My absolute favorite period in Amon Amarth's history is Fate of Norns - Twilight of the Thunder God. Those albums just really did it for me, and I still listen to them regularly. I discovered them in 2009, I think, and they've been my favorite band ever since, in that no other band has sound and lyrics resonate so well with me. That being said, while I'm obviously sad that they are moving away from what I personally see as their best work, more than anything I'm just happy that they are creating the stuff they want to make. That's the most important thing. Although I might not listen to Deceiver of the Gods and onward very often, I hope they keep doing whatever inspires them. Their recent single Put Your Back Into The Oar is absolutely one of my all-time favorite songs of theirs and just such a throwback to earlier albums. The remake of Masters of War also landed real nice on my playlist! Congratulations on the new release, Amon Amarth!!! By the way, my favorite song from this album is definitely Odin Owns You All! Edit: My new favorite from this album is now Heidrun. I've fallen for it with the new video release.

Perfectly written; Versus the World to Twilight of the Thunder God is AA peak era; everything else has been very solid....i love how the band has evolved and love how there is different eras within there catalog...
@ruin3r2 жыл бұрын
Look, they took something like Viking metal and made about 5 albums more than you should ever be able to get out of that genre thematically, I give them a break in that regard, it's pretty limiting style. In terms of the music they want to make, if I had to guess i'd say the members must just be dying to make a random avant garde/prog album instead of this so they can flex some different musical muscles.
@elvisman20002 жыл бұрын
I find it hard to believe that they make such a great song, with great mixing (after the catastrophe of a mix that was Berserker), which is Put Your Back Into The Oar, and then release this album with really buried lead guitars. Berserker and this album are in reality trash (Berserker is worse), but one thing is certain, they sold out completely. Jomvsiking was imo 9/10, but this is so far away even from Jomsviking, let alone the golden period from Versus the World to Twilight of the Thunder God.

I resonate the comments about the uniqueness of the sound of Amon Amarth. I will add that they have the perfect balance of melody that is honestly beautiful in my opinion, not a word I typically hear associated with death metal. But in my humble opinion, the perfectly pitched vocals and purity of the tunes from the strings and percussion are a blend that make for a truly beautiful sound. A sound that motivates before a long workday or after. Love it! Amon Amarth fails at disappointment.

Why did they spell Odin with an "e"
@johnathanfoster49932 жыл бұрын
@@wolfserker3179 Odin's name is written in many different ways due to the Germanic roots of Norse Mythology, Oden was another common way of writing Odin's name a long time ago and even in Old English it was written as Woden for a time, among other instances of "-oden" showing up in the other variations very frequently. In regards to the new album, I really like it personally as I think it offers an interesting combination of songs that appeal to the people who might prefer their "safer" albums in Jomsviking and Berserker, those who like Deceiver and prior albums but nothing after and those who still much prefer the oldschool albums from the late 90s and early 2000s such as Crusher and Norns. As someone who prefers the classics but still quite enjoys every other album (except for most of Jomsviking, I liked a couple songs but even those were relatively lackluster compared to their previous albums) that might be just a unique thing I find myself, but I'm actually quite excited at the prospect it presents that they might be potentially willing to do an album that leans more towards the classics. Also worth pointing out that most people really hate when you try to appease multiple clashing demographics at once like that, as it usually ends up feeling as if the part they like in particular suffered for the sake of another person's tastes. Great Heathen Army and Oden Owns You All are pretty close to sounding like modern Crusher tracks which is impressive to me, go listen to their Masters of War anniversary re-recording after either of them and you can really hear the similarities, I didn't really hate what they were doing but I think a modern album entirely in that style would probably pretty easily end up as another masterpiece on par with those older albums.

Johan Hegg: This story comes from a seminar on ancient storytelling that I attended with my wife. The serpent’s trail is like a labyrinth-the first part of a journey through the realm of death into hell. The second part is when you go back up, and that’s the eagle’s trail. When you come back out, you become the dragon because the serpent and eagle have combined. But it’s really about an internal journey, the psychological approach to any issues you face in your life. You travel to the core of the problem, where you face your demons, and then you have to make your way back out.

Because most reviewers of metal today are extreme metal purists/elitists and when a known melodeath band like Amon Amarth moves into more "radio friendly" territory, they immediately feel betrayed and call bullshit on the entire album. Basically to them, easily accessible/catchy = not true metal and therefore bad. It's the same crowd that shits on Sabaton because they're popular. Don't pay them any mind.

Today I began working on my thesis. What better call to Oden than listening to albums of Amon Amarth and especially this one that I hadn't taken the time to.

I personally cant get enough of Heidrun and Find a Way or Make One. This whole album is badass and there are some songs that give some older album vibes. Please keep shredding all you guys and keep making albums I will gladly support and listen to all your kickass jams!!! I bought the Great Heathen Army box set and its pretty badass. You get a badass Amon Amarth bottle topper for your wine or bourbon bottles, CD, Poster, puzzle and some cool trading cards to recruit some of your fellow viking bretheren (viking refering to any badass mofo you might know) to the great heathen army!!! I highly recommend!!! Oh and the drinking horn is a great addition to all of this!

I listened to 4 albums that I've bought a while back when Google Play music existed then finally decided to check maybe there are new songs from Amon Amarth. More than 2 new albums, a surprise to be sure but a welcome one :)
