. Might help them till they figure it out.

That's a good call, I hadn't thought about it at the time! In the end, the lack of flexibility with the Torpedo load box and cab sim I was using wasn't cutting it for what I do, so I'm glad I switched to a Quad Cortex (especially that the plugins are finally *kinda* out lol).
