In the second story, those customers were scamming them. They slipped the debit card and made sure the cameras saw it. That card was not active when they walked in or it was stolen. I can't believe nobody saw that.

Yup. A check that high? Their card is "missing" and they're not answering the call after it's found? Total scam. The manager should be reporting the customers to the police.

How are john and the owner at fault for the customers idiocy? If they slipped the card into his apron litterly anyone could have the card and not know. Even if John told them he was leaving the same situation would have occurred.

*Story 1:* Thankfully I never worked for a retail company. There's no way I would've tolerated anyone ripping a purchase from someone else.
@QuickManEXE Жыл бұрын
Story 1: Always remember 4 words here: "Right to refuse service!". The moment this old fart got belligerent like that, i would've stopped helping them and called security or the police. Good thing the supervisor was on the OPs side and flipped off the people on the way out. OP did absolutely nothing wrong here. Story 2: I think both people here need to chill out. The OP doesn't seem very supportive overall here, and the bf doesnt seem to want to include the OP in things here. I think both of them really need to have some serious conversations, or this relationship isnt really going to work. Story 3: Okay, if Jane has to deal with any serious grief over this, i hope she sues John and the owner for everything they have. The cameras showed the customer trying to slip the card to John and tip on the side, and then want to leave without playing... something tells that this whole thing was planned out beforehand. John should be suspended or fired for all this, and seems like he's done crap before. Story 4: Nothing worse then misogynistic woman. The OP's mom sounds like one of those 'old-soul' women that just blindly accepted that a man's place was in the workforce and a woman's place was in the kitchen/household and can't accept that a woman can work along with her husband. If the OP's mom is wanting to visit, some serious boundaries are needed, and i would probably not allow her to stay at their home, put her in a motel or something. Story 5: The "struggling single-mother" lines are the most used scams in the book today. This woman was using you right from the very start. Stuff like this is why many people don't like to help out people anymore....too many jerks. OP isn't a jerk, but he sure is a dumbass.
@Durakken Жыл бұрын
Story 3: So fun fact... putting tips together and splitting them up evenly is likely illegal where OP works as it is in most states and the owner can be sued massively... And likewise, Jane can sue her boss if anything comes of this, whether she is forced to pay for something that isn't her fault or she gets fired...

The Walmart story: I literally had this exact same thing happen to me. The same count and everything, I ended up buying her stuff and realized I was left short what I needed to get what I needed for my own family. Ended up going back through the store putting stuff back on the shelf fighting back tears. I felt terrible for being a good person, wife comforted me. Happy ending though, later the next week I'm back at said Walmart and the same lady walks up to me. She's super grateful and even tries to give me them back. I turned it down and felt so much better about the whole thing.

The couple at the pharmacy trying to find a laptop. I don’t condone that behavior and I’m not defending them but I have to say sometimes you do have to ask for another employee and I’m not saying that was the case in this scenario, but I’m just saying that is the case sometimes a few years ago I went to a Walmart to buy a DVD I really want it. It was the day that DVD came out and I got this guy and he’s like oh we don’t have that DVD in stock. am I asked is he sure any girls? Yes I saw the last copy yesterday so I’m not going to go check in so someone heard us arguing they try to give me a copy of the DVD I was not looking for before anyone says anything it was a TV show he was trying to send me a copy of a season. I already had his manager comes up to see what’s going on and I told the manager two minutes later the manager comes from the back because they locked the DVDs section past a certain time. So he comes from the locked up DVDs and brings me to copy a minute later, so sometimes yes, as you can see in my story, there are cases you have to ask another employee

I'm glad that the first story has his coworker and manager backed him up. It sucks working alone at the front of a pharmacy as a teenager working under minimum wage. Just about almost every customer whines that they could get things cheaper from Walmart. I'm just like, well, I'm not in charge of that. And I just want to snap back at them then, why the hell are they not going to Walmart instead for the same damn drinks/products if we are so expensive? We're just a small pharmacy, what do they expect?

I mean the first story is kind of idiotic... Why would you not have details that make a product on display, who cares about the screen if that thing runs like garbage? Yes company policy is not the cashier's fault and the customers could be kind to stuff, but company could learn what they sell and what's important about that...

1st story: Interesting how there's no blame placed on the company for not having all the info on the box. Anyways, OP did their best with what they had: not having the use of their cellphone is wack, especially if an item does not show all the pertinent info. He didn't come off as rude, just increasingly nervous with each passing word from the customer. We have no idea if everyone else in the store was busy/ on break/ lunch... Lastly, if at any point a customer threatens an employee, in most cases, they lose any ability to call themselves NTA. 2nd: I get why people may say that she has no control over here bf, but the thing is that a relationship is a two-way street: if he never talks about himself, and shuts down any attempts she makes to further the relationship, that's on him. 3rd: What the table did seems like a scam: they slip the card into someone else's pocket, then say the restaurant lost it and refuse to pay. That being said, John should not have walked away from that scot-free. Even if he's been there the longest. Jane has no blame in this case: bringing out the check earlier would have done nothing of value since the couple could claim that they had him ring them up. 4th: This one's easy! He needs to tell his mom-ster that things have changed, and the old way of having the man of the house as the sole breadwinner no longer works as well, unless he wants to work 2 full time jobs. He also needs to say "keep doing this and I may decide that you coming over is no longer worth my time".

2nd Story: OP simply isn't a priority to their partner, that's why he doesn't bother to talk to her about anything going on in his life nor let her know what his plans may be or are. He may have checked out of the relationship, or perhaps he simply doesn't care about her enough to be considerate of her. 4th Story: I wouldn't allow anyone who actively chooses to be cruel to my partner anywhere near my home or near myself or my partner. OP still allowing his mother to stay and forcing his wife to be uncomfortable in her own home to appease his mother is deeply troubling, he's not showing his wife that she can rely on him in the slightest.

The first story... 40 years ago, I came back from lunch, was putting my company smock top back on. Thru the door I could hear my coworker telling this person company policy on something that is a hard core rule with that company. They repeated themselves several times. The customer wanted to see a manager... Managers are at a meeting, 5 miles away. (This was at a theme park company, everything is spread out.) So I did something that could have gotten me in trouble. I took my smock top off, put my name tag on my regular clothes, walked out, and said “Is there anything I can help you with?” I gave a look to my coworker, and she understood and didn't blow my cover. I listened, sympathized, and repeated company policy. The guy accepted my answer, quit complaining, and paid for the merchandise and left. My coworker looked at me and said WTH? They just needed someone of authority to tell them the same thing before they would believe it. 🤷♀️ So I gave them what they wanted. She laughed so hard... I put my smock back on, and told her to go put some water on her face to calm down. We didn't end up getting in trouble for that, and the customer didn't come back and catch me in my smock. 🤣 Lucky me. 👵☮️🖖
