Story 1: Considering how awful that mother was, im surprised they even talked to her, much less allowed her to live with them. The OP and everyone else around should've been way more firm and strict with the mother here about all the rules and conditions, because it was pretty obvious early on that the mom was going to just take advantage of everybody. She just keeps taking and taking, some just keep giving to her. Good thing they are evicting here and looks like they are doing it the legal and proper way. Hopefully they have a bailiff or police there on the final day because you can almost be sure that the mom is going to try something. Story 2: OP is not a jerk. If this house is a pre-marital asset, then it is 100% the decision of the OP, not the wife. I can somewhat see why the wife would be a little upset, but this is still up to the OP. Now, if the house was joint and co-owned, then the OP would be the jerk here. Story 3: Wait... this women DOESNT live there, and yet shes running around like she owns the place? Screw that noise... do whatever you can do get her kicked out and banned from that apartment. She should absolutely have zero say about what goes on at that place and the whole thing with the wood in paint thinner and the doors/windows would've been deal breakers for me. I would do everything i could to get her away from that place... all she's doing is tresspassing. Story 4: OP is not a jerk here. Something tells me that she's being distant here is because she's either too entangled in her social media pages, or she's got someone else on the side and trying to keep it on the down-low. Story 2 i think your completely wrong and the wife is the jerk. She agreed as a term of their relationship for their marriage all financial assests are to be kept separate. She does not getbto turn it around in a whim and claim she should be involved in his financial decisions. Her being op's wife was made an irrelevant point by HER when she agreed to keep everything separate. This would be the case if he wanted to be let in on her financial decision. No he dosent get a say so and neither does she.

This isn't even something that can be argued. She is fully aware his financial decision are his to make whenever however he wants as this is what BOTH of them agreed on. She was also aware the house wasn't hers and was his financial asset to do with as he pleases, so the only reason I can come up with as to why she even expected him to ask is just entitlement.
